  • I don't know heaps about chainsaws, but just a heads up, if you do go for something cheaper in terms of a chainsaw I'd recommend getting a decent aftermarket bar and chain and replacing the ones that come with the saw by default. That's just me, of course everyone will do whatever suits them, but I'm just not sure how much I'd trust the Ozito bar or chain quality and It'd be awful if someone got hurt.

Does that seem like a reasonable suggestion or do people think that the bar and chains would be alright?

Ultimately I think if you're going to go for a chainsaw get a Stihl or Husqy, better yet if you don't need one avoid them and use a handsaw, they're just so unforgiving.

The bars used to be Oregon and chains are cheap but if you get some files and keep it sharp and maintained it should be ok.
When people use them blunt and start pushing instead of being prepared for kickback it's worse.

At least watch some safety hints on YouTube and
Keep some hi-flow pads handy and a belt.

Cheap bars and chains work OK, but they get blunt and wear out much quicker. A cheap bar and chain is much safer than an expensive bar and chain that is not tensioned correctly, and there are a lot of people who used chainsaws with way too much chain slack.

      get a Stihl or Husqy

I would agree, but if you're doing some limbing a few times a year, spending 3x the price on a stihl or husquvarna (echo are good too) isn't always worth it. The better brands last a long time, most people won't use them enough to wear out a cheap one.

Serious question, how well would a chainsaw serve as a home defence weapon? It would be a pretty good deterrent for any physical engagement imo. I'd piss my pants if the person I whose house I was invading pulled out a chainsaw.

If you're intruder doesn't mind waiting 5-10 minutes whilst you start it, it should be fine.

      • So you need electronic ones with a big battery handy. Instant start lol

  • Excellent price!

  • I owned one of these and they are a right royal pain to get started.
Ozito even issued a note about how the difficulty was due to the design and not to follow the official manual.
Prepare for headaches, however your mileage… may vary. :) Good luck!

    • That's bad when even the manufacturer issues a note saying that their product is rubbish by design.
