Such a great card. Was able to use my free flight to go to Perth for Christmas, essentially getting a $600 return flight for $225. Had no troubles finding availability when booking in October, and even got status credits for the flight (!)

This card also provides complimentary travel insurance when you use it to book transport for your trip (check T&Cs for qualifying amounts etc).

    • How do you have to book the flights? Through ANZ?

      • Yeah, there’s a number you can call, it’s in the pamphlet that comes with the card.

They just use Virgin Reward Seats, so you can check availability on the Virgin website before you call.

        • +1

I predicted the same but they either no longer use or never used the virgin rewards seats, had to try 6 sets of different dates (all of which had rewards seats) before I got availability.

    • I wouldn't get people's hopes up that high, I found the availability very limited when booking Melbourne to Cairns 4 months out - not on/near a public holiday

      • Yeah right, wow, that’s the complete opposite of my experience. Must be a bit hit and miss.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I’ll be sure to book well in advance in the future!

      • Yeah I also went to Cairns using these fares, had to try 3 different weekends to find something that worked (even when going up on Thursday/Friday returning on Monday.

Great card, 40k is a bit on the low side but still worth it I think :)

  • +1

Does anyone know long does it take for the 40,000 Velocity points to be credited after spending the $500? Can't seem to find this info anywhere on their rewards page.

    • +2

I don't think it takes too long, maybe a few weeks. I called up to check on the progress of mine last year and I actually ended up getting credited 60,000 twice! :D

    • +1

      Criteria met - 23/02/2017
      points credited - 27/03/2017.

So about a month for me.

    • +1

I recently called about this and they said up to 60 days. Today I Registered my Velocity points card, so we will see now

      • Thanks, I was hoping it'll be quicker than that but as long as it's credited I'm happy!

        • Just a follow up that I had to call them a few days ago and was told it'll take 60 days. Told them my Velocity number over the phone - there's no place online to input this. I'm planning on chasing them up a few times too, to make sure the points are credited.

    • I got this card at the start of December and didn’t get te 40k bonus credited to my velocity until the end of Feb despite meeting the minimum spend on the first day of having the card. Also called up at least 5 times during the time to query it and they would only say it could take up to 90 days. My friend had better luck and received after a month but had to call up to chase them up first

$225 for 40k velocity points is acceptable but not great.
But not a terrible deal either.

Worth it if you were going to get a card anyway

    • +4

Well $225 for 40k points + return domestic flight + 2 lounge passes($60+ on gumtree as I get Virgin lounge entry through AMEX) ;)

I'm keeping it this year just for the last two benefits.

      • +1

yes. i just applied yesterday, and i will keep this card as well. as it is worth for long range fly.

      • Do you know if they scan your Amex card when accessing the lounge? I’m guessing you got the Platinum Charge right?

        • Yeah, it's the Plat. Charge.
And at the Virgin lounges in Syd and Melbs, they only looked at the expiry date.
Delta lounges in the US do swipe my card. So does the AMEX lounge in Sydney, and Plaza Premium lounge in SIN and KUL

        • @FirstWizard:

Yeah I thought that was the case. You can basically cancel the Platinum card and still hold onto it for lounge access with Virgin Airlines.

  • 12 month wait for previous customers - From T and C:
Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card within the previous 12 months.

    • yes. standard. nothing special :)

      • Amex is 18 months and NAB last time had no minimum.

        • thanks, yes, AMEX is 18 months.

but all other credit card waiting time is 12 months.

i didn't know NAB had no min, it is special! ha

        • @su27km: Yes, NAB is very special.

    • Also note this doesn't include the ANZ FF Black that lots of people have. I like apple pay so I keep cycling between this card and the Black card every 12 months

      • Stupid question but I'll ask. Considering you already have the ANZ FF Black and switch to this on and off. Do they do a credit check each time? i.e. is your score impacted? Im assuming yes?

        • +1

Every application incurrs a credit check so yes

        • @stirlo: Thanks. Its just that when I was with Amex and "Transfered" from Amex Explorer to Platinum edge, a credit check wasn't done. I understand this isn't the same here as you are applying each time.

  • This might be a novice question but I don't bank with ANZ, that isn't an issue is it? I've not got a bank CC without banking with the same bank before.

Cancelled my AMEX Velocity in Dec to wait for the 18 months to expire, and recently maxed the Virgin Flyer. All about the points, any non-Amex related deal is a plus!

So there's no benefit for referrals or anything? Judging from the comments occasionally this card has 60k?

    • +2

No, it will not be a problem. I have 3 ANZ card without banking with them :)

    • +1

This card offered 60k points when it was still new, this was shortly followed by a 40k points offer around 12 months ago and now they've repeated the 40k point offer.

You don't need to have held an ANZ bank account, but all it means is you'll be required to go through extra steps to verify your identity. I think I was required to go into a branch for this.

  • It was good with Amex companion card.

  • +1

how long are you required to hold the credit card for? Could I cancel once I’ve received the points and used the flight/passes?

    • Yes you can cancel after you've used to points and flight. I don't think you need to hold the card to use the passes as they are standalone. That's why you'll see people selling the lounge passes on Gumtree.

  • +2

    Best travel card!

I applied this so we can use it on our recent overseas trip to get points since 28 degrees won't give any point. Good conversion rates, no international transact fee.

I use the free ticket to fly to Eastern state for Easter (RRP $600).

    Can't be happier!

  • I got this offer in my inbox today, is this any good for anyone? Or worthy of its own post?

    https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/frequent-…

    And this one
    https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/frequent-…

    • Looks like there is still an active deal for the Platinum 65k but the last 75k deal posted for FF Black has been marked as expired.

      • 75,000 Rewards Points = 37,500 Velocity Points

        • I'm talking about the FF cards not the Reward cards. You get QFF with the ANZ FF cards.

        • @spiff: I just got the rewards Black anz card, that means I can’t get this card? What a shame! This card is way better!

        • @Flyingberger: Yeah that's right. This is more of a card you keep if you know you're gonna use the flight every year. If not, then keep rolling over the Rewards Black/Platinum :)

  • +1

Worth saying that it appears the free flight map is better than the Amex Velocity (which had no West Coast or NT option)

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/using/using-tra…

  • Can you apply for one and your wife another to get two return flights ?

    • Yep why not? Shame there's no referral bonuses

(I did that with the Amex Platinum)

  • Anyone know when this offer expires?

  • Is there a way to change the name after booking? I am pretty sure ANZ won't allow it as their T&C stipulate cardholder name, but can you go through Virgin after booking to pay a fee to change names?

  • Merged from ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Credit Card - 40K Velocity Points + Complimentary Virgin Flights and 2 Lounge Pass $225 Annual Fee
    Go to Deal

I really like the features on this card which help offset the yearly fee. Virgin Return Domestic Flight, 2 Virgin Business Class Lounge Passes, No Overseas Transaction fee, etc.

Also they are running a promotion where you get 40,000 Velocity Points or spending only $500 on the card. Pointhacks have had this promo for a while but it is now available directly via the ANZ also.

    • Does anyone know which domestic flights are eligible?

      • +1

Click here scroll down to "Where can I fly?"

        • The flight to Perth makes this an awesome deal. Return flight to Perth usually cost 350+.

      • +1

Also needs to be a direct flight, you have to book at least 60 days in advance, it has to be in the name of the cardholder, and there is limited availability (like reward seats availability).

        • yeah that's true
60 days in advance makes this card not very attractive in addition to very limited availability (only a certain fare class)
But I've been using it for oversea transaction and 2x lounge pass is added bonus

    • I’ll do some research and dig around on the site, but does anyone have an opinion on how this card compares to the Amex velocity platinum?

      • I have both the Amex Velocity Platinum and the ANZ travel adventures. They are both great value if you use the free flights to offset the annual fee, although I have found that the Amex allows you many more options when booking domestic flights. The ANZ card reward flights are much more limited, plus you have to book at least 60 days in advance.

        • +3

As in more flight options? I have found the AMEX to have travel to a lot less locations however. From Melbourne the ANZ Card gives you flights all over Aus. The AMEX only gave flights to eastern cities + Adelaide.

        • @fattymattyd: Agreed, the ANZ card gives you more flight options in terms of travel routes (and good value if you can book say a Melb to Perth flight), however flight availability is a lot more scarce than the Amex Velocity card - at least in my experience. Eg. I tried to book a Melb-Brisbane flight recently with ANZ and there were only 3 flights, all with crappy times. For the same day, I booked using my Amex velocity and there were at least 10 available flights that I could redeem my complimentary domestic flight on. Not sure if others have had a similar experience.

      • +1

ANZ includes Perth on the free flight, Amex doesn't - but Amex does have Hamilton Island which is great value too, not sure if ANZ does.

ANZ does have a few more rules around booking flights i.e. 60 days prior, but if you're planning on a weekend or holiday time then you'd need to do that with Amex anyway

AMEX is better points earner on every day spend

ANZ is better for overseas use (zero fee)

AMEX has amex lounge and Virgin lounge (x2 each), none for ANZ

40k points is really easy to reach with ANZ ($500)

        • +1

ANZ has 2x Virgin lounge passes

        • Hamilton Is is also included with ANZ (departing from some cities)

        • @knobbs: ah yeah? Cool, haven't used it.

Love the presentation case and luggage tags that come with the ANZ, nice touch.

    • Thanks all for the info. Here's a summary of the pros differences (relevant to me)

      AMEX:
      - better points earner on every day spend
      - higher sign up bonus velocity points
      - spend offers
      - amex lounge pass at Sydney International or Melbourne International

      ANZ:
      - lower annual fee
      - $0 overseas transaction fee
      - $500 spend in the first three months
      - flights to eastern cities + Adelaide + Perth

    • I liked this card, as it allowed me to use the flight to go to Uluru.

    • Does the come with a balance transfer, if so what % can you BT

  • Hello! Long time lurker. I've been eyeing off this card for aaaaaages - has anyone had any luck getting more bonus points by discussing further with ANZ before applying?

  • How to obtain the lounge passes? How long did it take you for the points to get transferred across? Still nothing for me.
    Thanks.

    • You need to order your lounge passes after you've spent the required $500 - their contact number is 1300367763

  • This is back to 75,000
