    REFURB U2717D: $360

How much is it normally for a refurbished U2717D?

    • +2

A year ago some folks got keen to pay $430 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/308864

I'm tempted but it's such a hard descision with a 1 year warranty on something that's refurbished. If it breaks after a year and a day is it going to be an uphill battle to get the ACCC and the reasonable-expectation-warranty to come save me?

      • Worth noting that the $430 was for 'as new' condition but these are listed as refurb, so it's not exactly the same thing

BTW I asked one of the sales reps about the pixel guarantee, they said that the same Premium Panel Guarantee applies (so that should be zero bright pixels on the Ultrasharps), but is limited to the 1 year duration of the warranty

      • I had a dell refurb laptop die a few months after 1 year warranty and it was still repaired, no questions asked. It took a few weeks and the data was wiped, but dell didn't try to side step their obligations under ACL at all.

        • Ugh the hell with it then, I'll buy one. I won't expect them to do anything after a year but hopefully it's likely that if it doesn't die within a year then it won't die within three.

        • @hetzjagd:

Make sure you use a credit card that gives you extended warranty cover, so then you're good for 2 years.

        • @salmon123:

Hadn't thought about this before but from what I can see my Bankwest Platinum card will give me an extra year warranty. Thanks, that's really handy

Now I just gotta hope I can get to the front of this queue and that they will still be available

          /edit/ nope too late

  • when do they update stock on the site? or is it just random?

    • Random - only way to know is to chat with one of the reps.

I had a chat with one of the Reps from Dell yesterday they mentioned if at all there is a problem with the product - we only have the option to return the product at our cost and a restocking fee of 15% applies to the product. I specifically asked whether I can get it repaired at a local dealer, I was refused. Hopefully such a problem doesn't happen to anyone - just warning.

    • Restocking fee's of a percentage seems illogical… a 24" 1080p vs a 24" 4k Gsync would be theoretically same size box, presumably same paperwork, but the cost would be dramatically different? thanks for the heads up.

I assume this would be more for a 'change of mind' type return. If there was an actual fault or it was of unacceptable quality it should be covered by their warranty or the consumer law. Probably best to clarify this with them before purchase.

Why would they restock a defective product?

If you have a problem with the product, i.e. change of mind, then that makes sense.

But for an defects, items from the outlet generally come with a 12 month warranty, and beyond that you could argue that it should still be covered given they warrant their off-the-shelf products for longer.

      • 04/04/2018 05:15:04PM Me: "Also in case there is a problem with the product can i return it or take it to an authorised Dell service centre within the 1 year warranty period"

04/04/2018 05:16:13PM Agent (Kunal_dhall): "You may return the unit with-in 15 days from the date of purchase but there might be a fee of 15% may apply as a restocking fee."

Thats the brief of the conversation, I believe my question was pretty clear but the response was not.

          The rep is definitely clueless.

        • @r0xz:

Yup - I returned items as change of mind and no restocking fee was charged.

  • Thanks OP, bought Dell 22 Monitor-P2217H21.5 @ $133ish

  • cheers - picked up some U2717Ds

  • Personal experience:

Got a refurb u2415h from dell outlet. Should be clear that it was refurbished from inside (function), but definitely not from the outside.

Was thinking this monitor might just come back from a war zone, and the screen base holder sent to me was designed for another model and was not working at all.

Returned it the same day I received it, hassle free but the whole return process took about a month.
