New customers only. Nice to see loyalty being rewarded.

Telco companies care more about new customers, existing customers do not get much loyalty discounts.

Same could be said about banks. "Introductory rate…", "50,000 Bonus Points…"

    • Managed to sign upto this plan whilst currently being on an Optus post-paid BYO Sim plan (though out of contract).

My order has been processed with the help of the online chat peeps, should be rolled over within 24hrs to the 20gb plan.

      • Good work. After the 12 months do you pay extra (ie the discount taken away)?

        • Didn't read anything about a discount being taken away, but after 24mths the bonus data (5gb) will be removed.

    • Quick update - my plan has been updated from my old plan with 10.5gb (data share is on for the extra .5) and somehow I've now got 25.5gb :)

      Thanks Optus!

Probably should have read all the nitty gritty before i liked this lol…Looks like Optus Sport, Nat Geo, & Music Streaming are data free, but they have excluded Video Streaming from this offer (Netflix, ABC, ABC Kids, Stan etc). If you sign up, you should probably confirm that prior to signing up because the banner isn't very clear on inclusions, and Netflix and Stan are mighty handy on lunch breaks at work ;).

    • Yep, they have never had video streaming included on sim only plans except for nat geo and sport.

        • Lol I tried that deal, after 5 separate chats and 2 calls I could not get it honored. Reading most of the comments shows this too.

@OnlinePred: Hmm going on the Optus SIM only page right now, the $30 12m option says it includes mobile TV streaming though. Isn't that Netflix/Stan etc?

          @unco: Nope :-(

They really are tricking a lot of people with this. In the fine print: "Video & non-music content incur data charges. Fair Go Policy Applies."

        • @OnlinePred: Ah very tricky, that would've caught me out! Cheers for the explanation.

        • +1

@unco: the link you originally sent with 30/15gb does include unmetered video streaming ends today. The 40/20gb doesn't… Not sure where @onlinePred is getting his info from

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/360920

        • @OnlinePred: probably not honoured because you are asking for it to be included on the $40/20gb deal not the $30/15gb deal

        • @OnlinePred: Heys can't find where it says this in the fine print? I'm having a look in the Nitty Gritty section.

        • @akaStanHugh: on the Optus site at the top of sin only plans section

        • @OnlinePred:

Oh right yeah it does say it there. I was looking at the promo page however in the link from OP and it seems like this one includes data free streaming for Mobile TV streaming.

      • Not true. I'm on the byo 40 and I have video streaming

    • umm its included in selected mobile TV streaming. if you look at the sim plans, it is written like that as well. you can expand it here but you cant in this deal page but its still the same, Netflix is data free.

  • Looking for sim only data plan long expiry. Ideas?

    • +1

Occasionally we see Vodafone 180 day expiry sims with 18ishGB of data. Might want to look around for some of those.

That is for the mobile TV streaming.

Bonus data only temporary as well.

    • They were doing 25% off the $40 plan on live chat last week if anyone's looking for it. This mustve been before the 5gb bonus though, so 15gb for $30.

      • That's still on as well, but student discount can't be applied :(

Tossing up between $36 for 20gb vs $30 for 15gb or $32 for 18gb on Virgin.

  • Optus or Vodafone?
Just got a new job and no longer having company phone? I will need to find something soon.

    • Id go Optus personally. Vodafone have apparently improved but I still wouldn't consider them myself

      • +1

For me, where I have been going around in Sydney + suburbs, Voda had a better network coverage than Optus. Strange, but true.

  • Blah, seems like the Coles $180/365 SIM is still the best on offer, and it is only so-so. Here we are in 2018 and SIM card/phone offers are still hot trash in Australia.

  • I was talking to an Optus rep. yesterday and said is you have an education email address there is also a 10% discount on this deal.

  • Still looking for something that beats 23GB Extra Large 365 Day Plan $315.10(kogan.com) = $26.26 per month for 23G/mth

  • You'd probably be better off getting the $59 plan with an s8 and sell the phone tbh

    • Is that deal still running?

      • it is until the 26th, if you have a look and take this plan as the same price as the other deal you're essentially looking at the s8 "cost" for $456, you can sell a brand new s8 for more than that.

        ie. ($59 x 24) - ($40 x 24) = $456

I'm aware that this deal is 12 months only but for the purpose of comparing the two I worked it out over 24 months.

  • This plan is only $36 for 20GB for students! https://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub
I called Telstra (who I've been with for >2 years) and asked if there's anything they could offer that comes close. He offered me a $39 plan with $500 calls and 2GB data
    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • That's a good joke, if Telstra keeps this up they could lose their dominance. Optus is powering ahead majorly with the tower roll outs.

      • Hopefully the Optus towers are better than the one we got or Telstra will have NOTHING to worry about.

The new tower is closer but the phone reception has dropped at our place….even when there is 2 bars or the rare 3 bars (never get 4 bars or 4G), its still hard to load a Web page 😡

        • Funny thing Telstra at my work in regional area is doing worse than my Optus. I still have less than 2 months to go before contract finishes. Then I’ll churn over to Optus with my existing humongous iPad 100gb data plan, lol!

  • Hi, I am currently with optus and they will not honour this deal for me, they say new numbers only. Do you think if i got a $7 kogan month, I would be able to transfer back to optus?
Also, the optus person i was talking to said unmetered Netflix was included in this deal.

    • You could try porting to a Telstra $2 sim and port back in to Optus as a new customer.

      https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/telstra-$2-data-starter-kit

  • Signed up for this yesterday, porting from Telstra. Still waiting for confirmation from Optus.

  • BONUS 5GB DATA (APPLIES FOR 24 MONTHS)

but the plan is 12 months only, not sure if this extends the sim plan to 24 months automatically or not?
