    Binglee start to sell rice?

    Kidding :-)

  • If all you want to do is steam rice there are plenty of rice cookers on eBay for around $25. I have one, perfect rice every time .. :-).. !!

The end result is better on the Panasonic-type units than the Kambrook. I've owned both.

    • +1

Do u have the same one?
I bought the 10 cup Kambrook rice cooker (the next size up) and it was the worst rice cooker ever.
The rice came out not fluffy and undercooked.
The steam outlet was too large so water spat out all over the bench. If you put less water in, the rice is inedible. If you put more water in, the bench top becomes a pond.
I emailed Kambrook who was not interested and ended up upgrading to the panasonic one here which makes perfect white/brown rice everytime.

Not the same quality and no fuzzy logic.

Panasonic make awesome rice cookers, mine is over 15 years old and has never had a single issue and the non-stick is like new.

Also does perfect brown rice which cheaper cookers can struggle with.

    • Stay away from Kambrook rice cooker. I bought and returned it at the same day. The cooker burned the rice and it failed switch to warm mode.

  • Does anyone know of some that are Teflon free?

    • You can get ones with ceramic or stainless steel bowls.

Wouldn't imagine they'd be cheap or easy to find.

      • +1

I found a stainless steel rice cooker. Brand name is Tatung, Taiwan's most of popular rice cooker. Found a shop in Melbourne that sold them, $200

        • Do you find the rice sticks?

        • @Scab:

Sticks to the bowl? No, not really. Maybe a few grains. It uses a indirect cooking method so sticking in minimised. Tatung say they are the most popular brand in Taiwan

        • @bennos: I can tell you yes they are the most popular

    • Yes! Best ones I can find are from Korea and the brand name is 'Buffalo'. They are popular in Korea and available at those Asian kitchenware stores you see in shopping centres plus eBay has them.
Anyway, they seemed like the best ones are good quality stainless steel bowls (no Teflon)

  • Can I swap with brown rice?

    • Only white rice bags available as far as I know

Can I swap the white rice for an OLED TV?

meh i bought a $18 rice cooker from target which does an excellent job. but not sure how long it will last.

    • +3

      You're obviously not Asian.

    • I'm here anticipating this type of comment and I am not disappointed!

Wonder if you can price match at Bing Lee and also get the bonuses for an even better bargain

  • I don't agree that this is worth the price. But I urge anyone who cooks rice twice a week to buy a rice cooker/steamer! They're fantastic.

You can never go wrong with real Japanese and Korean brands.

    • are you saying there are some fake Japanese and Korean brands?

      • Yes. Rice cookers you don't see in those countries even though the brand is very national.

        • OK gotcha, so you mean the models that they sell in the home counties are the best ones but they also make a lot of other models, including some just average ones that are for sale in other parts of the world. Right

        • +1

@King Tightarse: I mean don't buy a Samsung or LG rice cooker (if they made them), but go for the unsold Korean brands that are big over there like Kuckoo. It's hard to explain, but don't fall for 'global' hype just because you assume Japan or Korea know rice cookers so all their brands will.

Kinda like if you had a beer in Australia that was shit but people overseas thought Australians drank beer really well so they buy it.

I have 1 of this and the rice cooks nicely. There is 1 problem: there is no Condensation collector. not sure why Panasonic decided not to have 1 like all other rice cooker.

    • I'm wondering as well since I have this model too.

  • Bought one of these recently, must admit I'm happy with the taste and texture. But, us it supposed to come out all clumped together and quite sticky?

First time I've owned one so have no experience with rice cookers.

    • Have you got your water quantity right for the type of rice you are cooking?

      • Yeah, using Jasmine rice. Dont know if that makes a difference.

        • From Thailand? I find Oz jasmine rice tends to clump together.

  • Selling for $89 at Goodguys as mentioned before. Take it down to $84.50 on their ebay shop with PICK5 code.
Not sure if the bag of rice and tupperware set is worth the difference :)

  • Anyone know where to get the bowl, my one has starting with scratches.

  • I use the Sunbeam Rice Perfect 5 Cup Rice Cooker, RC2300, works perfectly and had it for many years, very easy to operate and does rice perfect every time. Just buy the cheapest rice cooker, they all work the same way, K-Mart sells a 7 cup rice cooker for only $14.

I use the rice cooker to make soups, cook noodles and many other things. My 5 cup cooker is just the right size, I do not believe most people need a 10 cup cooker.
