[VIC] Greyhound Adoption $50 at RSPCA Victoria

190

RSPCA Victoria have all greyhounds for $50 adoption fee. I believe they are all desexed and microchipped.

Greyhounds are great dogs - very calm and placid despite their size, and actually don't need much exercise either. Great family dogs.

Also, adopting from RSPCA means your adoption money goes to an actual charity rather than the greyhound industry (as with the various GAPs).

Standard disclaimer for pet-related posts: the adoption fee for an animal is only a small portion of what it costs to keep a pet! There are many ongoing costs such as food, routine vet care (vaccinations; check-ups), toys, council registration as well as other larger costs if the dog gets sick or injured. They also require a lot of time for training and exercise. DON'T GET A PET IF YOU CAN'T LOOK AFTER IT PROPERLY!

Are you ready to find your perfect shade of grey? Fifty Shades of Greyhounds is on now!

Adoption fees for all greyhounds will be reduced to $50 between 19 and 25 of March, and we’re looking to find homes for them all.

If you’re unable to adopt, please spread the word by sharing this post!

*Reduced fee applies to greyhounds only. Standard adoption process applies to ensure all our gentle giants find fantastic forever homes.

Offer available at RSPCA Victoria animal care centres including Epping Animal Welfare Facility (excludes RSPCA Wangaratta).

Greyhounds make a wonderful pet, great with kids, low maintenance. I used to train and race greyhounds and have one now as a pet.

Can confirm, I have now had my greyhound for a year and it’s been fantastic. They are loving, great pets for any size home and just want to sleep for 16 hours a day.

great pets, just ask ted bullpit lol

  • had one for 5 years (he's almost 9 now) and now a 7 month old human. All going nicely so far. He's a chill old boy but loves to get up and about when he has some space!

I have had an ex-racer for 2 years and she is so loving and loyal. Our family could not imagine life without her.

By adopting greyhounds arent you offering an excuse for the racing industry to say they retire to good homes so they can breed more with less scrutiny.

Horses don't get adopted, the industry does not slow down because of that

      • but horse racing allows women to get dressed up for the spring carnival, fashion shows, exclusive marquees, lot more non directly related industries make money on horse industry …. greyhound racing is less glamorous … do they have a spring greyhound fashion festival ?

      1. These dogs are from the RSPCA, not greyhound racers (though obviously most or all will be ex-racers).

      2. You aren't encouraging breeding by adopting an ex-racing greyhound. Racers aren't going to breed more dogs if they're getting adopted. There's no incentive for them to do so. They aren't making money. This isn't like buying a puppy mill dog. The dogs are going to be bred anyway, and if they don't get adopted they'll be killed.

      3. Greyhound racers already breed with impunity and a sickeningly low proportion of ex-racing dogs

If they're not GAP certified then they must wear a muzzle in public. Also, illegal to have them off leash in public. Even at dog parks.

Source: I have a GAP grey. Lots of the comments here are misinformed/ignorant

    • Any grey can become GAP certified for free.

What misinformation are you referring to?

      • Well the person saying take it to the beach to chase sea gulls..

Also OP suggesting giving money to RSPCA is better than giving money to GAP.

        • I'm pretty sure the seal comment was a joke mate…

Also, why would you not want to give your money to the RSPCA instead of the greyhound industry? One is a not for profit that helps animals, the other is a PR team for am industry built on exploitation.

Its a Carl Barron Joke … relax mate
