  • I'm not sure it is a unique code. Mine is 4 x numbers and don't seem very special…

  • either that or 30000 westpac points

    • Two Amex cards:
      * Black for 20,000 points (or in my offer:15,000 points)
      * Platinum for 10,000 points

      • You're talking about QFF points, I'm talking about WP Altitude points. Doesnt matter about what card you get, the point ratio is different depending on your program.

        • Yes. My offer was for QFF points. My wife is Westpac black altitude and I’ll ask her what her offer was as the ratios are definitely different.

        • @danielh: My wife was offered 40,000 Altitude points which she says is barely worth about $180 as she usually converts 23,000 Altitude points for a $100 gift card.

        • @danielh:

Lucky her then :D Most were offered 30k on black. QFF programs costs about 16800 points for a $100 gift card so its probably better off with Altitude.

  • My offer was Black card but only 15,000 QFF points. I’m tempted to not bother as even though the AMEX card is free for the first year, you still have to pay for the Westpac Visa card and unfortunately for me, my yearly fee is coming up in March 2018 so I can’t even try the old get Amex black, spend $3000, get points then cancel card trick.

I’ll try the quit westpac account trick this week and see if they will offer free card for another year or not.

    • I think because this is an AMEX issued card, you don't have to pay for the other card. Just get this one and cancel your VISA today!

      • I thought so as well but I read the Ts and Cs and they are implying you need to have both but to be honest I’m not sure how they can enforce it.

        • You'll pay for QFF program at $50 pa otherwise you'll earn no reward points. They're enforcing through the points system.

  • No CCs in my Westpac account (but I have held Westpac CC in the past obv) and I didn't get a message. :(

    • You would have gotten physical mail. Very customized to you. Even the terms and conditions will have your full name in it.

Oh. Just read your post properly. You would have gotten nothing as you need to be an existing westpac CC member.

  • What was the criteria for black vs platinum I wonder?

    • I was a westpac platinum member but was given an offer to the new AMEX black. Not sure why as I had deliberately stopped spending on this card the last few months in preparation to cancel it.
I will admit that I have a very high income though. Maybe they got access to that.

      • You make it sound like you didn't freely provide them with your earnings amount when you signed up for the card?

        • No. I gave all my correct income details but went for the ‘lower’ card as the bonus QFF points were the same and I just wanted any old card with as low a credit limit as possible. I think the Black minimum was quite a bit higher than the Platinum so I went with the Platinun in the end.

        • @danielh: what do you consider as 'very high' income? 250K+?

        • @danny1213: Yes. Maybe on the lower banding but I guess if the ATO now ranks $250k of accessible income for Div293 purposes it will fit the range. Last year it was $300k+. When you also add in household income for DINKs (Dual Income No Kids) it can easily reach the $500k zone.

        • @danielh:

Pretty sure 99.9% of the people on OZB are not in the +300k per household zone.

        • @serpserpserp: No argument there. I was just answering someones question. :-)

    • I only got offered a platinum with 20k altitude points. almost wonder whether it's worth bothering.

      • I'm current a black member…

      • Basically $150 in points for free right?

        • +3

yeh im black member but only got offered platinum and 10k bonus points. it's not worth the credit hit. plenty of other cards in the sea.

Me too. I have my current Black Altitude Westpac Amex through my home loan package, so it's disappointing I wasn't offered Black Amex and it's also unclear to me whether I will still need to pay an annual fee ongoing, since the current annual fee is waived with the home loan package.

Thank you for posting though. I never check the Westpac Online Banking messages, since 90% of the time they are statement notifications or scheduled maintenance.

        • The only reason these are being offered is cause the Westpac issued AMEX are being closed in Mar/Apr unfortunately :(

        • I understand that Westpac Black Altitude Mastercard/AMEX was one of the better cards and it looks like this change will reduce the value. I may need to think about re-financing my loan elsewhere - no, I didn't sign up my loan with Westpac just because of this card; this card was a bonus.

        • same card as yours. Just logged in to Westpac account. No offer/message yet regarding the new credit card.

  • Pretty disappointing offer IMO

    • +3

It is only worth it if you already have an Amex sourced card and your Westpac visa anniversary date is about 4+ months away. In that case you just apply for the card, make the $3000 spend then dump the whole westpac/Amex CC combo after you confirm your points.

If you have not currently got an Amex sourced card then I’d recommend going for the current 100,000 point offers you are right now.

      • Oh very good point. I am waiting to get another Amex card when my 18 months is up.

        • +1

This is also one of the few times you can ‘double-dip’ in getting points with Amex sourced cards as the usual 18 month restrictions don’t apply.

        • @danielh: agree. And it was an auto approve because you are an existing westpac CC holder :)

        • @Foreveryone: so just confirming OP. If I don't have an Amex Issued card I can apply for this Westpac deal to get the 40k Altitude points and also apply to Amex to get the 100k FF.?

        • +3

@Brainwhacker: I would say apply Amex with the 100k ff first then only apply for Westpac card. Just in case that Amex will take it as if you have already had Amex card if you are applying the Westpac-Amex first. CMIIW.

        • @Foreveryone: thanks, will apply to Amex first

      • +1

Except the 100k points cards aren't free. This is free for first year. I know you get travel money for the eqiv of the card fee, but you still gotta pay it!

        • Yeap! I have plat edge and get $200 travel credit but the price of hotels etc are higher… can't win.

        • +1

If you have the opportunity, I would go for the 100,000 points as you can convert that to $1,000 quite easily. Add in the free flight etc, you can come out ahead in year one. Just remember to drop the card for year two.

        • @danielh:

I see your point, but you can convert this offer of 40k points into ~$250 within 3 months and pay nothing.

        • @serpserpserp: I thought the 40k Altitude points converted to around $180 (assuming 23,000 Altitude points for a $100 gift card is a good baseline).

Also, why not double dip? Apply for and get a Qantas AmEx 100,000 point card now and then apply next week for this Altitude card and get THOSE points as well.

        • @danielh:

If you can double dip go for it!

        • @danielh:

Apply for too many credit (cards) especially within short time period will affect your credit ratings, no?

        • @OzFrugie: I guess it depends on how good your credit rating is and if you intend to apply for another card soon after that (again).

  • I received an offer for Altitude Black Amex with 30,000 Altitude points. I currently have a Altitude Platinum Amex+Visa combo.

Had a look at the rewards per $ and doesn't seem that great compared to the card I already have.

    • I think what is missing from your info is that the amex+visa combo you have currently will just be visa from April onwards. They are closing the amex issued cards for all banks this year.

      • I knew they were going to stop issuing them, but didn't realise they can cancel your amex without your permission… Seems unfair, especially for annual fee cards

        • If amex aren't offering it to them anymore then they can hardly keep offering it to their customers. They've been giving notice about it since September last year (that was when I got my first letter about it).
When you think about it, it is kinda like grandfathering a phone or internet plan.

      • i am only getting the platinum offer. currently on black.

        • Did you try from the link from internet banking?

        • @Foreveryone:

it took me to the platinum offer.

    • anyone not using code please pm me

      thank you

      • I believe the code is unique to that person. My code for the Qantas Black card was very much tailored to me and my offer.

  • anyone on the earth black cards get anything.. dont see anything on my account and i use my card for everything..

    • I haven't received anything either. Hopefully, it's on its way otherwise I will start looking elsewhere.

      • Also a black earth member and nothing. Pretty annoying, especially as they'd already removed some of the benefits when they cancelled the earth program and now they are removing Amex but no offer and no reduction in fee. Time to look around I think

        • I have Earth Black and the Amex offer showed up a few days ago for me, just saw it now. I get my Earth Black for free through my loan (although the package fee is $395/year anyway) but I'll probably keep it so I can keep churning Altitude sign-up bonuses.

  • what offers will people with the gold biz amex card get? can someone that already has 3 amex issued cards and with both a black and plat wbc amex qualify to apply for both the offers?

  • Where do I find the invite? Holding a Westpac Black - nothing in my inbox?

    • If you don't get an invite you might not meet Amex credit standards i'm assuming.

  • Holding a Westpac Black, but received AMEX Platinum invite with NO bonus points lol

  • +3

    Same boat!@tanoshiiki

I have my current Black Altitude Westpac Amex through my home loan package too, I got the message on the Westpac Online Banking messages and a hard copy of the flyer.
They are offering me the new American Express® Westpac Altitude Black Card. I do know whether I will still need to pay an annual fee ongoing, since the current annual fee is waived with the home loan package. I check Westpac website, the annual fee for Altitude Black Master credit card is $395 same as before when they offered 2 cards.

I found there are two links about new AMX cards.

    1. I click the link they provide in Westpac Online Banking messages.

Exclusive offer: Receive 30000 bonus Altitude Points when you apply by 15th March 2018, are approved and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months from Card approval 2.

Exclusive offer: Receive 40000 bonus Altitude Points when you apply by 15th March 2018, are approved and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months from Card approval 2.

The main difference is the Altitude Points.

    • Any link to the Qantas version?

    • Has anyone who was invited to Platinum tried applying and been successfully approved by using the above Black links?

  • Hey guys, I haven’t read all this but wanted to reply.

The black card gives 5 altitude points / $ spend overseas which is great. Also, it’s misleadung when they said it “replaces” the current card. It’s a different card, you need an Amex account to view your account as opposed to doing it through westpac. It doesn’t appear to be a 55 day card. Also, if you’ve got a westpac mortgage deal which waves your yearly $395 credit card fee, it has nothing to do with this card and as such you will be paying an addition yearly fee for the max issued card. This only applies of course to those taking the westpac advantage plus, some of it is self explanatory or obvious but I wanted to point it out.

I for one have already changed over, at the end of the 12 months I will be cancelling my account to avoid fees and stick with just a MasterCard.

  • i just got off the phone with them you need to ask to be transferred to the dedicated wbc amex team. they said there's no invites for business amex at this stage only personal i asked then why haven't i been invited for the personal amex card they checked and said i wasnt opt in for partner marketing. so he opt me in to receive offers from westpac partners so hopefully ill get my invite in the next few days otherwise he said just call back. thus for those that havent got an invite it might pay to call up and make sure your are opted in for partner marketing.

    • interesting - I don't think I have ever signed up but I still receive the offer.

  • How do u check if you are opt in or not? I got the letter saying I should be receiving my invite in the mail but nothing yet. Mine expires end of March.

  • Anyone got this as a new customer via visiting a branch?

  • It appears that the Platinum offer has now been extended to 30 April.

I have asked Westpac as to why I was offered a Platinum instead of a Black (considering I'm a current Black cardholder). Apparently the invitations were determined by Amex, so it would have been subject to Amex's credit criteria. I'm speculating it's because in the last 6 months I have successfully applied for two cards, with most recent one being an Amex Platinum card. I don't check my credit score, but maybe it's taken a slight hit with the two recent applications. I also asked whether there may be future annual fee waivers, considering my current Westpac Black cards are "fee-free" as they are offered through my home loan package. Once again, as the offer is directed by Amex, Westpac are only currently aware of the free annual fee in the first year at this stage.

I think the Black card offers have also been extended to 30 April 2018.

I originally got the email offering 15K QFF points - but signed up using a different link for 40K Altitude points. Was approved and confirmed with the operator that I was getting 40K Altitude points upon meeting the spend criteria.

Seems like these are the 4 variations (only difference being a "g" or "s" prefix - g=gold s=silver perhaps?):

    • Thanks happy bargain fox for these links; I dont have an invite so I will use these links;

Iam trying to apply for the 100k points Amex before I do this one and I cannot seem to find any which offer first year free

      • how will you be able to use the links if you don't have a valid 4 digit pass code? I still haven't gotten invite I don't think I meet their Criteria so I don't expect one from amex

    • Thank you so much for these links. I used the Black 40K Altitude Points link with the invitation code I received for the Platinum card. I applied last night and received approval for the Black card today. Now, just have to wait for the card in the mail and somehow spend $3000!

  • so with my earth black since day one.. was invited back 6+ years ago from my altitude black.. but nothing else offered still due to this new change. have i missed the boat and should start looking for alternatives?

Has anyone with the earth black been offered anything?

I been paying $150 over the standard $395 for it for this since moving from 3 card "invites" for the past 14+ years.

My cards get a minimum 5K spend on them each month.

    • I've got an Earth Black, and the offer showed up for my on 28 March according to the message. 15,000 points and black for me. I'm not sure if I'll take it up, spending $3,000 on Amex is tough.

      • Paypal on bills, if possible.

      • Link it with PayPal and pay everything you can via it.

      • Or maybe prepaid your bills?

  • What does it mean when they want the drivers license or passport for my 3 additional card holders? Just got a call from them saying thanks for sending in my NOA, confirmed a few details, put me on hold then asked me to send those in. Does that mean it's all approved?

  • So I just applied for black today from the link above from happy bargain fox and got approved (was offered QF platinum) thanks there ~

Now would anything happen if I actually cancel my westpac cc? Someone mentioned the bonus point won't come though? Because I only have 2 month left for westpac cc
And westpac usually take 10+ week to process bonus point (if bonus point are processed by Amex then 2 month is sufficient)
