Happened to come across this last night. If you live chat with a sales representative they will be able to apply the bonus 5gb data.

Including my current plan and added bonus data, I'm now sitting at a nice 31GB/mth paying only $10!

A. Yes. The 5GB Bonus Data will be reflected in your monthly total data allowance in the My Account & 24x7.

Q. Will it show on my bill?
A. The 5GB Bonus data will appear on the bill as Bonus Data Allowance – 5GB.

Q. Can I share the 5GB Bonus data allowance with other services on my account?
A. Yes. If you are on a plan that enables your data to be shared between devices, the 5GB allowance will contribute to the total bucket of data that can be shared across eligible services on your account.

Q. How long does the 5GB Bonus data allowance stay on my service?
A. You will receive 5GB Bonus data every month to use in that month, unless you decide to do any of the following:

move to a Data Share SIM
move to a pre-paid service
move to a new plan, or
disconnect your service.

Any unused data allowance expires at the end of each billing month.

Q. What if I exceed my included plan allowance as well as the bonus 5GB? What charges apply?
A. If you use your plan allowance plus the bonus 5GB in a month, extra data will be automatically added in 1GB blocks for $10 to use in that month.

Q. Can the Bonus 5GB Bonus data allowance be used outside of Australia?
A. No, your plan allowance and the bonus 5GB data is only for use in Australia.

    This is not a real deal when most of the people cannot get it. Only lucky people who got new shift workers on the Chat got the 5GB upgrade..

  • suggest ozbargainers ask for a reference no. (if successful) or at least try and get it added to your account notes. and if for whatever reason (main reason is that its TELSTRA!) it doesn't go through, you'll have proof of the promise. this is how i've won over the years and got crazy good value out of them inc. by complaining as tuhan has mentioned throughout this thread. it takes a couple secs more but worth it in the long run.

  • I am on this really old family and friends plan I was not able to get the 5gb extra data. Currently I only have 1gb on the account.

  • can also confirm i got the 5gb through live chat with a chap named Kiran. i do have multiple services on the a/c, but he didn't mention the other numbers at all (i didn't ask for those ones - they are my mates' ), not sure if that's why i qualified. also got an "interaction no." reference no. as proof of the convo which ive recorded if the promised txt msg never comes through (i've been burnt many times before by Telstra). if that doesn't come through, i'll complain and ask for more.

    Chat rep said it’s automatic. Just have to wait for the sms. Didn’t ask for any details about my account so I presume it all applies to all accounts..?

    Aditya is a knob. I asked to add the 5Gb, he said I'm eligible, took forever to check, then said he added it, received an SMS and I've actually lost 20GB of my allowance (which is the bonus data on the Premium Plan)!

    • It looks like it removes the Bonus Data you already have. So be careful if you already have more than 5GB bonus data!

        I had 5GB bonus data from my initial sign up (few months ago) and they added an additional 5GB today - confirmed on my account showing the extra data.

      • Sounds like you had a dodgy sales rep. Clearly didn't know what he/she was doing. This is when you can try get some compensation for waste of time/incompetent sales rep. Be polite but firm.

        • I don’t know… I’m on the Premium Plan with 120GB and yes I was being greedy and this is what happened. After live chat I contacted the premium support number and they said rest assured we will fix it, but the sales rep reordered the plan on live chat or something so it’ll take 24hours said phone support. It has now been 20 hours and it still hasn’t been restored to 120GB. 😕

      Aditya is a knobhead indeed. He promised me 5GB of data during the chat but it never materialised. I then chatted with Swapnil an hour later and he delivered the goods.

        • I would call them to complain and if they don't reinstate the lost data asap, you will lodge a complaint with the TIO.

        • @RoughMetaphors: yeah I’m worried because I had $20 mobile credit per month which was during their Christmas offer and $10 valued customer bonus. I reckon it’s gone because they messed with the account. I’ve report Aditya multiple times including through live chat survey, premium support via call and on their twitter handle. Worst experience ever. Omg.

    Just got it applied, just waiting to see if my account will be updated correctly but I saved my transcript just in case.

    This was what I asked them:

    Worked for me. 'MEGHA' did it for me in 3 minutes.

    I just stated id been with telstra for 6 years and asked them to apply it for me. If they said no i would of threatened to leave. FYI i am already on my plan $40 cheaper than its advertised.

    • Make Aditya in bold and underlined because what a pain. First removed 20GB from my Premium Plus plan, then ordered a whole new XXL service saying it will be restored. In the end contacted support via Phone and they fixed up his mistakes. Aditya has been reported. Not happy. But everything has now been resolved. :)

  • telsta 'support' is the worst. 90% of them don't want to do anything so you get every story under the sun as you work your way though them trying to get one that is actually willing and able to do their job.

    Was on hold to get to live chat for a while - ozBargained I suspect!

    I got a similar message about it being automatically applied later (no specific timeline). That being said, unless chatting from the 24x7 app gives them my details, he didn't ask for my number or anything. Good thing I got the transcript!

  • Tried to get it added to my girlfriends account, no luck. They said she’d have to wait for the SMS. Whether it’s because she’s only been a Telstra customer for two weeks (moved across from Voda to 12 mth SIM only plan) I’m not sure. We might give it a try in store tomorrow.

    She said it is an old page and you must have received an SMS to be eligible and the offer was on 1st qtr 2017.

    Tried twice. Just getting a generic script response

    They don't check if that applies to your account - had to be prompted and even then unable to assist further.

      I never received the sms. Just saw the web page that stated the free 5gb. Went on live chat and had myself and about 6 other accounts (not all mine) added with the free 5gb data each. Not one of us received an SMS stating we were eligible. Once it was applied I received an SMS stating that my shared data had increased to 26gb and then another SMS to 31gb (for my wife's number and I).

    Dennis was a doufus so I demanded to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. He put me through to Ray who knew less than my dog and spun a story that I’m not eligible blah blah, you needed to get an sms…..

    Told her I had numerous friends avail themselves of this and of course everyone that got it other than me had the magical eligible plans that I don’t.

    Spoke to chat 3 times and first chat I was put through to supervisor, here’s my run down of all the chats, each one was different. Edit: I didn’t mention anything about Ozbargain.

    Chat 1- Ariane and I were chatting for roughly 45 mins, after a lot of her uselessness she basically said I had to pay an extra $10 for the bonus and that she couldnt honour my previous deal I had with Telstra. She mentioned towards the end suprisingly that Telstra was investigating the page and might have it shut down. After me mentioning how disgraceful that was she asked if my query was solved, I said no then she put me through to her supervisor Michael.

    Conversation basically went as follows:
    Supervisor: “This is only available to customers who are invited thru SMS, Based on the one pager offer, Telstra sends SMS invitation to customers. Not sure what are the criteria about it.
    I can tell that the consultants who honoured it without doing anything were not aware of the one-pager. This is currently being investigated and we will contact all the impacted customers regarding this.
    Honestly, we've been receiving a lot of chats regarding that. That offer is still active. The problem here is that on the Ozbargain, it doesn't state about the eligiblity of the offer which can only be seen by us, consultants.
    You must be invited through SMS first. The reason why many customer have the access to that link is because it was posted by a customer who has been invited. This customer didn't mention that there are only certain customers are eligible to this offer.”

    Chat conversation 2 with Namrata: said the general “we are giving you bonus for being loyal blah blah”.
    I responded by asking is that a guarantee, what happens if I do not receive the text and offer expires?
    Namrata responded with “no need to worry, it will be added”.

    I then asked for a reference number for the chat and then Namrata asked me for all my details and gave me the reference number afterwards.

    The third and final chat Sangit said:
    “I would like to inform that one by one every customer get this message, and after getting the message, it will be activate within 24-48 hours automatically, once it will get activate you will get the notification of this.
    I would like to inform that this offer will get activate automatically within 12-24 hours,once it will be activated then you will get the notification message as well.”

    I responded by saying: Ok cool, if I do not receive this text do you know the best date to contact Telstra? So when this sms texts expires?

    He responded with: “You will get it, because , it is started from today. So you will get it soon. So there is no need to worry more about this, it is for all.”

    I just gave it a go for kicks and within 10mins the guy on the other end of the chat did this for me. I asked about the "Bonus Data – Just to say Thanks offer" even though the link on the telstra site doesn't work anymore. The assistant on the live chat said it'll be done automatically within 24 hours. To be sure though I asked him for a reference number so he pulled up my account details and then gave me a reference so I can follow up on it later. So looks like its confirmed! Those getting people saying no might have to disconnect and try another chat rep?

      I would ensure the reps access your account and gave confirmation he will add the bonus to your account.

      The generic "we will give you $5gb blah blah" without asking you any ID or customer account number doesn't sound credible as there's no proof.

        I totally agree. I tried this at got the ‘its not necessary’ line. I was told if it wasn’t applied by Friday they would add it manually

    I have been with telstra for 20ish years …. and already got a bonus last year after I missed a 8gb reseller deal call, so hopefully will get 3+lastyear5gb+new 5gb on my $50 plan :-)

        Can’t beat their coverage and speed, and I can tax deduct to soften their premium and have worked in passenger seat from Margaret river to Perth
        I got a 156 Mbps speedtest last month…and got two other >100 !
        Other telcos couldn’t even get a decent signal inside my inner suburb house…

        • Yep, well that is a good reason to pay extra/stick with Telstra. Many people on Telstra are even happy to get Any signal whatsoever in the rural/regional areas, but sometimes the other way round with the two other telco's as well.

      Yes, I just did. I already have 5gb sign up bonus and 5gb secondary service bonus.

    It looks like the page has now been taken down.

    I got onto live chat in an attempt to have this applied to a business plan. First the rep told me he was going to add the data, then he said it was only for personal plans.
    Then he told me the offer was only valid for new mobile plans, quoting the line - "until you sign up to a new mobile plan" - a line which explicitly contradicts what he was telling me.

    This whole 'offer' is such a bizarre scenario.

          For me the SMS confirming additional data being applied was instant. While i was still chatting to the love chat agent my sms came through.

          I didn't receive any SMS from telstra notifying me that I was eligible. Just the former Web page.

          However, it looks like it's been ozbargained and they are cracking down on who is getting and who isn't..

    I contacted an online agent and this is what I received from them:

    "I've checked and found that as you are on go mobile plus plan $95 you are eligible for this 5GB bonus data."

    So I got this bonus as expected.

    Worked for me, I went through the app, chatted to a robot that forwarded me to chatting to a real person. I simply asked if I could have the extra 5gb added to my account (as seen online) and he added it with no problems. Takes 24hrs. Thanks ozbargain
