IMPORTANT NOTICE

I've seen a few people order the Breeze Audio bundle with an S6 sub. I should've probably made this clear and I'm sorry for the confusion but the S6 wont work with the Breeze audio amp - the Breeze Audio amp doesn't have a subwoofer output.

I will contact these people shortly to let them know about this and can refund or substitute for an A44 and refund the difference.

What will work with the S6 sub: A44, Topping MX3, SMSL Q5 Pro, SMSL AD18

Great Stuff chief. Enjoying my B44 + S6 + MX3 from the last deal. Tempted to get that breezy deal for work or the A44.

    • Same setup here except I've got a VX2. Very happy with it.

  • Better to get the bundle with the separate amp or just get the a44 with integrated amp?
Also, how do these compare to the edifier r1700?

    • +4

The Breeze amp actually uses the same amplifier chip as our A44 so they are going to sound pretty much identical.

A44 Benefits: less cables, can easily add a sub (has sub out).
Breeze + B44 benefits: Can easily access the volume control, more flexibility to replace amp and/or speakers separately in the future, if amp fails years down the track out of warranty you still have usable speakers. If you need more power output you can add a larger power adaptor later (up to 24v/3a).

      • -4

This is a very misleading statement. If the sound of an amp was defined by a chip, modern amps would be the size of a smartwatch.

        • +10

They nearly are! Have you seen inside many modern Amps? Even Pro grade rack mount Amps are managing thousands of Watts from 1RU. Here's a "3KW" D Class Module not too much bigger than my phone: http://store3.sure-electronics.com/2-1500watt-class-d-audio-… I personally wouldn't go for it (look at those THD figures!) but it's a good example of how compact D Class Amps are getting. I still prefer the 60kgs worth of my vintage monoblock 100% analogue Perreauxs that are so big & bulky they don't fit in any domestic cabinetry :) I also like the fact that my wife is very tolerant of such craziness ;)

        • +9

Modern class D amplifier designs have very little in the way of components apart from the chip, a bit of input filtering on the line level, some power caps, output caps and a potentiometer and that's about it.

The chip is pretty much doing everything in these designs. I think the second biggest thing to affect sound quality would be the power supply and even then there's not huge difference between lower end switch mode supplies. Adding a linear power supply would definitely improve the quality but that's when things tend to get more expensive.

The only reason these mini amps are as big as they are is that if they got much smaller they'd be harder to use (would slide around the desk due to weight, have volume knobs that are too small etc..).

        • +5

          @SteveAndBelle:

Even Pro grade rack mount Amps are managing thousands of Watts from 1RU

This is probably a bit off topic but when I was a young kid I was back stage at a music festival (mum worked at events) and I stuck my finger into one of the rack mount amp cooling fans. It very quickly took the tip off and my finger hasn't been the same since. I have no idea what was going through my head at the time…

I do wonder whether newer class D gear wouldn't require as insane fans and perhaps wouldn't take my finger off if I tried it again :-)

        • +1

@chiefbodge: Oh yeah! I swear the manufacturers sharpen those fan blades too for that exact reason… the fans must continue to spin no matter what :) I wonder where your finger tip ended up? Probably had to be extracted by some poor tech ;) Good one CB! The D-Class Amps I've played around with stay pretty cool and only need fan cooling when driven very hard for long periods of time so I doubt they use the same air blast cooling methods of old.

      • Excuse my ignorance, is there a way to add a sub to the Breeze + B44?

  • I set up an email alert for the A44, forgot all about it. May as well buy them. Hope there’s enough A44’s tonight after work.

  • Perfect timing! My old pair of desktop speakers broke over the weekend.
Do you recommend adding the S6 along with the B44's for a desktop/bedroom setup, or are they fairly balanced as is?

    • I think the B44s are very well balanced as is but it depends on what you're used to - there's only so much a 4" driver can do. If you're coming from a larger speakers (6" +) or from a setup that has a sub or like genres such as EDM then the sub would be a good idea.

  • Can you do a B44 and SA36A bundle, pretty please?

    • We don't have a lot of stock of the SA36A at the moment unfortunately so we can't offer a special price but if you buy it and the b44s in the sale you'll get free speaker cables thrown in. (which essentially makes it a bundle).

      • Turns out I don't even save that much… $206.59 for B44, SA36A and RCA cable (thanks $15 shipping fee for non-metro location). Still cheaper than standard bundle price I guess ($221.70 with shipping). And now the Breeze bundle has sold out as well… I guess I'll just wait for next time there's a neat deal (hopefully when I'm back in Sydney). Thanks chief, I'll be waiting

Thinking of buying some new quality speakers.

Anyone recommend these over the Logitech Z623 setup?

What are the differences between both of these to each other?

    • Try edifier bookshelf Bluetooth speakers, heaps of connection options

      R1700T or cheaper r1280db

      • +6

I don't really care about bluetooth etc. I will connect via cables as cables are king.

        • i like your style

    • +3

These are much better than the Logitechs. Logitech's are gaming speakers.

      • Eugh.

      • +3

        Yeah, there's no real comparison.

The Z623 has fake tweeters (nothing to do with the Donald), but has a woofer box. It sounds OK for most purposes, but once you've heard a nice system like this Breeze, the Z623 might annoy you.

  • +4

How’s this compare to my Logitech z623 with creative sound blaster zxr?

    • I have heard that the creative sound blaster zxr is an awesome unit.

  • Thanks OP! I have been waiting for this deal to come back for a while. Do you have any bundle price for B44 and Topping VX3?

    • Unfortunately we don't have bundles on eBay but if you buy the B44 and VX3 at the same time we'll chuck in speaker cables. Both are 10% off so the price should be pretty good after the eBay discount as well.

      • Thanks OP!

      • never been so sad to miss a deal…

are you bringing it back anytime soon CB?

        • Not on the VX3 bundle as the VX3 is discontinued and we have very little stock left.

Our next sale event wont be until our next container arrives in around 2 months time - we will have some kind of sale at that point with hopefully some good deals to be had.

        • @chiefbodge:

          possible to bring this back?
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330967

Voll B44 Passive Bookshelf Speakers $90.16 shipped

        • @vongz:

It may be possible if eBay have another 18% off sale but wont be for 2 months at least as we're almost completely out of stock of Voll B44's now.

  • Is the S6 sub the only sub you have or any larger? Would it be ok in a home theater setup in a room say… 6x7m ?

    • +3

I wouldn't recommend the S6 for home theatre use. It's really meant for music / desktop use. We are investigating several options for a larger sub but i'm not sure when it will be available - ideally around the time we release our centre speaker (in around 2-3 months).

      • Thanks!

      • +1

Oh man, I'm really looking forward to the larger Sub! The little S6 does a good job of enhancing the B44s but it'll be great to see a larger one as an option. Fingers crossed it'll still be compact (10" or less) and affordable ($200-250 or less).

        • hear hear!

      • +1

Sweet! Was just talking to the missus about a 5.1 setup after getting an av receiver in the near future. Looking forward to the centre speaker and a larger sub OP. The s6 suffices in our 1 bedroom apartment living area at the moment (around 4m by 2m). Have never cranked up the volume on the mx3 over 50 as that gets a little too loud for the neighbours.

  • Hi OP,

Keen to get something to replace my current desktop speakers.

    A few questions:
    1. For a desktop setup, would you advice getting the B44 bundle or the A44? What would you personally pick for a desktop setup?
    2. How big of a difference will it be sound quality wise with/without a subwoofer?

    • +2

My personal pick would be the B44 bundle for the desktop. I personally like having an analogue volume control easily accessible (the A44 only has a volume control on the back so you need to use computer volume instead).

Sound quality is going to be better without the sub (the reason for this is that having a seperate sub to your speakers means the sound has to be filtered between them and it's never perfect, you also have the issue that the sound from the sub will be received to your ear at a different time to the sound from the speakers).

Of course how enjoyable something is to listen to isn't always about sound quality so to many people adding the sub will make the music sound fuller, warmer and more enjoyable. For me I find whether I want the sub on/off depends on the genre of music I'm listening to and even what kind of mood I'm in.

      • +1

Thank you for the advice! Looks like I'll be getting a B44 at 6pm!

      • Also looking to replace my desktop 2.1 speakers. Should I get the b44 by itself or with the amp?

        • +1

B44 are passive speakers - they wont work without an amp.

If you want the easiest possible plug and play solution go for the A44.

The Breeze Audio Bundle is also a very easy solution too but you can't add the S6 sub in that case.

        • @chiefbodge: thanks for the clarification, will take your advice above and get the B44 bundle

  • Could anyone recommend the best pair of speakers from this sale to pair with a Pioneer PIO-A10 (from a previous OzBargain sale)?

    Thanks

    • +1

We only sell one model of passive speakers - the B44, they're great speakers for the price though and will work great with your PIO-A10 :). Not sure about what else is available in the wider eBay sale.

      • Thanks ChiefBodge

  • Would the A44 work well with the Logitech Bluetooth adapter?

    • +3

Yep - it would work fine.

A44s are a great option for when you want to connect some kind of wireless audio system to it and just forget it (chromecast audio, bluetooth, amazon echo, google home, etc). I've had a pair in my kitchen plugged into an Amazon Echo for over a year now (just leave them on) without any issues.

If you don't have a bluetooth adaptor yet I like the Ugreen ones

      • Thanks, also for the Ugreen tip, $20 cheaper !

      • just wondering, can I leave an S6 plugged in and turned on 24x7, in the same way? I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to things like power consumption.

        • +1

Yes - the S6 uses a very similar design. Idle power consumption is under 1w.

  • Hi chiefbodge I’m not really savvy with audio, would the two speakers linked be any good for general listening to music? Would it be possible to plug my iPhone into the amp or alternately set up a Bluetooth connection to be able to use the speakers? Prob dumb q but like I said I’m a newbie to all of this stuff. Thanks

    • +2

Yep our B44s/A44s are great for music. Ideally when listening to any music you want the left and right speakers to be far enough apart as it will drastically improve the depth of the music.

If your iPhone is one of the ones that still has a 3.5mm headphone jack it will be easy to plug into our A44 (all cables included) or to one of our bundles you'll just need the right cable such as this

If you have one of the iPhones without a headphone jack you'll need to use the dongle or use bluetooth.

If you want to use bluetooth you can either buy one of our bluetooth amps and a pair of b44 speakers (SMSL AD18, Topping MX3, Topping VX3) or get a bluetooth receiver such as [this](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ugreen-4-1-Wireless-Bluetooth-Re…

If any of the above doesn't make sense please let me know and I can explain further.

  • Would B44 be ok for rear speakers in a home theatre 5.1 setup? Room is 4.4m x 3.6m and currently have 2 floorstanding Yamaha speakers (probably cheapest available at the time) + center and entry level Yamaha Receiver.

    • Absolutely - they make great home theatre speakers, you wont be disappointed!

  • +1

Always hard to tell without being able to have a listen, anyone know how these would compare to say, the Swan M50W's?

    • Swans are fine sounding speakers. I believe we compete pretty favourably (but take that with a grain of salt). I will say that from what I've heard our warranty is certainly better :)

      • Thanks. :)

Bias aside, I'm assuming you have had a listen to the Swans so are making a fair comparison?

        • +3

          Yeah - heard the M50w and M10.

I think (biased view) we're certainly better than the M10. The M50w it's a bit tougher to decide.

        • @chiefbodge: No worries, thanks again. :)

  • Any recommendations for an amp with USB output to pair with the B44s? I have a KVM switch with USB so I can work across my work and home computer at my desk, it'd be great if I could plug the speakers into it instead of swapping 3.5mm cables each time.

    • +2

If you don't need an integrated headphone amp my recommendation would be for the SMSL Q5 Pro.

If you do want headphone output then go with the Topping MX3 or SMSL AD18.

  • this might be a silly question, but how do these compare in sound quality to say, bluetooth speakers like JBL Flip 4, or UE Boom 2? even 2 of them in stereo?

    • In my opinion there's no comparison. While those mini speakers do an awesome job for their size they can't compete with decent quality full sized speakers. They do tend to have a certain sound though which makes them enjoyable to listen to (it's not at all flat though).

      • you got me.

        will place order tonight :)

guess my BT speaker can get moved to my bedroom

      • also because Voll sounds badass, like a boss i used to farm in Path of Exile

  • Hi do you guys mind uploading pdf user manuals (possibly with specs) of your products (amps and speakers etc) on your website if possible please. I had a quick look but couldnt find any. Just wanted to read through the manuals for various amps a bit before making a decision. thank you.

  • +2

Just wanted to say to chiefbodge, thank you for offering the B44s in Australia.
I am using 4 of them in my home theatre and they are amazing for the price.

I only wish you also did the "mb42x-c" centre channel speakers. For my home theatre, I actually imported one from the US, but would have loved to buy locally and also have the colour match the other speakers (but it's not that far off. so I don't mind that much).

I am using the Elac S10 for the sub and a Denon AVR-X1300W for the amp if anyone is interested.
Crossover for the speakers is set to 80 hz as per THX specifications. LFE+Main for the sub and LFE up to 120 hz.

Loving the sound from the Voll B44s. :)

    • +3

      Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately too late for you but we are releasing our centre speaker in a couple of months :) We also plan to be offering home theatre bundles with AVRs - brand and details not sorted yet. We're finding it incredibly hard to:

      a) Have any distributors supply us at all (due to being an online only business)
      b) Get pricing that allows us to be competitive

But hopefully we can sort out a good deal before the centre speaker lands.

      • +1

Keep us updated regarding the centre speaker, I have friends and family who come to me for audio advice and some are soon wanting to build their budget home theatre.

Guests are blown away by the sound when they visit my place, especially when I tell them how much I paid for the speakers. Then they tell me how much they spent on their "Home Theatre in a box" speakers from JB HIFI etc, usually more than what I paid for my B44s.

If you can put together a solid bungle at a good price, you would be set.

  • Just my luck have work/Dr's appointment/family stuff before I have a chance to get home … they'll all be sold by that time. :(

    • We have plenty of stock for most things.

Stock we're short on and may sell out quick is:

-Topping VX3 (these are discontinued from the manufacturer and I think we only have 3 left).
-SMSL SA36A, we're running quite low on these.
-PA3, we probably wont sell out but it is possible.

The other amps we have a fair bit of stock of.

We wont run out of : B44s, A44s, S6s or Breeze audio amps.

      • How to you compare the PA3 to the SMSL SA98E? They're the same chip but the SMSL is rated for twice the power, not sure how that works? Which do you recommend? Thanks!

        • +1

The PA3 power supply is lower voltage (32v vs 36v) - this I believe is the reason for the difference in power output. Power output on class D amps is a function of voltage and it's not linear.

The PA3 is still very powerful and unless you think you'll need the extra power I'd recommend it over the SA-98e for the following reasons:

          1) It looks better (i guess that's a bit subjective)
          2) It feels like better build quality
          3) It's less noisey (must either have a less noisey power supply or better input filtering)
          4) It has two inputs.

      • Am I good to order the MX3 later tonight?

        • We don't have a lot of MX3s, It really depends on how busy it gets.

We can get more MX3's pretty quickly though so if/once we sell out we may be able add a preorder listing if you are willing to wait an extra week or so for us to get more stock.

Edit: we've add a note to the listing that if the quantity remaining is 10 or lower it's considered a pre-order item.

        • Dr's are running late so I had time to get an order placed. Thanks.

  • Hi Rep,
Any recommendation to pair up to a chromecast audio? my current setup requires me to turn on the speaker before casting to it. For convenience, I would like to setup an "always-on" one, if possible at all?

    • +2

A pair of A44s would be ideal for that. They can be left on indefinitely without using much energy at all or generating any noticeable heat or noise.

Some double sided tape or sticky velcro to the back and you're set.

      • cheers, would you recommend with or without the s6 sub for mid sized living room?

        • +2

It depends on the genre of music you listen to and what you're used to. Personally I think it's great without the sub but many people will find a sub makes music more enjoyable to listen to, especially if you listen to EDM/Rap/classical.

For genres like metal/rock/folk/indie/country a sub really isn't going to make a huge difference.

    • +2

The built-in amps don't draw much so you can keep them on.
I have a friend who has the A44s connected to his Amazon Echo Dot and they run all the time without issue.

  • How do these compare Edifier R1700BT?
Also how would they compare to Soundbars such as the Yamaha YAS-107?

  • What version is the SMSL AD18 amp?

    • Not sure which version but all of our stock is maximum 1 month old direct from SMSL. It's the version with the subwoofer output.

  • Hi,

I am interested in purchasing the B44s + SMSL Q5 Pro + Sub. Is this a good combination? I do primarily listen to EDM/Hip Hop.

I currently have Logitech Z623 THX speakers, will these be better than them?

    Thank you

    • Hopefully someone who has heard both can chip in but in my (somewhat biased opinion) our B44s are way better than the Z623 (and they should be too: plastic enclosure with a small full range driver vs a proper MDF enclosure with tweeter/woofer and a crossover).

That said we do (very rarely) get customers who want to return their B44s because what they had before was better and that's fine, we're happy to accept returns. Audio can be very subjective.

      • Thanks for prompt response! As for the combination of B44s + SMSl Q5 Pro + S6 Sub, these will work together quite well?

        • Yes - it's a very good combination.

  • Does Voll B44 + Breeze Audio Speaker Bundle come with RCA cables?

    • Unfortunately not - we thought about including one but the length and type of cable varies greatly based on people's needs.

      We do sell:

      -3.5mm to RCA or
      -RCA to RCA

The A44, however does come with a 3.5mm to RCA.

      • I would love to have RCA to RCA included on top of Voll B44 + Breeze Audio Speaker Bundle for a special price, any chance rep? Thank you.

  • Hi would this work on say a hisense 65n7?
Ie are they TV speakers? How would they compare to a soundbar

    • +1

Better than most sound bars in my opinion but for general TV/light movie use the extra quality may not be noticeable.

The A44 comes with a 3.5mm to RCA cable which would plug in to the headphone/line out jack of your TV. For our other bundles and amp combinations you'd need to purchase a 3.5mm to RCA cable separately.

We do also have some amps that can be connected to the optical output of your TV (MX3, Q5 Pro, AD18) - but your TV must be capable of downsampling dolby audio to 2 Channel PCM (you'd need to check your TV's settings menu).

  • Im using my TV as a PC monitor. How would i go about enabling the speaker for TV use and also have it contacted for PC use?
