      • heh, I reckon they have clause for that, too obvious

You don't have to take my advice because most people want to control their own action but my experience alongside veteran cruise enthusiasts are that P&O are one of the worse cruises to go on.
Food is practically inedible. You're definitely saving money by having a horrible holiday.

Same can't be said about their parent company Carnival or some of their subsidiaries. But P&O and Princess(former P&O subsidiary) are just really bad.

Our first cruise was with P&O, and given that we didn't know any different we absolutely loved it.
You can't fault the service at all, everyone working on board go above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable time.

The amenities are what let's it down, once you've explored the boat and hot up a bar or two it becomes a bit same-ish, especially when travelling for a 10 night cruise.

Second Cruise was with carnival, and it was chalk and cheese to P&O. The boat itself, events, activities and entertainment where miles in front on carnival, the restaurant was close to fine dining each night, and even the version of the 'pantry' was a lot better, having individual styles.
Free pizza 24/7 was great for 3am wake ups too.

We tried each premium restaurant and couldn't fault them. $50 per head for what would usually run a $250-$300 bill in Sydney was great.

Overall, if P&O is your first cruise and don't know what to expect, this price its a steal.

Nothing is a steal if it's a bad experience.

        • Each to their own, but it's not as bad a picture as you paint.

        • @linton: I guess its true depending on your own experience. I spent $800 on top of my $600 trip because I had to drown my bad experience in alcohol. Nothing was tolerable.
The milk was long life milk.
          The guacamole was brown.
The sesame icecream is vanilla icecream with sesame.
You can't order more than 1 shot per 15 minute
The shows are incredibly bad and boring. I managed to only stay for 1 entire show half asleep. I walked out of 4 other shows.
No complimentary food after 11. No paid food after 1am.

Seriously you can't convince anyone who likes cruising to go back on that cruiseline. I initially thought it can't be that bad when warned. I was very wrong.

And again, you don't have to take my advice, people argued against me when I warned about companies like Warehouse1.

Just so you know, the negative votes weren't mine so some one else disagrees with you, not me.

Our experience was made better by the drinks package being included, but they still have a responsible service of alcohol policy as well as the fact it works out to ~$80 a day for the package so they're not just going to rack shots up for you.

As for shows that is a matter of taste. We were entertained for what they were, they seemed a bit the same after seeing 3 or 4, but were still fun enough to go along to.

As I said, we've since cruised on Carnival and found that to be a lot better and do probably won't go back to P&O in a hurry but these deals offered great value for the longer cruises with port stops.

The amount I saved on duty free covered a quarter of my cruise price so that was an added bonus.

        • @linton:

          I'm not so sure though.

The drinks package works well if you are a heavy drinker, and as long as you aren't a bogan, you can order more drinks then you want. Maybe there would be an issue if you just stayed in the same bar all day ordering constantly.

But if you aren't a heavy drinker its better to just get no package, I always came out ahead even though I purchased cocktails.

Also at least when I was on P&O late last year, softdrink was was free in the pantry plus they had juice during meals.

        • @samfisher5986:

I made use of ours with a few cocktails and throughout the day as well as a few Bombay or tanquery gin and tonic. Drink top shelf and it adds up.

Apart from one occasion when we became friends with another couple on the ship and had quite a few drinks up on top deck, I was never really intoxicated but would still have drunk more each day of value than what it would have cost if we had to have paid for it.
On top of that it allowed real coffee from the Cafe and bottles of water which we'd get any time we were heading back to the room. Ended up with almost a slab of it by the time the cruise finished.

That said though, our next cruise on carnival they don't have an alcohol package and so drank sparingly but would probably have paid for a package if they had one. Would have worked out about the same.
