Yamaha Amplifier RXV567B $499 (Harvey Norman)

100

I managed to haggle the price of a new Yamaha 567B Amplifier for $499 normally $899… The best prices I could find elsewhere were as follows
a) JB's Ticket Price $899
b) Online Retailer $799
c) Refurbished model from a place in Hallam $549

So I thought this was a pretty good deal…

The key features I was after were as follows
a) HDMI 1.4
b) HDMI upscalling
c) 7.1 Sound

  • Looks like you got yourself a great deal. Judging by the receipt you uploaded, purchasing the 55" LED TV at the same time may have helped your negotiation. Might also be an idea to mention Harvey Norman in your title

    • Thanks added HN's to title.

Not sure if TV did help as I got the TV at a very very competative price (see my previous post) best price for TV elsewhere $2525.

Yeah, thanks for the contribution, but I think this is invalid considering the other purchases provides a better margin to play with. Other shops will let you purchase the whole bundle for the price you purchased at, but not the individual item.

I maybe misread your post, so just neg me if I did so ;)

    • i think youve hit the nail on the head…. awesome price because of extra purchase. It would be hard to go into HN and ask them to sell this amp for under cost.

Great price achieved by OP though (but not a bargain for the rest of us).

      • Please see my other deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36948 which relates to the TV…
I think you will find that the TV was sold under cost (and likely very little if any redemption) and that the AMP was just above cost. Spoke to the sales guy and he said that there is a huge mark up on Amps… When I was in Clive Anthony's in Frankston I asked what they could do the Amp for, they asked what price they needed to beat and I said I could get it for $549 (refering to the refurb model) I was just putting the price out there to the sales guy to see what he could do. They said they could do $540 - hence the reason I went in hard with Harvey Norman. Otherwise I would never have thought there was that much margin.

It is a great price but I think this is the price we should be now paying for this receiver anyway when you consider that you can buy it new in the U.S. for US$429 including shipping and our dollar has passed parity with the $US.

    • Why do people continually compare receiver prices here with the US? Their home theatre market is vastly larger than ours which allows retailers to push products with such low margins.

      • +1

Nope, Our/AU supply is substantially smaller which allows retailers to push products with such incredibly high margins/mark ups. Ask Gerry Harvey… There are a lot of smaller overseas markets with lower prices.

US price is usually used as reference of product value. E.g. a HT theater/camera/whatever with a regular price AUD $1000 and overseas price US$ 700 is still usually a better value comparing to AUD $1500 HT theater/whatever less crazy/one-day/below-cost/final clearance/whatever 35% discount which costs US$ 500 overseas.

        • well said.

comparing with US prices is very valid. some people resign to the "its not in australia so i cant get it for that price" attitude. but they fail to realise that american prices roughly indicate the item cost to retailers, and how much mark up they're selling with.

this is an ok deal. its about the cheapest you can get for a reasonable 7.1.

however i think most people are going with the 667, which is substantially better and is the current sweet spot if you're in the 500-1000 range.

its got discrete output stage, better power supply, and various other improvements over the 567.
