    Would be nice to find some Skagen deals. To my taste, all these Wengers are ugly, and I can understand why their business basically failed. What's even more interesting is that Apple outsold all Swiss watchmakers combined last quarter. More fire sales coming our way.

        Skagen is Fossil garbage (disclaimer, I have a few Fossil watches) and they're also losing heaps of money.

        Wenger and Victorinox are sadly, the bottom feeder Swiss brands that sell thru Walmart so you will always see them being sold cheap on Amazon once they cant be sold in the shops.

        Be that as it may, they sell so many knives and camping gear they can afford to break even on these watches.

        To be honest most of them Wenger Victorinox watches arent to my taste but most of us in the professional watch club have really advanced tastes sadly.

        I am really not sure how could you possibly know. The ones I own are all designed in Denmark and manufactured in Japan. The other thing is that I have no problems with items manufactured in China either. Chinese are quite advanced and have become leaders in manufacturing in so many domains. Traditional wrist watches are not exactly high tech anymore.

          The movements are Japanese. The watches are assembled in China. That applies to all watches made by/for Fossil who own Skagen.

    Thanks PJC for such an impressive post! Just wondering if I use an Australian AMEX card, should I pay in USD or AUD on Amazon US?

    Just another thing, how come some watches, e.g., No. 39, is actually cheaper than the price you posted? It shows AUD$86.37 or USD$65.02 at the checkout. Have the prices got further reduced?

      Yes, that happens fairly often with some Amazon listings - I have seen some ridiculous fluctuations with some watches, as if they didn't really want to sell them. Sometimes, Amazon suddenly cease shipping to Australia for a while on some watches. Thanks for letting me know, I'll amend No. 39 accordingly.

      Hey mate, my help has been called for and I'll try my best.
      Unfortunately, since you haven't specified the type of AmEx card (bank issued or direct issued, and more specifically if you have an AmEx from Commonwealth Bank, as the Platinum and Diamond versions actually waive international transaction fees), the answer is 'it depends'.
      All AmEx cards issued in Australia (apart from the 2 CommBank ones mentioned before) charge a 3% fee on foreign transactions. Now I doubt Amazon's rate differential would be worse than 3%, so maybe pay in AUD and even though the merchant is located overseas, AmEx doesn't charge the fees for the transaction unlike other cards that charge even though it's AUD.
      Otherwise just use a 28 Degrees or similar, that's the best rate you'll get.

          Update: just did a mock order and yes you're better off getting Amazon to convert to AUD then pay direct with your AmEx to get charged ~$86.

          @PJC: Yep, got No. 39 for AUD$86.21 using Amazon's exchange rate. So paid in AUD and as MathNerd said, Amex won't charge me a foreign transaction fee on this. Very nice watch I have to say!

          @xev: No, you can't put your foot in the same river twice … especially Amazon. The list becomes obsolete, models come and go, prices and exchange rates and stocks fluctuate, and more importantly Members stop looking at an old list. Better to start again with a new list.

    I had a look on the wenger web page, and some of the models aren't listed there anymore, so it could be new colours coming out for the 'spring collection" and these are just cheap for clearance, so if you find one you like, grab it.
