[NSW/QLD] Energy Locals - $50 Bill Credit for New Customers

50

Energy Locals are offering $50 credit to referers and referees.

Very happy with Energy Locals so far. Price is less than the discounted rate my power provider of 20 years was prepared to give, this includes the ‘we don’t want you to leave rate’. Energy Locals is also very transparent in regard to their costs, this isn’t something I have previously experienced when it comes to power supply. Customer service is chalk and cheese too. Nice to talk to a local who is actually interested in helping you.

Update - Deal expired as the referral bonus has been halved (downgraded) from $50 to $25,

    Price is less than the discounted rate my power provider of 20 years

    Did you look at the rest of the market before posting?

    • Absolutely. Origin we’re offering their maximum discount only because I was leaving. Was still better off leaving and I wasn’t going to reward them for the ‘you don’t reward loyal customers unless your forced policy’.

      Also the discounts are on usage only. On solar I keep my usage down and although Origins FIT is a little higher they extract it back in supply charge.

      Not to mention they have no idea what customer service is. Looking around they are all much the same.

      I like Energy Locals attitude to customers.

      Sure, might not be the best deal for everyone in all locations but I’m ahead. It’s slways worth a bill comparison at the least.

  • NSW and Queensland only

  • I export more than i use and with Origin you get 15c FIT vs 12.1-12.8c with this provider. I know they support charity but I can support charity myself with the savings and claim on tax.According to wattever Im saving ~$50 with being current provider.

    • You might be interested in Energy Locals association in Nexergy. Nexergy will enable you to sell your excess power to someone else at a better rate than any FIT you’ll find, whilst allowing them to purchase from you at a better rate than any provider will give them for their usage. So good for those with or without solar. You just choose Nexergy instead of a charity at sign up.

      I’m really hanging out to see this comes together. Heaps of potential if it goes as planned.

  • I'm looking at changing to Origin Energy. Below prices including GST. No controlled load

    Daily Rate (incl GST)
    Energy Locals - 150.70 cents
    Origin - 155.111

    Domestic Usage
    Energy Locals - 25.3 cents per kwh
    Origin - 31.317 cents per kwh
    Origin less 28% pay on time discount - 22.548

    Feed in tariff
    Energy Locals - 11.7 cents
    Origin - 9 cents

    I'm getting solar panels installed soon so I don't have figures for how much I'll be sending to the grid. Large family. Approx 35 kwh usage per day. Based on those figures my costs for 30 days would be;
    Energy Locals - $265.65 + $45.21 usage = $310.86 ($10.36 per day)
    Origin - $236.74 usage + $46.53 usage = $282.93 ($9.431 per day)

    So not counting FIT and any usage from solar panels that I don't have to buy (which I can't yet measure), the yearly cost for both providers are;
    Energy Locals - $3782.13
    Origin - $3442.32

    $339.82 cheaper with Origin, provided I pay on time.

    Some here would be on controlled load and on time of use. Worth checking your bills and doing some sums.

    • Just bear in mind that many big electricity providers like to be creative with their calculations, doing things like applying discounts to net use. You can’t just apply 28% to your usage rate and assume that’s what your going to get. Your discount may sound great, but could be quite watered down when actually applied.

      I guess that’s what I like about Energy Locals. What you see is what you actually get. There’s some peace of mind knowing they’re not trying to screw you at every opportunity.

      As their user base gets bigger and their buying power better then maybe the rates will get better still. In the meantime I have found them easy to deal with and actually helpful without being forced.
