iPad 2017 9.7" Wi-Fi 128GB (Apple Certified Refurbished) $429 from Apple Store Online

220

Apple is selling refurbished models of their 2017 9.7" 128GB iPad for $429; a discount of $140, or 24% off.
Refurbished models are fitted with brand new batteries and outer shells by Apple and come with a 1 year warranty. In my experience the only thing that distinguishes them from buying a new model is the plain packaging they come in, rather than the standard Apple packaging.

Currently only the Gold model is available, but I have seen Silver and Space Grey popping up from time to time over the last couple of days: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/…

Compared to the just released 2018 model the difference is this has an A9 chip set rather than the newer A10 chip set and this does not support Apple Pencil, otherwise all specs are the same.
The new 2018 128gb wifi model retails for $599, and Officeworks has this 2017 model for $518 as per this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/370081. For me, $429 is the better deal if you're not worried about the box it comes in.

Yep, as stated in the description.

      • Can I use student discount for this one?

Unfortunately I don’t think you can with refurbished models.

  • I just want to un-brick my iPad 1 :(

    • +3

don't throw bricks at it than

      • But itunes deleted all my songs without asking and I was pissed off :/

It apparently doesn't have enough charge to charge.

You can get the battery replaced if you want to; 8 years is a long time to expect a battery to last. Probably better off selling it for parts on eBay and picking up a 2nd hand iPad Air or later.

        • yeah, we will be selling our gen3 on ebay when we get the new one with a10.

the older ones do eventually go end of ios updates.

    • My boys iPad 1 still runs great, Its annoying that cant install new versions of the games, but there is still enough on there for him to spends hours on it

  • The pencil is not cheap ($145.00) and doesn't come with the 2018 in the box so factor that into your buying decision too.

it doesn't come with a sharpener either - you have to buy your own!

    • Don’t forget about the eraser

    • The pencil might be a requirement in the next couple years for Schools. But at this point I cant see that being requested yet.

    • logitech are coming out with the “crayon” which is cheaper and has same functionality as the pen if it’s for your kids.

just wouldn’t look the part in a boardroom meeting, but then if it’s for business you’d get the pro from the IT trolls.

      • From memory it doesn't have that many pressure sensitivity levels. Just like a crayon :D

        • yeah , you wouldn’t take the crayon to the board meeting ….. for professional use people would get the ipad pro, pen and it’s paid for by work and it comes as 128gb, 256gb to match and sync with iphones.

heck they were handing out surface pros when they first came out to everyone who wanted one in our agency when i was is government.

Apparently the 'crayon' is only going to be available for purchase through schools though. I'm sure a bunch of sellers on eBay will clone it in no time though.
