Is this the company that bribes its customers to write five star reviews? Or is that one of the other fifty online mattress companies?

    • +3

This is the very reason for my question, online reviews do seem a little too good to be true.

    • +3

If you read them too, it's mostly about how good their customer service is and less about the mattress

@Lorindor: Behind their backs? He is doing it on a public forum. And he is right to do so, because (if you bothered to follow my link above), Koala has been caught out paying people for reviews. ProductReview caught onto it, and for a while displayed a banner at the top to warn users that reviewers had received an incentive to post.

And what is wrong with questioning the legitimacy of illegitimate reviews?

Sigh…. We live in a Trump world, where people deceive, and those pointing it out get attacked….

        • @Make it so: Well said.

Thanks for cherry-picking my comment, allow me to retort.

And he is right to do so, because (if you bothered to follow my link above), Koala has been caught out paying people for reviews.

I can't believe (or can I?) that you took the time of day to thoroughly research the legitimacy of their online reviews, and only managed to find a couple of posts of customers on whirlpool that say they were offered incentives, or as you stated, coerced (you know that means they were threatened, right?) to post a positive review.

And what is wrong with questioning the legitimacy of illegitimate reviews?

It's barely questioning it, it's simply jumping on the bandwagon with every other conspirary nut and filling in your/their day.

Sigh…. We live in a Trump world, where people deceive, and those pointing it out get attacked….

Calm down, no one was attacked, but going by your logic, I should be free to question those that question, no?

Could anyone share their experience with these mattresses? Especially those who own them for a couple of years or more.
Considering their generous 120 days money back guarantee I’m more interested in how long the matress stays firm/comfy for (before sinking in).
I know I could read all the praises and worships about Koala on productreview.com.au and au.koala.com itself but I’m keen to hear actual people on Ozbargain’s thoughts.

I got one about 3 years ago after reading all the reviews. It wasn't a koala mattress but a similar company.

I had a fairly sensitive back and hit the company up after a few months about the firm mattress as I was using the medium. They sent me a firm mattress topper free of charge and advised me to just zip off the medium and keep it somewhere in case i ever want to change it back.

Nothing about has changed so far. Still get a great nights sleep and it's super comfy.

I do remember receiving an email from them saying 'if you love our mattress, please leave a review on productreview.com' but there was no financial gain for doing so.

I still recommend the mattress to people when the subject comes up.

      • They sent you a firm mattress topper or a firm mattress?
Do you know if we can buy the firm mattress topper?

        • topper. The top of the mattress just zips off.

Who did you buy the mattress from? when i contacted the company I bought mine from they told me they don't charge people, they just send it.

    • Bought one a few months ago, and my wife and I have been very happy. It's definitely different to a "normal" spring mattress, so it did take a few nights to get used to. We both agree now that it's more comfortable than the mattress that it replaced.

150 off is pretty standard with these companies

  • any one who are thinking to buy, U can now try these at few Myer stores, we tried and changed our mind as they are too soft at edges and often lets u fall

    • Agree. I tried it out and it's very soft. Ended up going with the Ecossa and very happy with it

      • so, can you please let me know Ecosa mattress is firmer than koala mattress,
cos I am looking firm one that I have back pain, thanks.
        P.S $250 off $849 at the moment.

        • Much firmer. Highly recommended. Let me know how you go.

        • @mooribbit: thanks for that, I will order tonight for tomorrow delivery,

    Overpriced Garbage

  • I needed to buy a new mattress a few days ago for a guest bed, and bought another Ergoflex (similar material at same density as Tempur). 3 minutes after I bought it, I realised they sell it at the same price on eBay, which meant I could have used the 5% off code and Cashrewards… So check whether the mattress you intend to buy is for sale on eBay too.

    • Have you the zzz range? They're pretty good for half the price

  • KZ KOALA!!

  • I read about these before i chose a mattress but ultimately ended up buying one from regal sleep solutions a few years ago and it's the most comfortable bed i've ever used, 5 star hotels even.. I still prefer my bed! best money I ever spent. I find myself constantly going and just relaxing in bed for a bit when i'm bored because it's so friggen cosy. Matched with bamboo sheets and doona cover (get on that, much better than egyptian cotton) it's heaven.

Wasn't cheap, cost $1400 for king size ensemble (on sale) but i've never regretted the money for a second.

I noticed after reading this page that the product review page for regal is also "suspiciously good" but I can vouch for the fact that I adore mine and i've never been contacted to leave a review. I was so happy with the service on the day I bought it though that I went out of my way to leave one on their facebook page, so hopefully it's legit.

    • Is the king size bed their top of range? I went in to their shop the other day and saw it was on sale for 3600!! Granted they are comfy AF but $3600 for a mattress is outside of my league.

      • Nah we didn't go for their absolute top range, I actually went and fished out our receipt out of curiosity, turns out we spent more than I thought haha. We paid $2500 all up for the mattress and base (RRP for the mattress alone was $3199 though, it seems like it's gone up in price now to $4,599 for the same one.. though they may have changed by now)

        https://regalsleepsolutions.com.au/products/wellness-mattres…

We purchased this one in the king size, maybe they're prices changed drastically but we apparently got "any size for the price of a single" yet the single size is currently $3,399 and we only payed $1,700 + 500 ish for the base.. maybe there was a sale price as well as a deal to pay the price of a single.. who knows. I guess we got a good deal..

        • Thanks for digging out the receipt.

Although it does seems like a pretty standard tactic for a mattress company to heavily mark up their RRPs and smashed it down 50%. I asked one of the sales person and he wouldn't do anything lower than $3000 for a RRP $4500 bed. So it definitely looks like you got yourself a great deal!

  • I haven't had any issues with mine, I bought mine about 3+ months ago. It's a firm mattress so going from a soft - medium firm spring mattress took a little getting use to be yeah haven't had an issue with mine.

I got mine during the boxing day sale which was the same price ($900 for Queen).
I also have a mate that bought his around the same time and he hasn't had an issue with his either.

I was told by the delivery driver that they donate the returned mattresses (ones returned within the 120 night trial period) to the homeless, whether that's true or not I don't know

  • We bought this over the weekend, mostly based on the fact it was the second highest (93%) in the Choice reviews (first was Sealy Posturepedic Aspire Vogue Deluxe, 95% for $3,199). Interestingly the Choice customer reviews were much worse and completely contradictory (it's too hard, vs it's too soft, etc). It took eight hours to arrive rather than the quoted four, and there is a bit of a smell to it, but our review after the first night is favorable.

    • They had 3 layers at first, which was on the softer side. They changed it to a 2 layer version which many people complained were too hard, so they changed it back to the softer version

  • We bought a Koala and returned it after 90 days. If you're used to spring style mattresses this is quite a change and did not agree with the pregnant wife and her comfort levels.
I found the bed to be a bit hot and slightly too firm.
We've since switched to an ergoflex, we have no plans to return this one, going good after 60 days so far, the wife is definitely more comfortable and I am much happier with how this mattress feels.
I would not recommend Koala. No problems with their customer service and return process, however, it was just not for us.
Bear in mind that this discount is offered almost all the time. We managed to get $250 off our price.

    • +1

Bonus 17.50 from cash rewards for koala.

While they may have increased discount from $100 to $150 but you can always have that from their chat agent.

IMO better to purchase from Myer as you will get Myer points and have a feel before purchase and price is always $150 less

  • I tried one of these & thought it was very comfortable with the exception of the soft edge.
Being a edge sleeper sometimes it was no good for me.

The wife flat out hated it (said it was too hot for her) so we ended up with a firm micro-coil/memory foam top queen from Beds R Us.

I would definitely try one as it's free pickup/refund from memory and you get a koala bear toy for the kids to fight over.
