  • so… like some ugly thing like this?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anti-tip-Furniture-Tootsy-Boo-guara…

actually, looking in the manual its not even that fancy

3 screws (2 for tv, one for back of cabinet) and a strap that loops around each

    • It may be similar to that. Need to wait 10 business days for delivery, so hopefully whoever receives it first could post a photo of it :)

  • +4

These straps are very common in earthquake zones like New Zealand.
Might be useful if you have out of control kids.

    • Or pets :)

    • The first time I read through your comment it sounded like you were saying something about NZ kids, haha.

      • +3

Or out of control Kiwi kids riding pets near your TV which is situated in an earthquake zone! :-O

        • It feels like they are targeting a very specific, niche market.

  • +10

This is forced not out of the goodness of their hearts. if they were actually thinking about people they would have been including them in sets. It's been there for ages.

The other one is the free power supply replacement on 9000D models as they appear to have been a bad batch faulty they would just rather you come to them than them informing you proactively.

Neither is really a classified as a deal but a consumer right.

    • +2

My current and last Sony TV's came with these in the box.

      • My last 2 didn't both 65" and the last one which is 2 weeks old came direct from Sony because they had no stock.

It just didn't concern me as it was being mounted

      • Mine did not come with the strap included, and I got my X7000D a few months ago.

        • +1

Glad to know someone isn't stealing them just from the ones i buy

    • Neither is really a classified as a deal but a consumer right.

In my case it was more of an educational post to let me know that something like this exists.

      • Hate to be the one to say it but it's in the manual in every TV i've owned.

Check some of your insurance policies too I've seen it in there too.

    • +1

We bought a few Panasonic plasma TVs in 2007/2008 which both came with anti-topple straps included.

  • Just ordered one! thanks

  • Ordered one .. thx

  • Mine is KDL48W600 series, it is not in the list

    • +4

Looks like your TV may be at risk of toppling.

      • +3

you mean may not be at risk of toppling

  • +4

    Strap on?

    • +1

Yes, something needed by anyone who buys a Sony TV.

    • +7

Why? You're just going to throw it in the bin…

    • +3

U fink u hav kno need den nek minnit ded bae

  • I have 2 eligible TVs. Do do I get to redeem 2 straps?

Good idea since I have small kids.

    • +3

Since it's tied to the serial number as the unique identifier, I would assume you can order 2x in your situation.

      • Thanks

  • +5

ordered 3 months ago, never arrived.
Contacted Sony again a month ago and they said they will create a new order, still hasn't arrived.

  • thanks op, great find!

  • +2

We had been using our own Sony anti-topple device by recycling a few wire clothes hangers.

    • +1

That or do what I did which was get all the kids to wear helmets.

  • +3

    Not a Freebie, requires a purchase…

    • "free with purchase"

      • -1

Correct, it requires a purchase, so therefore not a 'freebie'. Read the posting rules.

    • Targeted freebie?

  • +3

My Panasonic came with these. They probably only cost $2. Don't know why they wouldn't include them by default.

    • Someone would have worked out that it costs less to send them out rather than include them with every tv.

It's also less wasteful as the ones that don't get used won't be thrown in the bin.

      • Someone would have worked out that it costs less to send them out

Until someone is killed or injured and they get sued because they could have included these but didn't…

        • Already happened JV unfortunately and it's sad you still have to chase them for thing.

      • +2

        Do you work for Sony?

Your answers are a bit all over

You claimed your TV's came with them so can we assume your last 2 TV's weren't on the list, that allows you to make a claim.

This comment agrees with my statement above that it's a consumer right but they will only give them when asked for and you pointed out the reason why they aren't included, cost as minimal as it is.

If Sony were putting them in all TV's there would be no need for the website

For more info head to ACCC website the deal was struck last year to do something proactive after an unfortunate incident that was one too many.

        • Do you work for Sony?

          No

You claimed your TV's came with them

          They did

This comment agrees with my statement above that it's a consumer right

I'm not sure where I agreed with that in anything I have said.

I don't think it's a consumer right under the ACCC and I don't think the ACCC does either. Providing these is a safety initiative but not something that is a consumer right.

TV without these are not defective or unsafe when used as a TV. TVs are not designed to be used as a toy or climbed on (if they were then these straps would be a consumer right)

These straps stop people getting hurt from doing things with a tv that the tv was not designed for.

Yes I do think they are a good safety initiative.

        • -1

@spaceflight: Why don't you take a look then, the first picture you see is a baby in front of TV.

And if you new the history of the agreement you would be a little more clued up

        • -2

          @Toons:

the first picture you see is a baby in front of TV.

          On the Sony website?
There is no baby in the photo.

And if you new the history of the agreement you would be a little more clued up

I dont think you are clued up to what a consumer rights is when you are talking about the ACCC.
These straps are not a consumer right. They are a safety initiative.

The ACCC is urging parents and carers to anchor unstable furniture and large TVs, as part of an international safety campaign to prevent infant deaths and serious injuries.

@spaceflight: Well done you found it and if you knew why it was there then you might understand it was an unfortunate accident with a TV.

So once again why are they not in all tv's your answer was

Someone would have worked out that it costs less to send them out rather than include them with every tv.

It's also less wasteful as the ones that don't get used won't be thrown in the bin.

IT became a right when they agreed to put that Website up under instruction, after the investigation providing them for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Otherwise this would be an optional extra, if you wanted it buy it which it was at one time. in not too distant past.

          Sorry

        • -1

          @Toons:

Well done you found it and if you knew why it was there then you might understand it was an unfortunate accident with a TV.

I read the original report in 2015.

Lets have a look at the Product saftey website.

The ACCC is urging parents and carers to anchor unstable furniture and large TVs
          This global campaign
Consumers are urged to install anchoring devices
safety tips to consider are: secure TVs and furniture with anchoring devices
          etc

Nowhere does it say that the ACCC is mandating that manufacturers provide these and that you can go to the manufacturer who must provide you with one

It is only a "tip" to secure TVs too

IT became a right when they agreed to put that Website up under instruction, after the investigation providing them for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Nobody has been forced to provide these. Manufacturers are not required to provide them.

I think your keyboard might be broken.

Otherwise this would be an optional extra, if you wanted it buy it which it was at one time. in not too distant past.

          It still is.
As i said with regard to the ACCC these straps are not a consumer right. They are a safety initiative.

Good idea but already bought a cheap strap from good guys years back which did the trick. It better have a giant Sony logo on it

  • +4

Just went to my tv look up the series number.
    You know what.
I found two 5cm scratches on the screen by my kid.

    It is 75x8500d

I wish I did not look at OzBargain tonight.

    • Given it is light scratch (believe it or not), it can be removed employing micro abrasives. I used Chux Magic Eraser from Woolies ($2 pack) and some water to remove a 3cm scratch from a out of control HDMI connector that flung down the LCD.

      • +1

Thanks. Will try. Let me forget it for 8 hours first.

      • -3

from a out of control HDMI connector that flung down the LCD

I hate it when that happens.

HDMI connectors should come with warnings…

  • i oreder about a month ago and still waiting

  • -2

    False advertising!

Not giving away free TV's :'(

  • -1

So judging by the comments it will never arrive.

  • Thanks. Ordered one. TV is wall mounted but free is free in true OzBargain spirit.

  • +2

my parents should have had one, i remember wrestling the tv with my brother because he wanted to watch something but i wanted another. long story short the TV fell into the floor, and its not even flat screen, it's one of those bulky ones cathode ray tube lol

  • I don't need this but still ordered it because free

    • Why? You're just going to throw it in the bin…

      • +1

What makes you think they will throw it away?

  • Nice

    • +1

wow that's brutal…down voted for saying "nice"

      • Upvoting you to even it out lol. Not enough Dr Phil's out there for everyone evidently.

  • +1

Is the stand for their TVs not sturdy enough?

I did a google search to see what this thing looks like. They're straps at the back tied to the table, which you'll need to drill screw holes into to secure.

It looks like it will only prevent forward toppling, not backwards.

All the TV's I've had never used these straps and have never toppled. The stand, if designed well should be secure enough. But then again I don't have small kids. If a kid climbs it, it definitely will be useful. Though again, it only prevents the TV from falling forward. Not so sure if it will prevent backwards toppling. Also won't prevent the entire table from falling forward. If you have one of those tables with a glass top, that glass could separate from the rest of the table and still topple forward with the TV.

  • Why do you think Sony doesn't include all models.. I've got a KDL50W800B it's not in the list.. It came with a TV stand but I suppose all Sony TV's do..

  • +1

My TV is eligible, but I'm not bothering with this.

  • +1

Wish i had this 6 months ago when them damned cats knocked the tv over.

  • +1

123 upvotes. There goes all the voting credibility

    • +2

Who are you to tell me how to use my infinite amount of upvotes?

  • Every sony tv I've purchased (2 for reference) has come with the straps.

    • Interesting. What models?

  • I just strap my kids instead.

  • Ozbargained?

    • Looks like it, it's temporarily unavailable :)

  • +1

Mine arrived today. Could really use a second one for the other side, but hopefully not an issue
