  • Got the bundle 2days ago. Neglected to check before I bought it and didn't get the 200 dollar jb voucher. Tried calling voice chat three times on different days, got the $10 discount but two reps checked my account and saw the discount so they won't give me the 5gb bonus data

    • +4

Heres my tip for getting the 5gb data.

Go to the online chat and say something like this:

"I signed up to telstra recently and was told in store by the sales rep that I would be eligible for 5gb bonus data on this account. I found later that the 5gb had not been applied to my account. I then spoke to someone through the online chat to follow up. They said they would give me the 5gb, but I am still yet to see it"

Telstra might reply by asking for a reference number.

You should reply with "They didn't provide me with a reference number, which I find very unprofessional. Its disappointing that after signing up with Telstra, no one can seem to follow through with that they would say they would do. Could you please apply the 5gb data to my account today?"

I had this conversation a couple of times for my account and my wifes account and managed to get the 5gb both times.

I hope you sleep well in your bed of lies sandman87

        • +7

I sleep well knowing I wont be paying for extra data for the next two years :)

        • He's not called the sandman for nothing.

      • Thanks @sandman87. Will try it out. Any time of day youve tried it? I seem to be getting reps from the Philippines, and they always seem to say i cant have both.

        • +2

If you are connected to Telstra representatives from The Phillipines then you are going about it wrong, you need to get on Telstra Live Chat 24/7. It should connect you to a Telstra Representative in India (Pune Disctrict, Chennai City, etc…)

        • @Sydney11: can you give me a step by step on which tabs to get on the chat

        • @Sydney11: noo. the rep is asking for a transcript

        • @simouny21:
Transcript sent. I suggest you read some of the previous comments made on Ozbargain. It might help you decide which bargain deal you are after.

        • @Sydney11:
Thank you for the infomation you provided.
I signed up DEAL ONE today at JB but had trouble with upgrading plan in Telstra stores.
Could you please send me a transcript? Thanks!!

        • @a4033:
Doesn't seem to allow me to "Start a Private Conversation with you" (Private Message). Check your settings. Did you tick the box to "Allow private messages"?

"Check this box to allow users to initiate private conversations with you. This does not affect existing conversations."

        • @Sydney11:
          Ticked. =)

        • +2

          @a4033:
Sent. I would recommend contacting Telstra Chat instead of Telstra Stores to upgrade from DEAL ONE to DEAL TWO. Make sure you have collected your $200 Giftcard from JB Hifi before you upgrade.

This is what my Order looks like:
          - Completed because I already received the phone
          - Not sure why $10 discount is not reflected here. But I have spoken to Telstra several times and received confirmation that it has been applied or will be applied when the bill comes, if not, I will just contact again when the times comes to rectify their mistake
          - Ignore the Delivery Fee (it's free)
          - Notice that the Telstra rep Remove Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan $59 and Add Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan - $59. Both plans have the same name (i.e. they are related and part of the same plan family). This is where you can use this clause in the contract to "Change/Upgrade" your Plan ANYTIME at NO EXTRA COST

          https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/mobiles-tablets/plans/how-do-i-change-my-mobile-plan

How do I change my mobile plan?
If you are going over your plan allowance each month you can change between the same plan family anytime at no extra cost, but you cannot go below the spend limit you are contracted for.

          Completed
Add 5GB Multi-Product Bonus Data Share
          Add Delivery Fee
          Add Device Payment Contract
          Add Discounted Device Payment
Add Family and Friends BYO Plans
Add Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan - $59
Add Google Pixel 2 XL 64GB
Add New Phone and Tablet Feeling
          Add Service Contract 24 Months

Remove 10GB Mobile Data Share Bonus - Until Recontract
Remove Go Mobile Plus Additional Service $10 Credit - Until Recontract
Remove Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan $59
Remove Go Mobile Plus BYO Plans 09-2017
          Remove Service Contract 12 Months

        • @Sydney11:

Was told the $49 will not reflect on the first bill and only on the second on wards…

  • Any advice on this I want to upgrade to pixel deal from jb deal but they want to charge termination fees

  • Signed up today at Telstra on Bourke St, Melb CBD. Ported from Voda. Store rep couldn't give me the 5G bonus data but I got the Pixel 2XL, Google mini and headphones too. Came home and did online chat and the first person I spoke to agreed to the $10 port in credit. I then asked if I was also eligible for the 5G bonus data and they said they'd add it to my account too. Gave me reference numbers for both items and I made sure I saved the transcripts… just incase.

    • Could I possibly get your reference number in pm? I’m stuck on this point. Could you advise the selections at the chat menu?

      • +1

        Hi Ultronexe,

You need to chat with Billing. Sounds like it's luck of the draw as to who you get and who will apply the discounts. The reference number is attached to my Telstra account so I'm not willing to share it sorry. Just keep trying.

When chatting last night, I said my friend had signed up last week and received a $10 port in credit and asked if I could have this too. Response was yes. Then I pushed my luck and said my friend also got the 5G data bonus for new customers and could I have this too. Response was yes. Tried to get lucky one more time and asked about free international calling but the response was $10 per month.

        Good luck.

  • +1

Got it.. Pixel 2 xl 49 per month for 2yr..

    • How?

      • See below post by pandas

      • Don't bother mate, you seem incapable of understanding what you need to do based on your posts…

    1. Live Chat with Telstra, took 3 goes. First rep wasn't willing to give out anything, second was willing to offer 5GB however not the $10 porting in discount, third was willing to offer the $10 porting in discount but not the 5GB, well at least advised me to talk to JB about it. Saved transcript on chat 2 and 3 for the sake of it.
    2. Visited local JB, bought phone; wasn't able to add 5GB as advised by Telstra though.
    3. Got back into the office, Live Chat Billing Add-On; got the $10 porting in discount easy enough but was told no additional 5GB; it was either one of the other.
    4. Live Chat Billing again the next day, requested for and received additional 5GB.

Can't complain so far, I'm sure i wouldn't have been so easy if it had been another telco.

    • +1

Let me guess.. Did you get panda version?

    • where did you actually sign up for the plan?

with telstra live chat or in store with jb hifi?

  • Is there any chance to get an Iphone 8 Plus instead?

  • Anyone here has actually received their bill and had the $10 discount applied?

    • Yes. I received bill 3 working days after I signed up. Discount and bonus data are shown.

    • I also just received my bill for $49 and the Telstra widget displays the full 20 GB of data

  • +1

Just received (will have to wait for a bill for confirmation) the $10 port in credit on the first attempt, just asked politely. If it works that will then be $39/m as I have already received another $10/m as compensation for an issue I had to deal with.

    • @tryagain
$39 per month. That's a great bargain. Best of luck

      • Yep, no complaints about price, customer service is a bit hit and miss though but it's a great deal!

    • Just got it on my wife's as well, first time again. Her's was initially a new service too that we later ported a different number to the new service.

  • Signed up yesterday at jb Hi-Fi and received the 5GB bonus but no credit when I asked yesterday. Went into online chat again today and asked for the credit only and got it straight away.

I was with Vodafone for over 9 years and this time I didn't mention i signed up for $59 friend and family plan if that helps.

Just wondering if you would post and share your Telstra Deal

The standard deal should be as follows: (after the $10 discount and +5GB Bonus Data via Telstra Chat)
    $59-$10=$49 per month
Google Pixel XL 2 64 GB
    Google Home Mini
    Aiaiai Earphones
    15GB+5GB=20GB data
    24 months contract

    1. Did everyone get their -$10 discount and +5GB Bonus data?
    2. Who received the extra $200 Giftcards from JB Hifi?
    3. Who else managed to get an even better bargain? Just wondering what else is Telstra offering? and under what circumstances?

    Thanks in advance

    • talked to Telstra today, they said the deal is ended. please share the transcript. thanks.

      • @davidau16
Doesn't seem to allow me to "Start a Private Conversation with you" (Private Message). Check your settings. Did you tick the box to "Allow private messages"?

"Check this box to allow users to initiate private conversations with you. This does not affect existing conversations."

      1. managed to get the pixel deal via online chat, $10 was given but 5gb refused, earphones and mini not included.
      2. I received this gift card by doing that deal first then upgrading
      3. No additional discounts, i am hesitant to push too much further but i would like the additional items.
      • did get it from Telstra online chat or JB HIFI. Please share the transcript. thanks.

    • I received an email from Telstra about a survey they are conducting: TELSTRA CUSTOMER SERVICE CHARTER

One of the question was quite interesting:

Which of the following features, if any, were offered to you when taking out the new mobile with Telstra?

      1. Telstra Stay Connected Plus - Get a replacement phone if something happens to your phone
      2. Access to a new release rental(s) from Big Pond Movies to use within your first month after registering
      3. FREE 6 month Apple music membership from Telstra
      4. International call and text inclusion (from Australia)
      5. Ability to share data with other devices on a Telstra plan
      6. Option to join Telstra Air (ability to access Wifi via thousands of hotspots across Australia and millions of Fon hotspots overseas)
      7. Each month get 5GB bonus data on your Telstra mobile or mobile broadband plan when you have at least two Telstra plans
      8. Data FREE music streaming for Apple Music (video streaming and non-music content incurs data charges)
      9. Unlimited calls to standard national numbers
      10. International Day Pass which lets you manage your roaming costs when you're overseas by charging you a flat rate for each day you use your service in an eligible country
      11. 200 GB FREE Cloud Storage Subscription
      12. FREE 12 month Foxtel Now Starter Pack(s) subscription from Telstra (data charges apply)
      13. $10 month bolt-on for unlimited calls and texts from Australia to standard International numbers to 10 selected countries
      14. Access to Telstra Thanks (includes cheaper tickets at participating cinemas as well as access to sport events, pre-sale music and art events)
      15. Ability to stream every AFL, AFLW, NRL and Netball games live and data-free this 2018 season

Of course not everything is FREE. And some are automatically offered to every Telstra customers. Nonetheless, would have been nice if the Telstra representative has taken the time to mention about Telstra's current offerings. For the record, I don't recall the Telstra representative mentioned any of these 15 offerings to me.

    Unconfirmed Information
I have been hearing that this promotion is being extended. It has been suggested until July 31st. However, it isn't clear if the new promotion starting May 1st is identical, better or worst than the current deal. Sources are conflicting on the specific details of this upcoming promotion.

Angel at 21:55, Apr 20: The offer is extended until July

Jyoti at 23:01, Apr 20: Just chat back with us after 1st May.
Jyoti at 23:01, Apr 20: This plan will available online after 1st of May.
Jyoti at 23:01, Apr 20: So he can get this plan.
Jyoti at 23:01, Apr 20: You can visit to the Telstra store if you want the same plan now.

But everyone I spoke to mentioned Google Pixel 2 XL, at least the free phone will continued be offered

  • Hey guys wondering if is better do a family plan since my partner has to change her phone. Does it have any benefits?

    • +1

Looks like if both of you move to Telstra, the 5GB bonus would definitely be given and don’t forget the data share. So you will have a combined 40GB data to be used between the both of you. You can probably ask for more data and/or further discount on top of the $10 since you’re bringing over 2 services.

      • So far I just moved my number at jb hifi and tried via chat the phone but both of attendants could upgrade. So now I don't o know what too do keep trying in my one or I'd try my wife on chat with the discount.

        • ask/pm @Sydney11 for a transcript and bring that up with Telstra chat.

  • Ported out to optus prepaid for 2 days then walked into JB hi-fi artamon, no issues getting the deal.

  • So I got the 25GB $49 with Pixel 2 XL 64GB. (Low Risk, Live Chat can add discounts)
Wife got $200 Gift Card with Pixel 2 XL 64GB and 20GB. (High Risk, Could possibly be denied upgrade/cancelling of original contract, Over the phone reps are the only ones that can resolve it. Got passed over to 4 different reps/supervisors. Possibility of JB Hifi Gift Card being cancelled if JB Hifi catches on).

I have since used the $200 Gift Card so that JB Hifi can't cancel.

    • So did you get your phine contract via chat pixel bundle paying the 49/month? How when I ask then before they told me the price is fixed.
Trading get the best deal but so far just the jb hifi gift with any extra.

      • No, followed the directions given a few pages back by going on Live chat then going in store signing up.

  • +2

Ported out to optus and back in with this deal after being with optus for only 2 hours.

Got a conversation on live chat before saying that they will do $10 off for any plan when I port over, will try and get that applied tonight.

  • +1

I ported to the $49 BYO w/$200 JB hi Fi gift card.

I just spoke to a 24/7 live chat asking for the Google Pixel 2 XL $59 deal. They said I can upgrade with no issue but must go in store to have it apply.

I'll give it a go tomorrow

    • I will try that because they said they can try it it is not possible by chat but maybe at store let me know what you get it please.

    • Be careful, I did exactly that order $49 BYO w/ $200 gift card. Spoke to local Telstra store who said they would be unable to do it unless the plan is cancelled first from JB hifi. If you are unsuccessful in store at JB Hifi call sales and ask for a supervisor and to "waive" the termination fee. Who knows you might have someone really helpful at the Telstra Store willing to upgrade you.

      • Just a feedback I got to trying upgrading tried 3 times via chat them they told me to go to store I went also they couldn't help me my last attempt will be another store tomorrow or even call telstra.

        • Try calling Telstra ask to be upgraded. They will have to cancel your order and possibly waive the termination fee for the upgrade. If not try in store, but if you go instore they may tell you to go back to JB Hifi. I think your best bet is using the phone chat. Last resort is complaints sections with Telstra.

    • How'd you go?

      • Terrible!

I've managed to work it out in the end but my god the process was painful.

Firstly, the JB Hi Fi employee lied. She said there was a cooling off period of 24 hrs so if Telstra didn't apply the "upgrade" we would be able to cancel and start again.

Telstra live chat told us to go to the store and get them to upgrade our plan - it's an in-store deal only, and that the store is able too (transcript saved and shown to JB Hi Fi). JB Hi Fi had an employee that was going through some emotional turmoil and kept yelling at my wife and I whilst holding our baby. She even swore at which point I lost my cool. Security was called - laughed at the matter and said that particular employee was a nutter and always acted like a turd.

Manager finally came and had no idea what to do. The original employee who mentioned the cooling off period lied and said she never mentioned it. He subsequently spoke to Telstra and they spoke to us and told us they will call on Monday morning when complaints were open.

We have now ordered the Google Pixel XL via Telstra on the $59 plan and awaiting the handset. They will transfer our number to the new contract and cancel out the BYO $49.

Once activated - I will then request via live chat for the $10 monthly discount.

Hope this helps you out ole mate.

        • So you went in with the intention to scam a $200 gift card, and the employee so happens to incorrectly advise that there is a 'cooling off' period which conveniently fool-proofs your scam? Then lies about it afterward for no personal benefit?

More likely, you panicked when it wasn't going to work and rather than take ownership, you point the finger. The only realistic part of your story is her reaction, which would be understandable.

        • @ESPLTD: i dont scam. i dont need to scam. I've since given the $200 gift card back.

So yeah, salesperson got it wrong. Not the first time a salesperson has got wrong either.

Kudos for Telstra to fixing it

  • +1

Just got the Pixel 2 XL for $49 thanks to @rob220 on page 18.

    • +2

Talk to chat, get them to confirm $10 off and 5gb extra to customer that port. - Save chat
      go get phone
chat online, give them the chat info, get the discount.

I just did this (Saturday for chat, Sat arvo for phone then Sunday for discount)

  • I got the $59 deal (24 months) Google Pixel 2 XL 64GB (Just Black), Google Home Mini (Chalk), AIAIAI Pipe earbuds (w/ mic and 3.5mm) in-store at JB Hi-Fi (all three came together shrink wrapped). Ported over from Optus within minutes.

Went on Telstra online chat the following day to ask for $10 per month discount and got it applied first chat (until recontract). Tried to get 5GB in second chat, but was unsuccessful. Will keep trying for that and international calls.

Didn't go for the $200 voucher then upgrade route because I couldn't get confirmation after 10 or so chats that I could upgrade so it seemed quite risky.

  • How's everyone getting the port in $10 bonus? ive asked about 3 of the reps and all say I can't have it due to it being a special offer.

    Help is appreciated! thanks.

    • +3

      I did it just then:

      1. Go to Telstra online Chat. Choose Mobile on a plan > Bill, Plan or add-ons
      2. An automated bot will initiate the chat, say "I have a billing issue" Write that exactly. Proceed with the prompts and he'll connect you to an operator.
      3. State to the operator "I understand there is a $10 port in bonus for new telstra customers"

If they say yes, say you would like it applied to your plan

Literally just did this for a family member i signed up a few weeks back

      • +1

Did you do it before or after purchasing from JB?

For those who are already at or nearing the end of their patience after multiple attempts and things seems to be getting nowhere, but still wish to proceed with this further. Telstra Complaints process works something like this (would apply to all type of complaints, not just specific to this deal)

    Telstra Store (Australia)
    Telstra Call (Philippines) 13 22 00
Telstra Contact (India) Telstra 24/7 App

If you are not having any luck with those above, you best option is to write a formal complaint to:
    https://say.telstra.com.au/customer/general/forms/Email-Complaint

Be specific, tell them what you wish to complain about. Your case is strengthen especially if you have evidence that you have been told by (Name of Telstra employee, date/time of conversation or if you have Telstra Employee number D-XXXXXX). Example: Person A from Telstra Chat told me on 20th April 9pm AEST that I am entitled to a $10 discount on my plan but then the other day Person B from Telstra Chat on 22nd April 1pm AEST refused to apply a $10 discount to my account and told me to visit a Telstra Store. Just do your best and put your complaint in writing

There is a section where you can specifically state what outcome do you wish from this complaint

A case manager will be assigned to you within five working days. Instead of you contacting Telstra, he/she will contact you and help resolve your complaints

The case manager will be from Escalation Complaints & Resolution Team in the Phillipines. They are generally more professional, speaks fluent English, aims to resolve any customer complaints and uphold a higher customer service standard

You will be given a 1800 Toll free number with a 4 digit pin to cut queue and get in touch with your assigned case manager should the need arise and avoid having to repeat yet again your situation and frustration to anyone else in Telstra

In the event your case manager is unable to resolve your complaints to your satisfaction. He will close the case and mark it as "dissatisfied".

If you ended your last conversation with your case manager on a bad note, he might not send you an email on your options should you wish to pursue it further (he/she is obliged to by procedure to send you an email explaining how you can proceed further)

Then, you contact Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman Judi Jones's staff to discuss if its something within their jurisdiction and if yes, they will pursue Telstra on your behalf

A few days later (usually within 48 hours), you will get the nicest call you will ever get from Telstra. I will name them "Telstra's Yes Team" (Phillipines) and they work directly under the supervision of Fiona Hayes, Head of Customer Service and Contact Centres. It is literally Heaven and Hell if you compare Telstra's Yes Team vs Telstra Chat. The Yes Team communicates with the Ombudsman on a daily basis on any new or unresolved cases. The aim of the Yes Team is to quickly resolve any case so that it will be closed by the Ombudsman, before the Ombudsman decides to take action against Telstra. The Yes Team is very empathetic to their customers and has far reaching authority to quickly troubleshoot any problems.

P/S I had only contacted the Ombudsman once. It got to the stage that if Telstra continues to refuse to refund me, the Ombudsman will include me on their list and initiate a class action against Telstra. It was related to unauthorized third-party charges (Premium Call Charges which I never did).

  • Tried to get the $59 Pixel XL deal on chat this morning and the telstra rep said it was no longer available.

    • +2

      @93vector
      1. Have you tried contacting JB Hifi for the same deal?
      2. If the Telstra rep said it's no longer available.

Ask him/her when will it be available again.
Also ask if it's currently available in Telstra Stores in Australia or even Telstra.com.au website.

It's actually Google Pixel 2 XL
I advice caution in taking the words of Telstra Chat on face value especially if it's from a single chat. Often times, Telstra Chat's response changes depending on who you speak to.

      • You're right. I tried again on chat and they said it's available, but said they couldn't do the $10 credit or 5gb bonus.
You'd think they would all be able to offer the same deals.
        I'll keep trying! Thanks :)

Thanks for all the helpful folks here! Can confirm I got 2 for my family yesterday, go into the jb stores and ask for the deal, they might not have it advertised
    - I went on to telstra chat before to ask about the $10 discount and +5gb per month port in bonus, the guy said yes, saved the chat transcript
    - went into jb store (camberwell Vic still has a few sets left, guys there are VERY helpful)
    - got the deal, went online chat, said that the $10 discount and +5gb was not applied to my account, copy and paste transcript when they asked, and it was applied

did not went with the $200, was too risky and this is a pretty good deal for us already :D

    • could you PM me your transcript please? I need to show them for the bonuses, thanks!

    • Did you also get Google Home mini and an earphones? If so, did you have to ask for it @JB? Thanks.

went on chat and got the $10 discount applied. received bill and see no mention of $10 discount. went on chat again and they said offer can not be applied. asked for the contract to be terminated without penalty. Telstra chat talked to supervisor and finally applied the $10 discount.

    winner.

  • $59, 25gb so far. Will attempt $10 port in discount tomorrow

-Ported from Telstra to Vodafone for less than 24 hours.
-First Online chat to Telstra requesting $10 off and was told that it wasn’t available as the phone was discounted. Was then told in the same chat that the credit management team may be able to do it via phone call.
-Second online chat 5 minutes later I asked about additional data, they mentioned they will be able to apply it after I activate the account.
-Walked into JB and picked up the phone at the regular $59 month with phone, home mini and earphones.
-Online chat to Telstra again and requested 10gb bonus data and was granted straight away.
Will go online chat again tomorrow to request port in discount

    • You chatted with billing right? For the 10gb.

      • Yes.

      $49/month, 25gb, pixel mini, earphones

      • 25gb? how?

        • This is the exact text I wrote.

i have a friend that signed up on the same plan through JB and they were able to get 25gb after speaking with Telstra. I was hoping I could too get that since I also have a cable account with Telstra

        • Worked for me too. Remains to be seen if the changes show up on my bill tho.

    • Can you please let me know if you had to recharge on vodafone to port in your telstra number. I have a $2 starter pack but it doesnt let me proceed without to port in without recharge. If nop what other options do I have to port out from Telstra.

      • I used this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/372062
Put the sim in, activated it, ported my number from telstra to voda, let it go for a day
Then was able to port back to telstra and get the deal

        • thanks for the quick reply

Just went to JB got the deal and armed with a previous transcript from Billing asked the chat guy to apply both bonuses 10$ and 5GB, got it straight away.

What a deal, usually youd be paying $79 for this as per their PDS!

Discounts appear on bills. Wait until your 1st bill.
