  • Hard to pull the trigger when they had them for $200 cheaper earlier in the month(granted Jetstar, but stil). Any chance there will be much better sales between now and end of June/start of July OP? Thanks

    • +56

I would pay $200 more to avoid Jetstar.

      • +3

        +1

      • Haha fair enough. In my experience with them, if you arrive on time and have everything you need, they are fine.
Haven't dealt with the horror stories that others have, nor have I flown Singapore to be able to compare.

        • +6

Only my mother can make me sit upright so much. Say no to Jetstar! ;-)

        • Flown with Jetstar a few times and always seem to be sitting next to rough characters… haha

          Never again

        • +1

Could be a placebo effect but travelling with SQ just gives you that premium experience all the way.

        • nor have I flown Singapore to be able to compare.

Better than Jetstar. Better than Qantas, but nothing special compared to Emirates or Qatar IMO.

        • +2

@Hunter14: if you pick the right flight, they flew Singapore to Tokyo on the Airbus A350. The larger/newer tv screen, better seats and nicer plane is definitely not a placebo effect

        • @John:
In addition, the better looking hostesses are definitely not placebo.

      • I would go with Jetstar for a cheaper price with a direct flight. You don't want to spend another 8 hrs extra on a plane and waste another half a day each way.

    • +2

Hi - Qantas does great deals to Tokyo every couple of months. The last one was on 11/Feb, so it might be a while till the next one.

Is there any offers for Chennai - Sydney flights?

    • Flew $350 return last November, with a short stopover in Cairns. Sure BYO food and a bit more $ for extra baggage but I would definitely do it again! Great price and the flight was absolutely fine.

  • +1

Anyone know why Brisbane is usually more expensive than Sydney? Brisbane-Singapore is 150km shorter than Sydney-Singapore, shouldn't it be cheaper?

    • +1

      Possibly airport fees.

    • Less competition on the route, esp Scoot. Fly from OOL and you might get a better price

      • Prices from OOL are listed above, and cost $84 MORE than Brisbane. Bizarrely, they go via Sydney!

  • Stopover in Singapore possible? E.g. 1 week in SG, one in Japan?

    • +6

Trust me, you're better off having the extra week in Japan ;)

      • i do trust you, but have family in SG so its cheaper without hotels.

        • +1

          i do trust you

          Thanks

          but have family in SG

Fair enough, catching up with family is a valid reason to stop off in SG.

          so its cheaper without hotels

This isn't though. You can sleep in capsules or hostels on the cheap.

        • +1

          @idonotknowwhy:
          Or for free with family..

        • @mickotron: bingo

    • Try booking multi city and report back to us

    • I just tried a multi-city, out of curiousity. Couldn't get cheaper than $679. Typical route for this price:
      MEL-SIN 8 May
      SIN-TYO 15 May
      TYO-MEL 23 May

      • That's not bad mate. I'd bite at that price.

        • +1

Yup, only $34 more per adult seat. But I also tried 1 week in Singapore followed by two weeks in Japan, that jumped up in price. Must be infringing onto a school holiday period.

      • I just booked but with Japan Tokyo in the middle of my 2 weeks. $129 more only.

        MEL-SIN 31 Aug
        SIN-HDN 4 Sep
        HND-SIN 12 Sep
        SIN-MEL 15 Sep

    • Ended up booking osaka for $720 with 1 week stop over in SG. Without a long stopover was $680. Not as cheap as previous deal but i missed out on it.

  • +5

once again that mt fuji screenshot makes an appearance…

  • Is seat selection possible with websites like BYOjet and Skiddoo? If it's a free for all and there's a chance of getting separated seats when travelling as a couple I'd rather book through the airline.

    • I booked with budgetair and after they send you be flight confirmation you can manage your booking though Singapore airlines website and change your seats there.

    • I couldn't select seating on the website when i booked the $600 deal a year+ back with Singapore Airlines (Sydney to Paris) however if i downloaded the Singapore Airlines app on my phone it would allow me to log in and select seats.

    • You dont do the seat selection etc via the booking sites.
Once its all confirmed, you will then be able to view your booking on the Singapore Airlines website.
From there you can make all your preferences including seats and meals etc etc
I just came back from 2 weeks in Japan only a few days ago, via SG Air

  • Until when is the sale? Also, how do sales like these work if I'm planning a Perth -> Tokyo, Osaka -> Perth trip?

  • Hi Rep do you know if there anything for Osaka? Thanks!

  • Which airline is ranked #1, is it Qatar?

I've flown long-haul on both in the past few years, and I'd have SG in front. Granted, this was just in Economy class.

    • -1

Emirates for Economy is #1 I think.

      • I checked this morning. Qatar #1 overall, Singapore #2.

I got a great price on SG for Europe this summer, I'm happy enough :)

        • Sorry got it wrong - Emirates was for 2016 and it depends on who's list ranking you find depending on seat class or overall abd which year. Don't just rely on the first search but rather your personal experience too. Skytrax is not the source of all truth.

          For 2016:
          http://bit.ly/2BRGIYn

Sheesh - granted I was lazy and got it wrong, it doesn't deserve a negative the inconsistent results.

  • +2

Don't forget the $40 dollar voucher during your transit!

    • +1

      It's now only $20 :(

    • Nope ….. finishes 31 March.

      • Apparently it gets extended every year.

Hoping so as I have a few hours in Changi in April.

        • +1

So do I, and so do I.

    • $20 for food, $20 for shopping

      Anything decent under $20?

      • Chocolate.

        • The second S$20 CDV is valid for one-time use for to redeem Liquor, Perfumes or Cosmetics purchases only.

You can use to buy choc?

  • Just right in time OP thanks.

Just wondering if I want to book a flight do I need to have passport for all the people on the booking ready?

I need to arrange a passport for my 2yo.

  • Newbie question - whats the best way to search for Melbourne to Japan return with a longer stay over in Singapore? It seems like a needle in a haystack.

  • Do I have to fly in/out of Tokyo to get these prices?
I'm trying to do the following trip with SIA:

    BNE-KIX 21 Sep (+/- a 1 day)
    TYO-BNE 5 Oct (+/- a 1 day)

    It's a lot more than $662
I have can get there on Cathay Pacific for around $900.
Qantas is also apparently having flights BNE-NRT for $798 but when I try to book for the above dates the cost is about $2,400 for 2 people?!?

    Am I doing something wrong?

  • The tickets I get from here have 6-8 hours in Singapore. Cannot do that with an 18 months baby travelling with us.
Got return tickets with 1.5 (outbound and inbound) hours in Singapore for $724pp with no booking or credit card fees from Singapore Airline website.

  • wow, with the 35hrs to Tokyo seems SG make JQ look good at 13hrs. Thats some achievement.
