  • Good deal on the i5 7640X - the i3 isn't as competitively priced.

    • I posted that in his other thread..

Good deal on the i5 7640X

I can't think of a scenario where it makes sense to buy it though.

4 cores . No hyper threading. Stuck on the expensive platform.

This chip is a joke tbh.

  • Until u have to pay $300 for a x299 mb….

  • The normal price for the i3 is $158 at MSY. So this is a reduced shipping deal?

    • Nope, my mistake mate - shipping costs an extra $12 - so I replaced it with deal at Mwave which is $165 (free shipping)

  • nice price - need good deals on MB + rams now

    • +5

Can't help with the MB, but here are some cheap rams on Gumtree

      • @thebargainhunter is that a good price for a ram based on your experience as a hunter?

  • I guess a bit OT, but who comes up with the names for these things? DGMW they’re cool, but I wonder if someone’s job is to just think up random names?

Many of them are based on geographical features: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_codenames

Kaby Lake = "Kaby Lake is the shortened name for Kabinakagami Lake, a large lake approximately 70 miles north of Wawa, Ontario."

I suspect ones like Coffee Lake are named because it's precedessors had lake in it and the guy who had to come up with the name needed a coffee.

      • That makes sense, the geographical features side of it. I imagine them just getting tired of having to think of new names and just being like yeah meh just use coffee, as you say, pretty funny considering how massive intel is.

        Thanks for the reply :)

  • The i3-8100 is a great bang for the buck CPU. Pity Intel don't have any bang for the buck motherboards available. Idiots.

    • 5 weeks away apparently

      • Has anyone read a reasonable explanation as to why the B/H series weren't available from day 1? I just cant work it out.
