Citibank is 15% with code AUHOTELS15

  •

This previously was 10% and Mastercard was 12% nice that they Matched the offer now.

This code has stopped working for me today. i've used it the last few days booking hotels across the US. But as of today it keeps saying you've already used this code?? Has it been changed to just a one time use?

Works for me. Just tried on a hotel in Tokyo. Try logging out and trying again?

    Used JUSTRELAX @cheaptickets, get 17%off

  •

Which one is cheaper without discount? Booking.com or cheaptickets? It's a bit hard to compare and cheaptickets is in USD.

    • +14 votes

Does not make a difference within a handful of dollars. Most booking engines including cheap tickets are owned by Expedia. The prices end up about the same. They are just sometimes shown in different ways. All the travel booking engines are BS and so are all the coupon codes. Hotels is an industry so entrenched in price fixing due to the super large scale of Expedia who owns trivago Hotwire orbitz travelocity venere wotif egencia ebookers hotels.com plus 20 other websites. Trust me from being in the industry there are very very few genuine hotel deals to be done unless instigated by the property owners when they are experiencing either low bookings or require a cash flow injection.

Agreed. Best thing to do is to get the price on expedia with the 12% back, then get the hotel to beat it by calling directly. I've been told by hotels to do that as well. I still book with Expedia if I need to be able to cancel last minute (stated in the policy).

  •

I booked a few days ago with cheaptickets at 17% - it was the best price, even better than 15% off on expedia

    •

cheaptickets is the default to go

You will find that Expedia often stacks with Cashrewards (even though it shouldn't) and you do get Expedia points so it ends up being similar. If you wanna pay AUD then I'd just use Expedia.

      •

you do get Expedia points so it ends up being similar

I know you get 2 points for every dollar you spend. But do you know how much each point is worth?

      • +1 vote

Experience tell me that if you use any promotion code purchase. it is will not show up rebate for cashrewards or pricepal. I had once lucky trigger from pricepal but the cashback from them is declined after months at the end because a promotion code used. so no but wish good luck if you get it

That's a pretty long exclusion list:

has there ever been a time where cheaptickets isn't cheaper than any of these other discounts?

    • +1 vote

I find Orbitz gives ever so slightly better rates than CT and always has 15% off. 3% always goes towards Orbucks which you can then use on your next booking to stack with a coupon. Orbitz also has "VIP" membership and you may be entitled to free parking etc with "VIP" hotels. There's also 3% cashback from TCB/Ebates. So it all works out cheaper than CT in my experience.

These Expedia coupons may work out better as they don't seem to have a $150 USD discount cap. So keep that in mind.

    •

I have found on many occasions these 12% deals on Expedia work out cheaper than cheaptickets. First off the 12% is off the entire booking, the 16% cheatickets is not off the total booking, it isn't deducted from taxes and fees which can be a large proportion of some bookings.

      •

Whilst it is true that the 12% applies to the whole booking on Expedia where as CheapTickets and Orbitz codes don't, I still saved over $100 AUD via Orbitz 15% off for a 4 night stay in Brisbane over the Easter long weekend.

        • +2 votes

Yes sometimes this deal will be cheaper, other times it's cheaptickets/Orbitz, people really need to shop around. Being able to pay with amex on expedia and earn those points is also worth that little bit extra as opposed to using a 28 degree MC on the US sites to avoid the foreign transaction fee.

  •

Thanks for the code. I still need to book another hotel.

Cheaptickets website looks like Expedia website. I'm checking Cheaptickets out. Thanks.

    • +1 vote

Expedia owns them as well as Orbitz. Do check them out too as you get Orbucks with every booking. CheapTickets doesn't have a rewards program with hotel bookings unfortunately (only flights).

      •

I've just tried few hotels via Cheaptickets website. After working out from USD to AUD, it's only cheaper by a very small amount in AUD after discount for both Cheaptickets 16% and Expedia 12%. If only our AUD dollar is higher. lol.

Heading away next month and need a night at the transit hotel at Suvarnabhumi airport, Bangkok ( Miracle hotel)
Used the promo code (which was accepted) but still comes in around 10% more expensive than alternative booking channels.

  •

Is there any way to 'pay now' on hotels that are 'reserve now pay later'? I can never use the codes because all the hotels I'm interested in don't have an option to pay up front!

    •

      On Expedia?
You only pay later if you select pay later.

      •

It happened when I was trying to use the cheaptickets code too, and just checked orbitz too. I'm guessing it's the arrangement that the hotels have with the pages? So that payment still goes through hotel? I'm mainly looking at smaller hotels not big chains (the cheapest options!) But it's the same on all the sites im checking that have deals at the moment

        •

This has implications for those who are looking to use the travel insurance linked to their credit card. For example, I rang ANZ to see if booking a pay at the hotel booking would be an eligible spend (need $250). They said no, it needs to be processed before leaving. I ended up booking some trains/ internal travel in advance as I couldn't find any way to pay the hotel up front!

    •

I'm having this same issue. No option on being able to pay now vs pay later so it defaults to pay later and nowhere to put in promo code.

  •

This deal gets 110 +votes and the better deal from cheap tickets every month gets around 10 votes… what's the logic?

  • +1 vote

when I use the link and find the hotel I want, the price is higher by about 15% vs what I can find not using the link and just directly on expedia ….

    •

you mean with the discount code its more expensive? doesn't make sense - which hotel you tried to book and the price with and without the discount code?

  •

Thanks OP had to book 3 rooms for a family trip nice saving :)

  •

Coupon doesn’t work for me as travel date is 11th July how can I get discount for my date ?

  •

Oh FFS - I just booked something non-refundable on Expedia a few days ago, and now with this discount, I essentially lost a saving of $500.

Expedia pretty much just told me I'm SOL because they don't Price Match vouchers (even on their own site). I should do a charge back or something on my card…

Anybody noticed that the link http://www.expedia.com.au/amex is messed up somehow?

I am seeing this and I've tried using multiple browsers and devices.

    •

      Messed up, but still successful

    •

its seems the clog up somehow by clicking the amex link direct us to US server which is complete stuff up the browser. but it is still successful with some tweak and effort on booking

find you hotel first with normal website got your choice of hotel locate it. open up amex site locate your hotel again with your date and location. pick your hotel thru the mess and save to favourite. then click a new window with amex link you can see your saved hotel pick

go thru the mess pick your hotel reserve and paid. the paid section also a mess but you can still find the coupon code section to add. once you add code and amex click complete booking. it should go thru smoothly if card details correct.

go back to normal website with new browser you see your booking confirmed.

also the amex code seems not going thru further with 2 hotels booking or more. need to register a new family account to do the whole process again… we don't really care about expedia rewards pt on one account as they are completely useless rewards
