Boost has launched its revamped $40 prepaid plan just today making it quite enticing, especially considering they utilise Telstra's 4G network. For $40 (no contracts) you get unlimited calls & text, 15GB data, 100 international minutes to 50 countries, free Apple Music streaming, and unused data rollover. Enjoy :)

Note: $40 is for 28 days, but choosing the auto-recharge option gives you the full month each time as recharge is set for the same day each month.

  • Very nice. I was happy with Boost but switch direct to Telstra for $39pm. For same allowance but not international mins but that took plenty of work on live chat and its 12 month plan.

    • What benefit ? To clarify, you get no international minutes, are locked into a contract, all to save $12 per year, AND it took a lot of work to get through live chat?

      • Full Telstra network is my guess.

      • There are a fair few benefits with Telstra direct like Telstra Thanks, AFL and NRL, OneDrive and some other stuff.

      • +5

uhh.. he/she is saying thats what they had negotiated previously. This is a new offer that was not available at that time

        • Oh, right. Completely misunderstood. Thanks

        • Correct. That's what I mean. If this was Boost's offer at the time I'd never have switched

    • +1

Probably would have been better to do the JB Hifi plan for 12 months. $49 per month but $200 giftcard.

      • Double the data if you get the 5gb bonus too!

  • +3

Interesting, now I can drop to the $20 from the 30 plan

    • +1

      How so?

It looks like the $20 plan only lasts 7 days….

      • +1

        $10 is 7d.

        • Not for me.

          It says.
"7 day expiry. All for within Aus." Under the $20 for 2.5GB.

How are you getting a month?

        • @movieman:

Yeah the $20 recharge is only 7 days.

Who are 7 day recharges for anyway?? They look like such bad value when you consider the $30 charge has double the data, and 28 day expiry (plus some international minutes).

        • +1

          @movieman:

Shows 28 day expiry with $20 recharge for me on the Boost Mobile app…

        • @reecho:

Ah, problem seems to be with their mobile site. I was looking at it on my phone and got this: https://imgur.com/a/3jBj7

          Still do.

      • +1

Not sure where you are seeing that. Every page I look at shows $20 is 28 days.

Refer to the CIS if in doubt.
        https://boost.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/CIS_131017.p…

        • +1

Confirmed with their Live Chat. Only the $10 recharge is 7 days. The rest is for 28 days.

        • +1

Edit: Seems to still be 28 day expiry when recharging through the app or #111#. I guess someone must have made a mistake when updating the website?

There's no reference to the $20 unlimited calls/text plus 1GB data plan on the main website anymore (link). It's now $20 for 2.5GB but 7 day expiry.

Presumably it'll still be possible to recharge $20 and get 1GB for 28 days if you're currently on the Anytime Plus offer and have auto recharge set up, although it's obvious that they're trying to push low usage customers onto a $30 minimum spend month-to-month.

        • @Nomadesque:

It’s a problem with their mobile site

          https://imgur.com/a/3jBj7

        • @Mitch889:

That's exactly what I was getting.

  • Used to have unlimited intl calling to selected countries. Glad I'm still on the old plan.

    • -5

Boost doesnt have plans, they offer a monthly service that can change from month to month.

If you are recharging with $40 then you will get what the website says for $40 today.

      • +7

Not correct. You choose an 'offer' and you stay on that offer until choose a new one. You can still recharge on the old 'offer'. The old offer/plans just become grandfathered. If you choose a new offer, then you can't go back to the old one.

      • Boost doesnt have plans, they offer a monthly service that can change from month to month.

Check the wording of this page

If you are recharging with $40 then you will get what the website says for $40 today.

        https://boost.com.au/blog/2017/10/23/change-offer/

        • One thing to note is you now need to change your offer after your current monthly recharge has expired. This is because the change used to only take effect at your next recharge whereas now it takes effect immediately. This means you loose the remaining entitlements in the current month you had paid for i.e. unlimited calls and text.

Source: I changed my offer yesterday and it cut off my calls and text even though I had 12 days left on my $40 recharge. Took over an hour of talking to their online rep yesterday to get my 12 days back. They really need to change it back to only taking effect at your next recharge.

  • +3

I thought you meant you get the Apple Music included per month, which would of made this offer pretty dahm good.

  • Any boost sim deals ATM?

  • +3

    (Full Telstra Network)

Does that mean it's now using 4GX too? Last time I was on Boost it had recently started offering 4G but not the faster 4GX in metro areas. I'll switch as soon as my current plan runs out if so.

    • +2
    • 4GX is a Telstra marketing term and it is not well defined. Some think it means LTE over 700mhz. Others think it has to do with speed, or carrier aggregation.

There are people posting high speed LTE speed tests from Boost (much faster than the 50mbps quoted in the link). There are also people commenting that their Boost phone did not have coverage where Telstra services (same handset bands) otherwise had coverage.

There is an extensive thread on Whirlpool about how Boost coverage might not be the same coverage as Telstra. See https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2674047

In short - I wouldn't assume Boost has access to the entire Telstra mobile network. I also do not think that Boost speeds are capped (or if they are capped, people do not seem to notice).

  • -4

just here to say i pay $30 for optus for 15gb with all you can eat :p

    • -1

Just replying to say, "go f"… never mind ;-)

      • +5

don't expect a reply today, they'll be refreshing the page all day, trying to get it to load ;-)

    • Floptus? No thanks.

    • +1

Cool story. Still on Optus though.

  • Extra weekend data is gone?

    • +2

Yes gone, it used to be 4GB for the month plus 1GB per weekend (so ~8GB of data per month)
Now it is 15GB for the whole month (with rollover), better for me.

      • I use to get the 3GB +1GB every weekend for $30/month, so paying an extra $10 for another 8GB of data with rollover is a no brainer haha

  • +1

Woolworths Mobile has 15GB data (data bank up to 15GB), unlimited Aussie calls/SMS, unlimited calls to 10 counties, $100 for premium calls and other OS calls. All for $40.50 for 30 days. It's on the Telstra Wholesale network which for most people is exactly the same.

Recharge vouchers are even cheaper when using discounted wish egift cards. Effectively only $38.48.

    • +1 for Woolworths. Customer support is amazing, app is amazing and their data allowances are amazing too.

There's new plans coming mid-march and early april for prepaid which will hopefully increase data allowances even more :)

    • Woolworths data speed is slower than boosts. I noticed when I switched from boost to woolies. I think cos boost is full telstra network. Anyone else confirm?

      • What kinds of speeds are you getting with each network?

I'm still on a grandfathered Telstra Freedom Plus plan. I still have $250 of credit. Even though I can't purchase any apps or movies with it anymore, some ebooks still work, so I'm hesitant to give that up (for now).

      • Definitely different network but I don't think speeds are capped. I doubt it would ever make a difference to general use.

  • -1

It’s only 4g NOT 4gx. NOT FULL TELSTRA NETWORK

    • +3

Thank you. Chat suggested it was full network when I asked before posting. Have modified now pending other feedback.

      • +1

Chat is correct is the full network

        • +2

Do you please have a link to this so I can update the post. Thanks!

          @tightarse:

          https://community.boost.com.au/t5/Setup-Phone-Support/4GX-ne…

You'll find people on Whirlpool who have been given the same information

        • +3

It's complicated. Originally we worked out that Boost does indeed use the full network despite what their staff say, but now there's a thread discussing network differences where more and more people are saying that two identical devices, one with a Telstra sim and one with a Boost sim are having coverage differences.

With every new report of people swapping their telstra sim with a boost sim and suddenly losing coverage, It's starting to look more and more like boost might not have full coverage after all, but there's not enough info to definitely say that yet.

    • +4

      Wrong.

Boost uses the full Telstra network.

You DO get 4GX coverage, but it is capped at 50mpbs

      • +1

Also wrong, I've gotten close to 300mbps on Boost.

Unless you're suggesting that 50mbps is on 700mhz only, in which case that won't affect most people because even a lot of smaller regional towns have more than just 700mhz.

        • I can only go by what someone was told by boost.
Is 700mhz what Telstra call 4GX? If it is then that's what I meant

          See here
          https://community.boost.com.au/t5/Setup-Phone-Support/4GX-ne…

The CIS also states they use 700 MHz for 4g

          LTE band 3 (1800MHz) and band 28 (700MHz) for 4G access.
          http://boost.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/CIS_131017.pd…

Someone needs to get boost to update this page
          https://community.boost.com.au/t5/Setup-Phone-Support-Knowle…

        • +1

@spaceflight: Nobody actually knows what Telstra calls 4GX aside from Telstra themselves. It SEEMS to be 700mhz, but it could also be something more complex than that (MIMO or 256QAM within their 700mhz network). It's definitely related to 700mhz.

It's entirely possible that they do cap 700mhz to 50mbps, but as mentioned even small towns have 1800mhz, and you won't find a city or big urban area without 2600mhz on top of the other two bands, so the 700mhz cap really doesn't make that much of a difference unless they live close to town in a really rural area and are lucky enough to have a non congested tower that can actually do more than 50mbps.

  • Does the full month cycle of Auto-recharge work on amaysim as well? Anyone?

  • So will my next auto recharge pick up this offer or do I need to go through all this again to opt into this offer? It was quite annoying last time setting up the auto recharge again

    • +1

      Probably need to opt in

    • -2

So will my next auto recharge pick up this offer

      Yes

      • +3

I don't think this is correct. I believe you need to opt in to this new plan via #111#, otherwise you remain on the previous offer until such time as you do opt in.

      • Yeah you have to contact them to change to the new offer.

  • +13

Oh what! No extra 113Mb to use every second hour of Saturdays that land on an odd day of the month and 138Mb of extra data to use on Sundays when it is not raining assuming the name of the month contains no more characters than the date the previous full moon fell on?!

    • I thought 1GB extra on weekends wasn't that hard to understand, but maybe I'm simple minded and missed some nuance…

      • +1

No no you're right, it's not complex. But advertising the plan as "9Gb*

*5Gb plus 1Gb on weekends (whatever the actual numbers were)

Is just crap misleading (near false) advertising. ^It says 'up to' in front of it, honest, just real small and in a whiteish font.

  • +1

Anyone know a plan that does $10/month 1GB with unlimited calls and texts? Hopefully Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone network?

    • Ovo would probably get you 150 minutes a month, which is not quite what you are after. Optus, Telstra and Vodafone are the only networks available until TPG uses its spectrum.

      • 150 minutes is fine. Will look it up.

        • +1

Kogan is officially $16.90p/m with 2gb data and unlimited calls, but they frequently have discounted plans on offer. Keep an eye out, as I think I paid close to $11p/m for my mum when I paid for 12 months.

    • Amaysim, kogan

      • Yeah. Might use that until they do another 6 month deal. That 6 month deal is bloody too good to be true. $20 for 6 months.

    • Kogan is 30 days, Amaysim is 28.

If you're keen on (part of) Telstra, Lycamobile is also $10 (28 days).

    • +2

Jeenee Mobile does unlimited calls/SMS and 1GB data for $9.90/month, no contract. Uses Optus network and your data allocation increases as a loyalty bonus over time.

      https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/sim-packs/

      • Yeah but don't jeenee charge 10 bux for the sim /set up fee?

    • +1

      Amaysim. Optus network.

  • “Note: $40 is for 28 days, but choosing the auto-recharge option gives you the full month each time as recharge is set for the same day each month.”

How does this work, does it simply give you two/three extra days for free?

Does it also work for any of the other 28 day recharges? I always do a manual recharge, I didn’t realise there was better value in the auto recharge.

    • +1

You simply add a credit card to your Boost account and select a recharge day (eg. 15th). Auto-recharge then withdraws the monthly amount from your credit card on the same day of each month ie. March 15th, April 15th, May 15th etc.

      • +5

Select 31st of the month - only pay 7x per year #quickmaths

        • +1

          Alas, they're one step ahead:

If this date is day 29, 30 or 31, your recharge will be processed on the last day of the month for those shorter months

  • Do they do a shared data plan?

  • I'm so crunk for this deal.

  • What about international roaming? Does it allow Telstra add on packs?

    • I know the add on packs are terrible value but do they even work? I couldn't get data in the Netherlands or Belgium even though I had good coverage.

  • Does anybody know if there is any benefits sticking to the old plans ( UNLTD® or UNTLD Plus™)?
The only +ve I can see is the 30day auto recharge

    • Looks like the auto-recharge remains with this one too?

  • Free extra data-sharing sim possible on this plan?

  • +2

Worth noting that the $20 plan now has unlimited calls. That's a nice improvement on the 100mins that came with the old ULTRA plan.

    • +1

Yeah not much “ULTRA” about 100mins.

  • +2

Just gotta wait for a $20 for the $40 Sim deal that they run and I'll be jumping straight to this.

After just getting back from holidays in Tassie with my wife's phone on full Telstra and mine on aldi with Telstra wholesale, the full Telstra was night and day better while we were travelling around. So many times she had enough service to use internet where I had nothing at all. Identical phones.

  • Does anyone know how you can change to the new offer as an existing as an existing customer? The instructions say to go to My Offer in the app, but that doesn't give you an option to change the offer. Maybe it's not available for existing customers yet…

    • +1

I changed at care.boost.com.au on the phone. I don't have the app (because I'm one of the 7 people left in the world with a Windows phone).
Be aware that if you change, you lose your current credit / recharge, so don't change until the end of your recharge cycle. Change the day before (mine was today and I got charged for my existing $30 recharge plus the new $20 recharge and had to get the $30 credited on live chat).

      • Thanks for the info — it seems I was confused, my current offer is the "Boost Anytime Plus" $30 for 4GB, but the new offer seems to be called exactly the same thing, just with more data etc. So I assume I don't have to do anything, and when I auto-recharge for $30 next month it'll automatically give me 5GB instead of my old 4GB data allowance.

    • +1

When I go to my offer it shows my current offer (undltd plus) and then also has change offer with the details of the anytime plus.

  • Tempted to switch from Aldi so i can use VoWifi due to having very poor reception inside my house

  • +1

I’m an existing Boost customer, recharged $40 the day before this deal came out. I gave them a call and whilst they couldn’t give me the 15GB they did add 5GB to this month, so not bad.

    • I am sooo confused sorry 🙃 I am a existing $40 customer is the new deal better than last one?, with weekend data and do you need to choose to use it ? And is 15gb is that a use for the hole month tried ringing them but they didn't answer.

  • +1

    Does Boost support:

    • Voice Over WiFi?
    • Access to Telstra Thanks? ($12 movie tickets)?
  • "DATA HUNGRY? GET MORE THAN A MOUTHFUL WITH EVERY RECHARGE NOW WITH MORE DATA…"

Wow. Can they say that? Surely thats falls advertising?

I'm on the old $30 plan. 4gb data plus 1gb every weekend. That's up to 7gb vs the 5gb they are now offering.
