Happened to come across this last night. If you live chat with a sales representative they will be able to apply the bonus 5gb data.

Including my current plan and added bonus data, I'm now sitting at a nice 31GB/mth paying only $10!

Q. How do I know when the 5GB Bonus data has been applied?
A. You will receive an SMS to advise you of your new monthly allowance once that the bonus data has been successfully added on to your account.

Q. Will the 5GB Bonus data show in My Account or 24x7?
A. Yes. The 5GB Bonus Data will be reflected in your monthly total data allowance in the My Account & 24x7.

Q. Will it show on my bill?
A. The 5GB Bonus data will appear on the bill as Bonus Data Allowance – 5GB.

Q. Can I share the 5GB Bonus data allowance with other services on my account?
A. Yes. If you are on a plan that enables your data to be shared between devices, the 5GB allowance will contribute to the total bucket of data that can be shared across eligible services on your account.

Q. How long does the 5GB Bonus data allowance stay on my service?
A. You will receive 5GB Bonus data every month to use in that month, unless you decide to do any of the following:

move to a Data Share SIM
move to a pre-paid service
move to a new plan, or
disconnect your service.

Any unused data allowance expires at the end of each billing month.

Q. What if I exceed my included plan allowance as well as the bonus 5GB? What charges apply?
A. If you use your plan allowance plus the bonus 5GB in a month, extra data will be automatically added in 1GB blocks for $10 to use in that month.

Q. Can the Bonus 5GB Bonus data allowance be used outside of Australia?
A. No, your plan allowance and the bonus 5GB data is only for use in Australia.

    Finally got the bonus after trying with 5 consultants during the day today. Thankfully! A lot of them said no because I’m already receiving a 5gb bonus (from 10gb to 15gb) but I finally got one to add another 5gb to give me 20gb in total.

Chatted to Saba who was initially reluctant, saying the deal couldn't be applied as I already had a bonus 5GB on my account ($49, 20GB JB deal) but just told them that my friend had already got it under the same deal as mine. Extra 5GB applied and SMS received while still on the chat :)

  • Just had Priyanka help me on chat. She told me she has added it. Will wait and see.

    It was my second attempt after trying a few days ago.

    She said it can take up to 4 hours to come through and I would receive an email.

    Tried last night with ‘Lovely’ who wasn’t lovely and told me I was not eligible for the extra data and tried to sell me a data pack!
    Tried again this morning and had ‘Nayan’ who checked and told me I was eligible. Received confirmation SMS straight away. Persistence does pay off! Also make sure you get them to add it to your accountstraight away, get a reference number and save chat transcripts helps too!

    Turns out, the previous 2 24x7 chat reps were lying when they said it will take a while. Just finished on the third attempt and got the sms & email confirmation both at the same time. So now on 20GB/month.

  • Well that was weird, after 3 failed attempts, telling me the run-around excuse it will take 48hrs, Ashanti (sp?) said they added it to my account straight away, then reminded me to stay online for the questionnaire but ended the chat straight away. Like, immediately. Completely bailed out.

        Yeah, it was. Half way through the next day got a text and then checked the app, all good. I'm assuming the rep was just sick of there types of calls.

    got Chetan… while waiting for him to bring up my details, he came back thanking me for waiting, and said he'd sucessfully added the value customer data bonus of 5 GB in my account !

        they didn't apply straight away… waited a couple of hours still nothing. Ended up waiting a week before calling up again..

        This time it was applied straight away while I was still on chat. I asked if the bonus could be applied to a data share sim after seeing a comment here (previously told no).. was again denied, but I kinda complained that the previous operator never properly applied my bonus and I was disappointed with that service… was asked to hold the line and bingo, got a bonus applied to my data share sim :D

    being quite skeptical at first i decided to give this a shot. had only joined with telstra literally on the same day with the pixel offer. so i jumped onto live chat and after talking crap with codi finally got SUSHIL. i just said that my friend had got 5GB extras recently on the exact same plan im on now. took down my details name dob and mobile number, sent me a verification text then proceeded to look into my account. 2-3 minutes later came back and said im a very special customer and that the 5GB was only for me this one time. gave me a reference number and said it would take 4-6hrs to activate. i was happy but then saw comments here saying that they got theirs straight away while still on live chat, but sure enough while i was sleeping i got a msg saying my monthly shared quota is now 20GB. thanks OP!

  • I've given up told them I'm walking after being rejected 5 times. when my contract is up i'm going! There idiots .Mobile service isn't that great I get dropouts. Ive had it it its not like they are not eventually going to come to the unlimited party which is coming as it is in the USA. Also have foxtel and there going as soon as my contract is up FU telstra can't give a measly 5Gb to keep customers happy!!!! You will need them as NBN rolls out completely and you realise the monopoly you had is over

    Yes! Picked up a Pixel 2XL from JB-HiFI $59pm Telstra deal including Google mini and headphones on Sunday. Monday logged into Telstra spoke to Vishal on live chat and managed to get the free 5gb and then today called Telstra and wangled a $10 discount on the plan.   • So, I keep trying this and keep getting Codi, who either asks me to rephrase the question, or tries to sell me stuff like data packs.

    • Well, I got a human - i think by just confusing the Virtual Codi. Ravindranath. Enabled it - I asked if this applies to each of the 6 services on my account or the account in total) and was told, just one.

        Try again for the other services.

  • So I was just on a chat with Telstra. They said this is only eligible for multiple services signed and can only be applied to 1 number. For the existing offers already given, they will review it and if found that if it's actually not eligible, it will be removed

    Oh well

    Man o man .. i'm going through some incredible difficulty trying to get a straight answer from these Telstra reps.

    I've called them twice already and they have confirmed that they will be applying the extra 5GB to my account, however, it's been weeks and it hasn't been done yet.
    When i call to find out what is going on, I get told I have to sign up to a new $110/mo plan to be eligible.

    I went back to the website that was linked by OP to try and explain to the rep that they are mistaken, and it's now been taken down. They are now basically denying that it was ever a thing.

    Anyone else having these kinds of problems?

  • I was also successful with the deal via Live Chat last Monday. It was a quick process. Basically, they just confirmed my account with Telstra and he applied it straight away. Got me to stay online while the data was being applied. Roughly a 15min wait. Talked to Lhosheto.

  • Thanks, got it via live chat. Anyone know if there's a max limit on bonus mobile data or monthly credit? Was told that it was 16gb and they couldn't add any more to one of my numbers. Also was told maximum monthly credit has been applied to my numbers ($10 + $20)…

    • Don't really know tbh… It kinda depends on who you chat to. All I know is that I originally started off with 2GB with 5GB bonus totalling 7GB on my SIM only plan and have since increased it to 31GB over the last few years. In terms of monthly credit, that depends on who you get as well. For me I have managed to get up front credit to help offset my monthly bill and additional monthly credit of 2 x $20. Ultimately, I have paid probably one bill in the last 4 years..

    At first the rep said I'm not eligible, which is fair enough because I only just ported in to Telstra. But when I asked for the reason why I'm ineligible, she couldn't give me an answer and gave me the extra 5gb lol

    It's just luck of the draw. I tried with a few sales reps on live chat and after speaking with two, I think I got it on the 3rd. Be persistent and maybe you will get lucky!

  • On the original friends family (staff) plan (min $10 spend, $39 cap), told they cant change staff accounts :(
    not sure if its worth to keep trying. they also mentioned it expired last month, but i can see a few people are getting lucky.

    • Yeah it really is luck of the draw on who you get on live chat.. Some will do it. Others won't.. If you can be bothered, keep trying.

    Just finished chatting to a Rep via Live Chat, applied the 5GB to my account and the wifes.

  • I spoke to Chetan yesterday morning but he said I wasn't eligible for the 5GB bonus data as I'd only been with Telstra for four years and that the bonus data was for Telstra customers of five years or more.

      I was told on Live Chat that one has to have 2 services to qualify, with no mention of time period.
      The excuses (to not give the bonus 5GB) seem to vary.

          Haha - don't believe what they are telling you. You just need the right rep to have it added to your account.. I know people who have only been with Telstra 6 weeks and they got this deal with no additional service.. Just keep trying a different rep til you get the right one.

    I just got 8GB added to my 15GB via Live chat (I only asked for 5GB). First time they said no, second one did it no problems!

  • I got 5gb a little while ago successfully added to my tablet plan; it was a Samsung Tab A 8.0 that I was getting for 10 a month on top of internet. 6gb now, still dont have it in tab to prevent bill shock!

      You should get an SMS confirming and it should update in your app almost instantly.

    • Like John said, it should happen instantly with a text message confirming the success of applying 5GB. If that didn't happen you won't be getting anything. Contact them again to have it applied.

      • I have received an SMS saying I have an additional 5GB, but the app doesn't reflect that. Maybe it's a little slow to update?

  • I pay $40 for 15gb on the Go Mobile Plus BYO $50 plan and apparently can't have any more data or credit - is that true?

    Does anyone else on the same plan pay less or receive more data?

    • I am on the Go Mobile BYO $50 plan (doesn't say plus in my plan though) and have 31gb shared data plan. You will be able to get it. Don't take no for an answer
