    Beware of Grays!

I received a refurbished laptop from them. Works OK, but to upgrade hard disk or ram need to open a screw at the back. That screw has a sticker on it saying Warranty void if removed!!

    • +1

that is normal i think. no one will let you upgrade without that sticker. even desktop. or fridge. or tv, or car.

    • I don't understand the warning.

    • +1

Well yes, what did you expect?

Warranty is voided as soon as you replace anything with a new or refurb laptop.

      • I don't understand you.
You think it is OK to buy a computer and not be allowed to replace a slow hard disk with an SSD?

        • You certainly can do upgrade as it's yours, but if it's not the exact same item how can you expect still keep warranty.

        • Who said you weren't allowed?
You take the risk of voiding the warranty when you modify anything. The warranty covers the product you buy in the condition you bought it in, not whatever you change it to.

If you are that worried about the warranty either buy something with an SSD or wait for the warranty to be up.

        • @flyingmouse:
I would not expect the warranty to apply to my new SSD. But if something else goes wrong with the computer, and I put back the original hard disk, and send it for repair, the Grays sticker warning says that the warranty is void because I removed their sticker!

        • -1

@check: Because you cannot justify the problem didn't cause by the component you put in or maybe you touched something while changing. It wouldn't be fair for seller to cover the potential risk.
I did change HDD on my 2 laptops at the day I bought them, I knew the risk but I still did it.

  • 13.9" screen.

Is there a reason they decided to make such an unusual screen size? What aspect ratio is used?

    • its a standard 16:9 1920x1080 screen, just that theyve made it as big as possible to fit the upper three bezels of the display (shame it has such a big bottom bezel, though).

      • If it's just a standard 16:9 1920x1080 display, would it have been that hard to make a 14" screen and have 0.1" less bezel or make the frame 0.1" bigger?
Three of the bezels are nice, but I just am a bit baffled by the sizing choice.

  • Are these screens the one you can see from all angles?

  • Note "Warranty is managed by GraysOnline."

    • Buys product from GraysOnline. Warranty managed by GraysOnline. Coincidence? It's a refurb!

here's a supremely odd windows mobile device from gray's but it's good value as you get the desk dock and laptop dock

edit: maybe it's a misnomer to say good value; looking at at the lap dock reviews it's a weird niche device (since it can't do anything without the phone hooked up (miracast wifi or usb c i think) to it) maybe more suited for corporate / enterprise.

  • Is this one any good, how old is it?
Looking for something for everyday use.
    Thanks for any input.

based on the hardware, I would say it won't be able to do much except basic web surfing or word processing which is similar to what a tablet can do.
