        • @Scab: something something blaa blaa bla

  • Does anyone have this and know if the stick can be detached and added onto the cordless versions? I bought the car kit one a while back and wouldn't mind the extension for $49.

Edit: Completely mistook this for a Dyson. Still a slight chance there might be compatibility?

    • +2

      No chance.

If you want the Dyson wand you can buy them on eBay.

For reference, the long discontinued Dyson DC35 that target and aldi were flogging for ~$200 a couple of months ago are 120,000rpm

      • Was that Any good??

        • For targets $199 price yes.. not aldis $279 price.

The V6 is only marginally better and the real upgrade is the V8.. but not for $500+

Awaiting Kogan to market Tesla electric vehicle types of cars with a range of 20 metres via power cord ;)

  • can anyone pls provide a honest review? i moved to a new place and looking for a vacuum cleaner. dnt wanna spend too much. this looks good.

    • +1

It’s honeslty highly likely to be a piece of crp is my guess, which is why they are being cleared out by Kogan.

If I want something cheap at least try it out first, lots of department store reviews online for cheap ones from big w etc, or you can head in a godfreys where they still let you test products first.

      • +3

I have Dyson cordless Dc35 and this Kogan corded.

For general usage,(less than 20minfor each Vaccum clean ) here is my real usage and comments

        Dyson
        Used inside house and bedrooms
More powerful and easy to carry around.
Need to hold down red trigger to operate the vacuum work
        $$$$$
        Can hang on the wall
        More accessories for different situations

        Kogan
        Used inside garage after works
Less power than Dysonbut still do the good job
Single button switch on or off and no need to hold down
        $$
Motor is getting hot after 10 min run
Easy to clean and dumb the rubbish
        No hanger

        Hope this helps.

        • +1

Hang on - this is less powerful than the cordless DC35 which is pretty modest in its abilities in the Dyson line up - this Kogan machine sounds like landfill fodder.

        • @jason101:
Maybe those landfills could do with a clean

    • +1

Bang for buck, nothing beats the $89 Kmart standup vacuum (referred to as the vacuum better than a dyson).. just have to check when it ninjas back in to stock.

      • Do you have any details of this vac?

There was one at big w that had great reviews for 30 bucks that looked like an Electrolux cordless rip off but was corded, will see if I can find it… Actually @wombat1955 found it below

        https://www.bigw.com.au/product/contempo-2-in-1-stick-handhe…

      • +1

Yep as per link from taco.

Having tested it with the equivalent corded Dyson, the big difference is in the brush head where the design is spun by motor, whereas the Kmart one has more torque being direct belt driven off the compressor motor… and can really shred up old carpet I you set the head height too close to carpet.

I’ll post up a pic from last year… after vacuuming with a Dyson…

This Kogan vacuum is rubbish (tested). It only seems good if you’ve never had a good vac as a benchmark

        EDIT
        Here’s the pic https://drive.google.com/open?id=1AYB5uqsNS9xqO5a80IiAEwmKRA…

As you can see, above the dust is full of compressed carpet fibres.

        • Do you mean the dyson brush spins off the suction only? Interested to see if anyone has reviewed or posted about this vac before?

        • +1

          @Jackson:

No, Dysons have a dedicated dc motor to spin the brush head, which stop when too much load/resistance is applied. Kmart vac keeps going because they are belt driven from compressor

      • +1

I have the Kmart 1200w upright vacuum as well, the best vacuum I have ever owned.

I have a large high pile rug in the lounge which was looking awful so I was going to drag it outside and wash with a pressure washer, but one use of the kmart vacuum and it looked brand new again.

It took months for me to get my hands on one, I checked daily for it to be in stock, and whenever it was I went straight to kmart to find out it had already sold out several times.

To buy go for the online purchase, check every day and as soon as it appears as available, purchase straight away, it costs an extra $13.00 for delivery but it is worth it.

You're unlikely to buy instore, unless you're very lucky, as staff have said it always sells out within hours of being placed on shelf due to all of the publicity.

        • Where is this publicity?

        • +1

          @Jackson: Google: kmart dyson

      • Will that ever be in sick again though?

    • +1

We have Hoover Handy Wonder which looks similar, have similar price and also corded. It's pretty useless. The biggest annoyance is that you have to empty the canister every 5 minutes, otherwise it loses suction significantly. And emptying canister is more than just pushing a button while holding it over the trash bin - no, you have to disassemble it and get rid of the dust and debris blocking the vents, with your fingers. The suction is pretty poor from the beginning - don't expect to deep clean your carpet with this thing, but it could be okay for small jobs like removal of spider webs or quick cleaning inside the car. It's also very noisy and tend to switch off automatically when overheating. It's overheating when the vents are blocked with dust, so you better empty it often. Anyway, ours is just collecting dust in the garage since we bought a nice oldschool commercial vacuum with paper bags ;)

  • Thanks OP, just got one. I have been lending an original cordless Dyson vaccum from my mate - can't be F'd paying several hundred dollars. A knock off will have to do :P

    • This one has a cord though!

      • Correct. But I think I'll manage to plug it into the wall ;)

        • +2

the suction is not that good either. I have this and it's rubbish compared to the Dyson, you really are wasting your money.

  • +2

The reason why these are cheap is because they have no batteries and required to be plugged in all the time. People are probably up voting comparing this with a Dyson in mind lol

    • No the reason they are cheap is because they have 1/3 the rpm of a dyson.. possibly translating to 1/3 power also…

  • +2

I have this one from BigW and it is surprisingly good for a $29 vacuum. Lots of good reviews too.

    • Interesting, I might pick that up this evening when I get off work!

    • I have the same, started as a temp vac for indoor and now it’s used on my car. Crazy suction, good accessories and a bonus filter, can’t go wrong!

    • +1

So I casually picked one up just then on my way home. Plenty of stock left at Big W Top Ryde

Looks and specs are very similar the Contempo model from Big W that I mentioned above.

      • Great. The Contempo comes with a spare filter too, so better value.

Any idea how long is the cord? There are a couple of reviews saying it is too short, but BIG W don't state how long it is.

        Thanks.

        • +1

It's 5m, so good for small rooms or you might need an extension.

        • +1

Don't buy it, the filter is so unique that i could found any replacement. Yes it came with a spare one but it will break after around 30 times of use, give u total of 60 times of vacuums then u have to throw it away, not that good in value.

        • @samelight:

          Thanks for the heads up.

If a vacuum broke within 60 uses I'd be taking it back for a warranty refund. That's not fit for purpose.

        • @surethang:
Technically its not broken, u just need a new filter to keep the suction force.
Contempo made their vac filter in a very unique shape, u cannot use any other brand's filter and Contempo not selling any filters themself, so is kind of forcing you to buy a new vac.

        • @samelight:

Makes me wonder if there are laws requiring the reasonable supply of consumable parts in Australia.

Either way, if a vacuum cannot be used after 60 uses, it means its design is not fit for purpose. Under Australian consumer law, a customer is legally able to get a refund… or replacement or repair (if applicable), and it's the customer's choice

        • @samelight:

Looks like you're not alone. Lots of people are frustrated at not being able to get replacement filters for the Big W Contempo 2 in 1 Stick/Handheld Vacuum. And no response from Big W.

          https://www.facebook.com/BIGWaustralia/posts/125399948795945…

        • +1

          @surethang:

I've been using mine once a week for almost a year now and have yet to use the spare filter. They are super easy to clean and re-use. Even if I only get one year out of each filter, that's 2 years of use for only $29.. If you look at the Kogan corded stick vacuum mentioned above, replacement filters are $19, which would make the total purchase $68. I can buy 2 Contempo units for $10 less and theoretically have 3 spare filters and a spare vacuum! Unfortunately, when my vacuum is of no more use, it will be destined to become more landfill and I will buy another one.

    • Thanks, got one of those, free Delivery with Shipster.

    • woah you can do tables in comments?!

  • +1

Have a cordless one at work, it's absolute rubbish. Used in a small office area to tidy up and barely picks up anything

    • +1

So you didn't pick up at work?

  • This doesn't even compare to a Dyson (even though they have blatantly copied the look and colour scheme). Do yourself a favour and spend the extra money on a Dyson cordless. You won't regret it. This is a long term purchase and something you will use on a regular basis.

  • +1

Why would anyone want a corded handheld vacuum?

    • Not everyone can afford the cord free version but likes to keep up with trends

  • +1

I have one of these and would not recommend it. Just in the first use, the extension rod started collapsing because of cheap plastic and suction is pretty bad as well.

  • Please 'stick' with Dyson guys. This vac does sux.

  • This Kogan appears to be a rebadged Airflo that I bought on this deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260043
But with plastic wands instead of metal. Top of motor casing moulded the same, ditto the clips, accessories and non-turbo head.

That being the case, my experience is as most of the comments above. Sounds like a jet, the suction is only decent in shorty mode. Our Chinese Nilfisk barrel does the same job in 1/5 the time. Yes, I compared!

This thread is 10/10! Actually laughed out loud at the early comments! :’)
