Got it from Telstra Subiaco. $59 with earphones and Google Home Mini. Live chat also honored and gave me $10 off for a total of $49 per month. Didn't try for the extra 5GB as I don't really run out and not too keen on pushing live chat even more.

  • Having trouble to sign up for the deal with $10 credit applied, all operators I talked to refused to apply the credit. How do you still get it ? After signed up for the deal ?

    • after signup

Just thought I would share the deal I got in appreciation of this ongoing thread.

I was originally with Telstra on a $49 BYO plan so I was sceptical at first that it would work.

I ported out to Vodafone for a week and tried Telstra chat to get the deal.

After much back and forth I was told I would get the friends and family deal except without the headphones and mini but termination fee would apply.

    • Received bundled Pixel XL 2 with headphones and home mini
    • Requested and received waiver of termination fee of $190 via Live chat
    • Requested and received 5 extra GB for signing up to Telstra
    • Requested and denied (at first) $10 credit but received extra 5gb because my plan was not eligible for $10 credit
    • Requested and received via Live chat $10 credit

    Tldr

I'm now on $49 plan with 25gb data for 24 months
Google pixel xl + home mini + earphones
    Waived termination fee

    Thanks OP and Telstra

    • hi.i have been trying..can you pm reference number.thnx in advance.

    • +1

Lucky you, got 25gb data, think this was definitely the exception.

    • I would also appreciate it if you could PM me the reference number

    • Can I please get the reference number as well ?

    • +3

this is epic, especially the termination fee waive.

    • So how many times did you have to go through live chat to get all this? Do they keep records of 'serial' chatters?

    • Mate no luck either, could I get a reference number. Cheers

      • +3

I too had to jump through many hurdles to get the deal. It does require time, patience and determination

        • $200 JB Hifi Giftcard
        • $49 monthly plan
        • 20GB
        • Google Pixel 2 XL
        • Google Home Mini
        • Earphones

The Telstra consultant even asked me for "my friend's" contact number to verify which plans and discounts he was offered. I simply replied "I'm sorry, I cannot give you my friend's mobile number. It's a private number. As a Telstra customer myself, I also don't want anyone to access my account or details of my plans without my authorisation. I hope you understand where I am coming from."

His reply: Yes of course. I will see what I can do.

        1 minute later

His reply: I have spoken to my Manager and he has approved your 10 dollar discount and Bonus Data.

Just don't take No for an answer. It can be very frustrating at times, the irony that Telstra is in the "Communication" business and yet it seems none of its Departments/Employees are communication with each other. Everyone is saying something different. Keep trying if you are determined to get the bargain deal. Good Luck

        • This, it's a bit of luck but mostly it's staying firm and if you aren't getting any luck with the responder, try another.

In some of the cases I didn't ask for a reference number but I have kept a copy of the transcripts, so pm me if you want to have a read.

        • How'd you get the$200 bonus?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: also interested in the $200 bonus…

I ported in my mobile number at JB Hifi to Telstra's Mobile BYO $49 plan + 25GB + $200 JB Hifi Giftcard (see image link) .
Then I contacted Telstra to change my plan to get the free Google Pixel 2 XL, Google Home Mini, Earphones, -$10 monthly discount and +5GB monthly data bonus and just kept my $200 JB Hifi Giftcard.

        • @Sydney11: Nice work! But you would now be on a 24 month contract right?

        • @Sydney11: oh bit risky lol. Was it easy to do?

        • @John Kimble:
I believe so. Yes I "ought" to be on a 24 months contract Family and Friends $49 plan.
But I checked my Plan on MyAccount Online, it's still showing 12 months contract $59 plan….. idk, maybe it will get updated next month, when the actual bills arrives.

With Telstra, it's hard to get a straight answer. The answer changes depending on who you speak to at Telstra. Just have to be diligent and keep all my Transcripts/SMS/Written proof of what has been represented to me to avoid any issues in the near future.

        • @Sydney11: mate, if you stay on 12 months that would be insane (moreso).

        • +1

          @TarquinOliverNimrod:
With Telstra, nothing is ever Easy.

To reduce my risks, I just have a written transcript from a Telstra representative clearly stating that I will be able to upgrade my plan from JB Hifi Mobile BYO $49 25GB plan to Telstra Family and Friends $59 plans includes a Google Pixel XL 2 64GB, Google Mini Home and Earphones at no additional fees whatsoever. I got the -$10 discount and +5GB data bonus separately.

Then it's just a matter of sticking to your guns and knowing what you are worth as a customer. Viola! All the "No" that Telstra will throw at you will turn into "Yes"

          @Sydney11:

Hi Sydney11, could you please kindly pm a written transcript for upgrade things to me? Many thanks!!

and btw how you get the pixel xl 2 and google mini ? I tried to ask Telstra online chat but they keep saying they don't have any stock and asked me to go to store to get it. cheers.

Sent. Dealing with Telstra, is not for the faint hearted. It takes time, patience and determination. Depends on how badly you want this bargain? If you really want it, then just keep trying.

        • @Mewinneryay: If you could PM the transcript that would be great :)

        • @Sydney11:
If you could also PM m Sydney11 that would be much appreciated! :) Seems they're clueing onto this

        • @robert220:
Doesn't seem to allow me to "Start a Private Conversation with you" (Private Message). Check your settings. Did you tick the box to "Allow private messages"?

"Check this box to allow users to initiate private conversations with you. This does not affect existing conversations."

        • @Sydney11:
Sorry, I have that enabled now if you could send through that would be great! Cheers

        • +1

          Thanks for the great idea!

I was also able to get this deal, but as you said it took a bit of convincing. In the end I was able to get the deal that I wanted from LiveChat. I took that into the store and went from there (going to JB first, then Telstra later that day). Telstra staff were not too thrilled but eventually put it through, JB HiFi were consistently great though.

One minor headache was that the Telstra system wouldn't put the $10 discount through in the same transaction as the phone and plan. They said they'd do this later. If they don't, I can go back later. Expecting that my first 1 or 2 bills will be a mess. Fortunately I got a copy of the signed contract at $49, even if the system didn't accept it.

          Again, killer idea Sydney11.

        • @MrBlueSky: luck you mate, I went to a Telstra store after sign up a 49 byo plan in jbhifi in Marion fo SA, they said they don't do it anymore….btw which store you got it ? any chance in SA? lol. thanks for sharing anyway.

Hi MrBlueSky, can you explain how this works? Do you simply carry in the transcript into a store and say 'this is what I was offered online, during chat, please provide me this offer?"

Does it work in JB and in Telstra store?

If so, could you please PM me the transcript?

Really trying hard to get this deal.

          Cheers!

        • @Kkuba: PM Sent.

Long story short, yes just take the transcript in. I printed the version from my Gmail. This had fancier formating than my backup copy-paste version. You'd probably have to make your own transcript as I doubt they'd honour mine. I gave you some tips on what to aim for though :)

FWIW it seems like they might have cracked down since, based on the above. Best of luck though!

Thanks to the community - got my $49 today!

  • +2

Winner - I'm now on $49 plan with 25gb data for 24 months
Google pixel xl + home mini + earphones…

    • Well done! How many live chats did it take?

      • 5-6 chat and 2-3 calls…

        • Lol that's some serious effort!

    • How did you make it from 15GB to 25GB. (Most on here only get a 5GB bonus)

      • I have existing Telstra home phone bundle hence extra 5gig.

        • did u ask for 5gb because your home phone bundle separately?

i too have telstra home phone and broadband.

    • Has your data actually reflected as 25GB? 3 different operators said I would get 25GB now they are back tracking on all the live chats saying they cant give it to me….

      • Yeah it does.

  • I can't seem to get anyone on chat to agree with this. anyone got a transcript?

    • See above. Some people already have accounts with telstra which entitles them apparently to more data.
I think the best you can hope for is a $10 credit per month and an extra 5gb of data.
As mentioned earlier, speak to billing through the online chat and get it confirmed in writing by saving your chat log, that you will get the $10 credit applied AFTER signing up to the $59 per month deal. Once you have the deal you will have a reference number you can give to the billing department through online chat. Then you will likely be able to get the $10 credit applied. Remember though, you are dealing with telstra… your outcome may vary

      • That's what I'm finding - I've only done three chats so far, but I can't seem to find anyone even willing to agree to the $10 credit - I've not even bothered asking about data yet.

    • First rep offered me the $10 straight away, I just asked for "port in bonuses".
Rep claimed it was either the $10 discount or the 5GB bonus, but trying a different route for that.

      • Edit: first phone rep fixed up my 5GB (on all services, but shared on the two Go plans I ported in today). 30min call.

  • Does anyone know if this deal is valid to a certain date.
Im looking to port out my work number to a pre-paid sim and then back to Telstra on this plan.

I just dont want the deal to disappear over the next 2 weeks it will take to port out and then back

    • 30th April. It says at the top also.

So many conflicting reports of porting eligibility and time frames it's not funny!

    • 30th of April it said instore

    • Ah perfect.

      Thanks guys.

I better get on that port out straight away then :)

      • Better do it quick- according to the shop I bought it from it's also subject to stock being available.

  • Is the google pixel locked to Telstra network and how much can it be sold for ? Also does the plan include calls to india ?

    • no, and no international calls included either

      • The $79 plan has international calling included. But its way more expensive in the end :D

  • Had a really positive chat with Shweta through the online chat. Confirmed that $10 port in credit would apply to this particular deal. Has provided me with a reference number. Once I get my phones tomorrow and the credit applied, Ill share the reference number with you all

  • +2

Was able to get $49 and 25GB as well.
Instore was unable to apply the $10 discount however applied 5GB data.
Went home armed with my earlier live chat that promised $10 discount and 5GB data…
Jumped on live chat and they applied the $10 discount and additional 5GB data making it 25GB data.
Yet to reflect on my data, showing 20GB but was told will be 25GB within 24 hours.
Think this is the best route to confuse Telstra into giving you the 25GB if you don't have an additional service.
You're only meant to have 25GB if you have another Telstra Service…

  • i just chatted to Telstra and am told the plan ended in feb how did u guys get it tips please ?

    • It's in store only at JB Hi-Fi. Did you even read it?

      • thanks mate whats the exact JB Hi-Fi deal

        • +1

Towards the top of this page you will see "JB Hi-Fi - In Store (Details here - thanks nismo)". Click on the Details here link.

  • is the mobile locked and how much can i expect on selling it ?

    • Unlocked. Going for approx $1000 but depends on buyer n seller

  • Inquired about the $10 discount on this plan to get a transcript to take in store. This is what I got instead. They are obviously cottoning on to this and are being instructed on how to respond. I don't want to sign up to a contract and have the discount taken off later down the line.

Thank you for bringing this up with us. The porting in discount of $10 is not eligible on the Family and Friends plan for the Pixel 2 XL 64GB.

It is a fixed price of $59/month with 15GB data allowance, unlimited calls and sms within AUS for 24 months term

And the offer is only for PORT IN Customers.

The Port In Discount of $10 is only applicable for Large and Higher Go Mobile PLUS Plan with Device repayment option.

I understand you heard that news, however, anything you hear outside our Telstra Site are not legitimate

And if someone get the discount, I'd also like to inform you that we have a dedicated team who monitors the provisioning of the order to ensure these incompatible credits aren’t being applied

He will be contacted by the provisioning team about the removal of the incompatible credits that was applied on the account.

    • Yep, I signed up a plan and got discount and data applied no worries. The next day I got a 2nd plan, but online chat told me it cannot be applied to my new plan.

After a while of arguing and telling him I signed up the same deal the day before, he finally allowed me to get it.

  • Sorry if this has been asked before, but what's the order to do this in? I'm not a Telstra customer.

    Is it:
    1. Buy bundle from JB, then get on Telstra chat (billing right?) to ask for the $10 and 5GB?
    or
    2. Ask about $10 and 5GB on Telstra chat, then take that transcript in to JB??

Again sorry if it's been outlined somewhere, I've trawled through 17 pages of comments and it's still not clear to me.

    • +3

Buy in store, then go to online chat and speak to the billing department. Ask first if they have any port in deals. Try not to mention what plan you got and just give them relevant numbers like an order number. They're starting to cotton on

  • Bite the bullet and signed up for the deal. However, I got difficult with online chat to get either $10 or 5GB. Seems like they're all alerted now. Anyone has any luck recently ?

    • Keep trying..at the end call their billing team mentioning that $10 credit is available for port in customer and lots of people are getting it…if they don't budge, demand to speak with complaint manager..but yes this is long process ….

    • I got the phone from JB. Just got off first attempt with Telstra chat and got knocked back for the $10 discount, they're definitely giving hard "NO's". They had a scripted response about the F&F Go Mobile plan being a premium something or other and said system wouldn't let them do it. I will try again tomorrow.

I did however get 5GB data just straight up saying "how about 5GB extra data then". He must've felt sorry for me after giving the discount to countless others before me.

  • Is the JB $200 voucher still available and any idea how to make most of it or encase it ?

    • Encase it?

      • Yeah man, if you sell the phone package for $1000, with the$200 voucher you're essentially making a profit from this deal. Gotta put it up on the wall.

  • Sorry En cash got spell checked to encase
