  • I use Metroview and it was great value at $24.99.

    Amazing value at $14.99.

Full maps, download and away you go.

Follow the MetroView thread on whirlpool and talk to developers direct

    • Ditto. I bought it at full price and am very happy with it, at $15 it's great value.

Only times it's ever had any trouble is when the phone's GPS isn't getting good enough co-ords, which would happen with any GPS app.

  • David Jones have 20% off iTunes cards (until Xmas eve)…

so Metroview it will cost only $11.99 !!!

      HN has 2x$20 for $30, which is 35% off. So $11.24 :)

      • +2

thats actually 25% off, not 35%…

if you only want to purchase MetroView though, you may not want $40 credit… The DJ's offer applies to ALL iTunes cards, so it may suit some people better…

        • -1

Oops, typo. My maths used 25%, so $11.24 is correct :P

  • Please Note: The iPod requires an external GPS receiver such as the TomTom car kit for iPod.

    does it really ????

Can this app simply not run directly off the phone like other apps do?

    • They are referring to the earlier iPod touch which didn't have the inbuilt GPS.

    • +1

      The iPod, not the iPhone.

        my bad

  • Good App. Good price.

  • Question, does it require 3G signal to function?

    • no

Might be worth noting that Google Maps Navigation GPS App is in Beta and coming to iOS. It looks like a killer, with 3D Vector graphics, caching (great for poor reception or expensive data plans) etc. And most importantly, FREE!

"While there is no denying that there are some great iPhone GPS apps available however nonce can hold a candle to the Google Maps Navigation Beta."

Google Maps has on more than one occasion got me lost.

        same with TomTom…

Google Navigation is free (on Android / should be free once it is available on iPhone). It integrates quite well with Google Map.

On the weekend, my standalone GPS could not find the destination I wanted to go to. Had to use my Android phone. Googled the place, the browser showed me the place on google map, then chose Navigate to (from current position) and it then provided turn by turn navigation.

Can't believe Apple rejected Google Navigation earlier on. It is free turn by turn, voice assisted navigation (you do need 3G data - but my whole trip used up only about 1M-2M data). Can't wait for it to be available on iPhone.

        • metroview can use the best of both worlds, it can use google for the actual search and then its own software to navigate you there.

        • If Google Maps Nav came out on iPhone tomorrow, it'll completely gut the paid GPS apps (TomTom/Garmin/Metroview). Indeed, the day Google announced it on Android, TomTom and Garmins' shares down 20%.

Apple's.. just protecting their livelihood. Which, while understandable, is annoying as hell for their millions of customers forced to pay for extra services which are superior and free on Android.

        • But does it require 3G roaming for maps, etc? If so, the minute you go country your stuffed right?

      • XKCD can relate… :)

    • Google Maps Navigation will be great, but I doubt they'll have downloadable maps, which still puts Metroview ahead in at least one area.

    • aside from citing an article from October 2009, what evidence do u that google navigation will be available on iOS and that it in beta for iOS?

  • i hope i dont get pulled over by the cops for using my iphone as gps

in Victoria, as long as the phone is in a proper holder, you are fine…

only if the phone is in your hand or on your seat can you get booked…

  • i already have navigon on iphone, is it worth buying this? will it perform better than navigon?

    • Metroview doesn't have live traffic unfortunately…

      • i've never used that function in navigon anyway.

for pure turn-by-turn navigation which works better?

I have on numerous occasions used navigon and it works extremely well, but there on the odd occasions, it will put me completely off the map, on a completely (nearby) different road and will take a while to refix the position.

on odd occasion, the gps takes its sweet time getting a fix.

  • I use Navigon, which is good but not reliable. Can get you lost, the value of this app seems pretty good.
The only thing I havent figured out yet is motorway Toll option it doesnt appear to be an obvious option yet. Not sure if this is really available or not other than the rest looks good.

So will this work with my new ipod touch I just bought? I know the usual gpsish stuff doesn't really work without a wifi connection

    • im pretty keen to try this too, i reckon it should find things that dont require a net search and it is 381mb so if ur looking for addresses and shit, should be okay, besides my tomtom in the car is offline anyways….

i have an iphone4, but would be a steal if it works on my gf's ipodtouch4 as well….

      =]

  • I just bought this but wished i hadn't.. It doesn't have my street on it, even tho our estate is 18 months old.. navigon has it..

    • Go to the metroview site and report it. They'll fix it.

  • Sweet, well done guys, will purchase this evening :)

  • Came up on my AppShopper alert. Just couldn't resist paying $15 to try it out, even though I had been waiting for a bigger drop than TomTom currently has and get that.

  • I'm immediately turned off by advertising that uses "holiday" as a euphemism for "Christmas".

    • Christmas turns you on?

    • As somebody who works close to Advertising (but not direct involvement), the use of the "euphemism" is to avoid offending people that do not celebrate the Christian tradition. Yes it's one of those overly PC things but I don't think OzBargain is the right place to discuss the merits of whether Christmas is sufficiently secularised to allow advertisers to use it freely and wantonly.
