  • Hello,

Any current user or previous users can comment on phone performance, camera quality, processor performance and battery life please!!!!Been looking for a phone for while thought i might as well grab this…..much appreciated…..

I'd suggest avoiding this one. Short battery life, runs hot, camera lacking detail.

      • Do you reckon the Sony XZ is on another level?

        • It is, but still short battery life, and camera still lacking detail. Not running as hot though…

        • @clse945111: Thanks. I guess it is worth it to wait for XZ2

@sky blu: Sony on Ebay are selling the Sony XZ Premium refurb for $600 (you only get a 12mth warranty)

        • @supabrudda:

XZ is GREAT after the current android 8 update, there was a period of BAD time during all android 7 firmware.

XZ premium should be great too.

    • Get the HTC U Ultra on eBay instead, similarly priced but newer processor and better camera.

    • It's an older device running the slightly-outdated Snapdragon 810, performance is sufficient for most people but it's not very power efficient compared to the newer chips. The SD810 runs pretty hot and is notorious for heat throttling problems, especially on phones that don't dissipate enough heat.

It's an obsolete model, and it doesn't seem to be getting Oreo updates. https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz5premium/kb/…

    • This was my daily phone circa Feb 2017.

Camera was great back then but since using the Pixel XL and the 2XL, it cannot compare. Photograph viewing, however, is better because the Sony colour tuning is just the right amount of saturation bias for me.

Battery life was approximately 40 hours on heavy use. Almost able to go through a second day if I forget to charge.

It died after 14 months of service due to a small crack on the rear glass and subsequent water ingress. I do spend significant amounts of time in the salt.

      • Indeed the battery life and heat problems are people parroting stuff they've read that applies to other devices.

My Z5P also just suddenly died, no explanation.

        • I thought it was one of the best designed phone I had. The technical specs may not have been the best but the button was in the right place and the screen size was perfect.

Either way, it drowned in choppy seas and rainy weather. Cause if death was pretty clear.

My z5 would run so hot that at times the camera would shut down in the middle of recording a video, and would take a few minutes to cool down. Lots of missed opportunities due to the overheating

    • I have this, spec wise it has a large battery but it rarely lasts. My 40 minute commute (light browsing + spotify) used about 20% battery. It runs hot and especially summer, its gets really sluggish as it throttles down to keep temp in check, the back gets hot to the touch. Other than that, Sony coudn't be stuffed to even update the Australian models to android 7.1.1 and mine been on 7.0 (checked with Sony on their forums, as of writing Android 7.0 is the latest for Aus). Fingerprint scanner does not work half the time, it has higher chance of working if u wipe your finger and sensor before trying but with that time, may as well use pin. Camera is ok, but does not compare to today's flagship. I've been a loyal fan of sony devices (which was why I bought this when it was released) but I think this would be my last sony phone. Sony has their annoying apps like "What's new" that you cant remove(listed as system app, so cant disable either) and the worst part is it keep giving you ads in notification.

$349 at DWI using GOOG10 incl standard shipping ($0.00). Not worth the buy here unfortunately.

$35 to get Aus stock and Aus warranty and potential GST refund on TRS, not worth it for you?

      • -1

If you buy from DWI you are still protect under consumer law not to mention you can still get TRS but at the same time you still have to fork out the money for an international flight within 3 months of the buy ? don't quote me on the exact time frame. Regardless this is not a true deal, I found my price within a few minutes of searching. You could probably find cheaper if you tried else where.

        • are you sure? They're based in HK, so Ausralian consumer law doesn't cover them.

Q: What is the DWI warranty terms?
A: DWI provides the In House Warranty by DWI Hong Kong for 12 months from the date of invoice.

          Do they apply GST?

      • To help prove my point. $337 at eglobal incl economy express shipping using the code (WELCOME).

One of my friends has one and it was fine until he updated to Nougat. Sony have looked at it twice and won't do anything about it. Constant reboots, but safe mode works which indicates a problem with the bloatware (he's tried factory reset with no extra apps).

  • Here's a review from Android authority

  • lg g5 better there are deals similar in ebay

  • I currently have had this phone for about two days (passed down from a mate as my g5 plus fell in the pool while i was rescuing my son). It's a very pretty but slippery phone. Phone gets extremely hot very easily and is a bit buggy (common problems include mic stops working during calls + headphone jack breaking down) so based on those reasons I would not recommend this phone. The camera is ok ( i like the camera button). Performance wise it runs quite quickly.

  • This phone has bragging rights as the first mobile to have a 4K screen.
unfortunately it is let down by the hot CPU SD810 and it came out at a time when there simply wasn't that much 4K content.
just not worth your money in 2018.

    • There is tonnes of 4k content what are you talking about.

      YouTube has plenty.

      • it funny I'm looking t the Xperia XZ Premium and I see all the reviews bagging it for 4k as "t's just another useless feature that you wont use, because there is none" Even back in July there was a fair bit of 4k content (especially on Youtube - something people tend to use on their phone), but it's not like 4K isn't something that isn't coming for another 5yrs. It's a really bizarre comment especially from people in the tech industry. It'd be like when 4G was getting rolled out across the country & reviewers say, why do you want 4g, you can't use it much yet.

        • Just journalism fluff imho to generate discussion and controversy I mean look at us now we are talking about it and might even make some people want to do it I.e make 4k videos and content.
