Happened to come across this last night. If you live chat with a sales representative they will be able to apply the bonus 5gb data.

Including my current plan and added bonus data, I'm now sitting at a nice 31GB/mth paying only $10!

We are giving you an additional 5GB of data, every month for no added cost – until you sign up to a new mobile plan. The offer will be added within the next few days and you don’t have to do anything.

Q. Does the 5GB Bonus data allowance cost anything? Is there a catch?

Q. How do I know when the 5GB Bonus data has been applied?
A. You will receive an SMS to advise you of your new monthly allowance once that the bonus data has been successfully added on to your account.

Q. Will the 5GB Bonus data show in My Account or 24x7?
A. Yes. The 5GB Bonus Data will be reflected in your monthly total data allowance in the My Account & 24x7.

Q. Will it show on my bill?
A. The 5GB Bonus data will appear on the bill as Bonus Data Allowance – 5GB.

Q. Can I share the 5GB Bonus data allowance with other services on my account?
A. Yes. If you are on a plan that enables your data to be shared between devices, the 5GB allowance will contribute to the total bucket of data that can be shared across eligible services on your account.

Q. How long does the 5GB Bonus data allowance stay on my service?
A. You will receive 5GB Bonus data every month to use in that month, unless you decide to do any of the following:

move to a Data Share SIM
move to a pre-paid service
move to a new plan, or
disconnect your service.

Any unused data allowance expires at the end of each billing month.

Q. What if I exceed my included plan allowance as well as the bonus 5GB? What charges apply?
A. If you use your plan allowance plus the bonus 5GB in a month, extra data will be automatically added in 1GB blocks for $10 to use in that month.

Q. Can the Bonus 5GB Bonus data allowance be used outside of Australia?
A. No, your plan allowance and the bonus 5GB data is only for use in Australia.

  • Thought I'd give it a shot. Spoke to Saba and asked for my details, then asked if I received a text.

    I said yes, I didn't though (have been with big T about 2 weeks)

    Said can apply the 5GB and we were done in 5 minutes.

    Asked for an order number/reference and got a 1-xxxxxxxxxxxx number. Checked on https://www.my.telstra.com.au/myaccount/track-my-order and was in progress.

  • Thanks. I just had 3GB added (they said I already had 2gb bonus on my account).

    At first I was told it was only an offer made for two hours and I had missed out. When I said that didn’t seem fair and that I read on ozbargain that people are still getting it, that’s when I was offered the 3GB.

  • I finally managed to get the 5GB added to 2 services via 2 different reps. I got text saying I have 35GB total shareable data which is correct but then received another text that my data is now 50GB. So I guess the bonus got applied and then some. I went through 10 reps just to get the first 5GB bonus so I guess it's a reward for my troubles…

    I post this not as a dick measuring contest, but rather to find out what is possible!
    So in saying at, what is everyone now on?
    Personally I'm on $39 for unlimited calls and 28gb per month (6 months to run on sim only plan).

        How did you get the $20/m reduction?.

        • After I got the bonus data I asked the rep if I could have some extra credit applied to my account for being a loyal customer. The rep said he could put $20 credit on the service. Naturally I was thrilled as I was on $70 BYO plan and already had $30 credit. So I thought I would end up with $20/month after all credits ($50) applied.

          Fast forward to this morning when I checked with another rep about my plan and turns out the discount of $20 was applied but the existing discounts were taken off. So essentially I was paying $50 instead of $40/month (WTF). After spending 2.5 hours on the live chat I managed to get the rep to give me all the discounts as intended. So fingers crossed it's $20/month. Have to wait for next bill to confirm.

          Btw Telstra took 10GB off from my data allowance as the bonus data was added too many times it seems. :(

  • On 24th Feb I spoke with Telstra Live chat and they stated that they would be giving me the 5GB and a SMS would confirm it soon. I followed up today (48 hrs afterwards) and as I was on live chat the banners saying I had been given 5GB loyalty bonus per month disappeared from my app and my online Telstra 24x7 account portal.. They were there 45 mins ago..

    Now Live chat has asked for my transcript from the 24th to raise with their supervisors, which I have sent them.

    I have not received the 5GB and my allowance is the same as it was in Aug last year when my new plan started. I am waiting for Live chat to get back to me.

    Anyone else had this happen to them?

    UPDATE: Argene came through after 15 minutes of waiting and said they got approval and will Fast track it through. I have just received SMS confirmation.. Add Argene to the helpful list.

    Just got onto live chat. First person told me it was a limited flash deal and that I could no longer get it so left them and did another chat and second person gave it to me with no trouble at all. Thanks a lot for the heads up guys!

    My wife managed to get the bonus data on her second try just now. First consultant said the offer had expired, and wouldn't budge… then on the second try the data was approved and applied immediately!

  • Finally had it applied, think I've tried around 5 times over 3 days. This was by far the most painful experience with Telstra. However pretty worth it for an extra 5GB per month.

  • They just told me it was added. When I checked an our later, the only change was my used date was reset. Spoke again, and was told that I can't have 2x bonus datas - "the system won't allow it and deletes one".
    I'm on the $39/month, with $10/month discount and $5gb bonus data (ie 7gb/$29). They wouldn't budge.

    • Its BS about the 2x bonus data. They originally said, I already have the bonus data so we cannot apply it twice. Then i said, my friends had the same plan as me and they were able to get it on top of the bonus data at sign up.

      Just need to say it politely and they will do it for you.

      I have $20 discount on billing due to loyalty, had a 4gb bonus on signup, and then now a 5gb additional bonus from this deal.

  • How many years does one need to be in order to be considered a "loyal customer"?

    • One comment early on said they were told 5+ years but the criteria doesn’t seem consistent.

          Yep - Definitely don't have to be with them for a long time, or any required time period for that matter. Just luck of the draw with which rep you get from Telstra..

  • Manage to get it added after spoken to 5 people. My initial plan only have 1gb bonus data. So he changes my bonus to 6gb. Thanks. Now on the next mission to get my wife phone added too.

  • I was transferred to Joy and there was no joy at all.

    I was told I have to re-contract my plan in order to get the 5GB. When I ask what the criterias are, she said there isn't any, just whether or not you receive an sms.

    and then 'Codi' immediately offered to transfer me straight to a human.

      I did on the JB HIFi plan - 5 gb each for two plans, and managed to get my $5 data sim increased from 100 mb to 3.1 gb.

    Tried again today. First try was Grefil which was not successful (absolutely no budge), but second attempt with Sudeshana was successful with relative ease (and they were friendly too)! I received an email and sms confirming 5gb more data applied to my account.

    For what it's worth, I accidentally answered option 1 (i.e. I have a billing/add-on query) when the bot was asking where to direct my question and it was the Telstra Billing Chat team who gave me the credit.

      Yeh i had success with the billing team as you said but had issues preivously with another team.

  • Took a little bit of effort to get it through but managed to get the 5gb. First guy said no way. Second said yes (afreen) but only gave me 1x5gb credit eventually i talked her into giving it for all 3 of my services, but she only applied it to the two if them. Spoke to a 3rd person and they fixed it up and added the last service because afreen said she would :)

    I now have 2x15gb plans for $30 each per month and 1x25gb plan for $50 - Very happy!

    • Oh no, my guy said can only be done to one service per account… are all your accounts linked (eg in my case I have 1 companion sim + 5 data sims)?

      • I have 3 mobile plans plus 2x$5 per month data share sims, only applies to the 3 mobile plans but as i said took a bit of convincing to get it through.

        • Are the three mobile plans all on the one bill? I wonder if my $5 Companion sim plan would be eligible… but doubtful given all 7 sim cards share the same data pool.

  • FINALLY. I have been trying since this deal went up. Finally got Bhagavanti from billing who applied it on the spot. Hopefully it's followed through with confirmation but she provided me a reference number so here's to hoping!

    I've got the F&F deal (15GB) with $10 porting discount and initial +5GB.

    Now on 25GB total with the additional 5GB I just received.

    He added the 5GB without hesitation. I now pay $49 per month for 28GB. Per other user's experience make sure you get someone from the billing team, and be extremely friendly. I added a smiley to end of every sentence :) Could not be happier with my experience.

    • The 24 hour automated process is a lie they are using to avoid bad scores, call them out and they'll give you 5GB.

    You should IMMEDIATELY receive the extra 5GB (with a text confirmation stating your new total from 'TelstraData') during the chat, if you do not; mention that you have not yet received the message until they add it, or try another service attendant if they refuse to comply.

      • I think it's fair to keep it as 'targeted' given it's not automatically for everyone and there's really no guarantee everyone is able to get it… I sense it relies on a bit of luck that the operator will give a goodwill gesture.

  • Spoke to a rep named "Adnan" on Sunday who advised:

    As I have checked your account details, so definitely you are eligible for the bonus data.
    So for this you don't have to do anything as the bonus data will be automatically get added on your account.
    It will take around 48 to 72 hours.

    No data had been added, but an I had an interaction ID, so I tried again tonight and had it resolved by "Prachi":

    Okay I can see that 5gb data was not added in your account.
    Let me add it for you as it was promised to you.

    Just got an SMS confirming the increase to 20GB.

    FYI, I'm on the $49 10GB BYO plan with the Xmas sale $10 discount ($39 p/m total) with bonus 5GB for waiting for that "popup"

    When making any deal or important conversation with Telstra, whether live chat, phone, instore etc, always ask for an "interaction ID". This is a reference number that matches the notes that the rep has left for you. This gives you proof of the discussion that took place and means that you don't have to explain the situation again.

    Also, saying "Transfer me" will quickly deal with the virtual assistant.

      Not sure of the specifics here but if you received 20GB as a start up plan, you should be able to get this deal as well. Don't let them tell you otherwise…

  • Tried to follow this up again late yesterday. Same result but new excuse. "There are too may requests of adding 5 Gb bonus data on customers account that is why it taking time.", from the transcript.

    Next time, going to do crayner's trick and get the "interaction ID".

  • Does this work with "Corporate accounts" - I am signed up through the Amway TELSTRA deal, and have a total of six numbers (4 mobiles, and two numbers for data sims) in the family (on the one account).

    I'm on the $39 15gb Sim only plan, which I only signed up for in Jan 18 (came from years of Telstra Prepaid / Postpaid). Took 2 livechats. 1st said I was eligible but they weren't authorised to add it for some reason, and to call back in business hours. 2nd guy initially said that it had already been applied to my account, which was wrong as my plan is 10gb standard, plus a 5gb bonus for the life. I said my friends on the same plan had been getting an extra 5gb. Came back and applied it. Interaction number given without prompting. SMS received

      EDIT: Had to chat again and he said he checked and it was applied. Seconds later, I got the SMS and it was updated in my account…coincidence? I think not.
