Gen 4? I see a camera icon, so i assume it's one, but considering apples recent photo-shop screw-ups recently, i have doubts.

    • +3

its a gen 4, just look at the plastic case it has round corners, gen 3 had sharp ones

  • Myer had them for $248, I think, with a $25 Myer Gift card.

By the looks of the photo, the 160GB classic is $295.

he's is looking at the US site

    • +2

Also it's $229 if you live in the US. research before commenting

      • +1

its not going to be 229 in the US, most states has sales tax, so probably 240-250 USD.

  • I'm at the apple store now and I can't see that?
    Do you have a link?

  • $330 -5% for 32GB would be a decent deal too.

  • Could anyone tell me if it is possible to play words with friends on this?

    • yes, words with friends is an app. The lite version is free but has ads. The paid version has no ads

      • Thanks for the reply. Can it be played online vs ppl with the iPhone ?

        • Yes you can.

  • I don't know how harvey norman is doing it , Because at dick smith the cost price of 8gb is $238 and we can't sell it below $242 ..
    I guess grab it ..
They probably made a deal with apple

    • Plenty of stores list say 1 item a week where they make no money on it or loose a little in hope of getting people through the door.

    • +1

Goz you happy to get $4 profit only?then i dont know how dicksmith can afford to rent shops in cbd and pay staffs :)

      • +1

        loss leader

      • $238 already includes all those costs. At seller level people can't see how much dse actually pays for items.

      • Perhaps they don't run their stores solely based on the profits or losses made on ipod touches… Just a thought.

  • I have never price matched at officeworks. How do I go about it and does it matter I am in Sydney ?

  • $238 at OW probably only until 9am today…. when they do their price check against other stores.

  • Would they beat this price now?

    • Looks like it's still $238 at OW, so I'd say you should. Good luck.

  • I bought 2 from HN last week and the sale guy told me the best price they could do was $253 as apple would not let them go under that and they where basically already giving them away.

I got a discount on the cases ect I bought but paid $253 for the ipod's

    • You can go back as they have a 30-day price guarantee.

    • More proof of dodgy Harvey Norman salespeople telling lies. It's against the law for any manufacturer (eg. Apple) to set a minimum price. A retailer can sell for whatever price they like. If they don't want to go lower so be it but they can't hold Apple responsible.

I believe the manufacturing cost of the ipod touch is around $100. If you want a "floor" price, that would be it as Apple can make an extra iPhone, sell it directly for $100 and make no losses. However, once you take into account the wages for Apple designers and programmers, storage cost, revenue for the seller, and profit-taking (why their stock prices are incredibly expensive) you can understand why $230 sounds like a great deal.

  • Thanks OP for the post, I just got my 32gb one this morning from OW with the price beat for $313.50!

  • would i be able to pricematch it at JBHIFI in Sydney by just printing the picture?

    • +1

doubt it, it doesn't have a store name(except for the "Harvey Norman" that could be hardly seen on top of the CHRISTMAS Stocking Stuffers) or proof that it actually at this price, best to search for a copy of a receipt.

      • yeah true thanks !
if anyone here has a receipt please give me a heads ups.
