1090

Wunderlist Pro is now free as of 4 April (see link below).
Wunderlist Pro gives you Ad Free, Unlimited Assigning, Unlimited Files and Unlimited Subtasks.
Available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows, Kindle Fire and the Web.

How can I get Wunderlist Pro?

As of April 4, 2018 we are no longer charging for Wunderlist Pro. Since we are no longer charging for Wunderlist Pro, the service is no longer available for purchase. Instead, you can simply log in with your existing Wunderlist account to access all Pro features.

Previous pricing here.

Edit:
FYI - Wunderlist is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft have been building a new (and free) app called To-Do (which isn't anywhere near as good yet) but is being developed by the same team that built Wunderlist. I guess because Wunderlist will eventually become To-Do, they have stopped charging for Wunderlist Pro subscriptions. This would suggest that To-Do will likely take over within one year.

Don't get too attached. No doubt this will go away once Microsoft Todo is properly established.

    • +1

True, but I feel the more users of Wunderlist, the more likely they'll integrate more of Wunderlists' features into To-Do.

      • +17

Lol. Nah, they'll just add a ribbon menu, remove some features, then call the job done. 24 months later they'll stop supporting it because the userbase went elsewhere, as they've done with a few things now

        • Yeah, they just destroyed Minecraft, didn't they? It's now a complete fail.

        • +1

you forgot the bit where they add some interesting undocumented features such as crashing, random losing items, min requirements are a supercomputer to run, name your first child Bill, etc

        • +1

Yes, also they stopped Age of Empires Online, even though it was widely and regularly used

        • +3

Microsoft is going to be so angry when they find out that you've revealed their whole game plan.

However, you missed the cute quirk where they make an even lesser version for Mac.

        • @Superninja418:
loved the game and even had dlc for it too :(

    • This like saying Expedia will shutdown wotif, cheaptickets, hotels.com, venere, Orbitz because they are offering same thing. Or Facebook will remove WhatsApp because similar to fb messenger. I think it depends how many users are using to decide.

      • +1

Well to be fair they have a track record… Sunrise Calendar, Acompli email… etc.

        • +3

          don't forget Nokia.

      • +4

Microsoft don't need to shut things down entirely, usually they just run them into the ground until they're not useful.
        e.g. SwiftKey, Skype

        • yes except for the case of Skype it's a bit complicated. I'd love to say they butchered the product but it seems like they just had a bigger fish to fry in the form of corporate A/V communication and just gave up on consumers (which was a correct move too given they could never beat Google/Apple/FB). Skype (aka Lync) is absolutely killing it on the corporate side of things.

    • Microsoft also says, though, that Wunderlist will be retired once Microsoft To-Do "incorporate[s] the best of Wunderlist"—so eventually, you'll have to switch.

  • Thanks OP, have downloaded on my mobile and PC, interested in giving it a go.

Have installed To-Do as well to compare.

  • +1

I loved wunderlist but moved to todoist as this will shut down soon.

    • Todoist isn't nearly as good though.

      • I tried wunderlist, I could never get used to it after being on todoist for a while. I guess i just got used to it, but I can never find anything as good as todoist. I just want to be able to write "ev week day starting +30 days" and have it working.

    • I did the same.

  • +2

What's their revenue model now they are no longer charging ? Harvesting our personal data and selling it, a la Facebook?

    • +3

Wunderlist is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft have a new app called To-Do (which isn't as good yet) but is being developed by the same team as Wunderlist. Because To-Do wil lbe taking over from Wunderlist, they have stopped charging for Wunderlist Pro subscriptions. This would suggest To-Do will likely take over within a year.

      • Oh OK. That's reassuring. Thx.

      • +1

        this is stupid.

Why make a new app that is nowhere as good as wunderlist?

        Just rename wunderlist to "Todo".

    • -4

Microsoft do own an ad business so of course.

For the first time recently I recieved spam from Google into Gmail explaining that my life was terrible because I wasn't using Google Calendar so I imagine Google wants to monetise these users with ads before MS.

    • Don't make a fuss over it. Using a search engine allows the company to collect your info. And then one place announces a data leakage and everyone's email l running around in high heels

    • Microsoft: "revenue model? C'mon son."

  • Is there any system that I can create a main object and create To Do under it? Instead of all the To Do list is separated?

    Like

    • Server1
      • Install Windows
      • Install SQL
        etc
        etc
    • Wunderlist absolutely does it (as do many others, To-Do, ToDoist etc).

      • Let me try.

        It would be better like

        Company A
        - Server 1
        - To do 1
        - To do 2

        Company B
        - Workstation 1
        - To do 1
        - To do 2

        • No idea about Wunderlist, but it should support it since most of the others do, e.g. Trello breaks things down to 3 levels: Boards, Cards and Lists inside the cards. But that's as deep as you can go.

If you need deeper you'll need something like OneNote, which has Notebook Groups, Notebooks, Note Groups, Notes, Subpages (2 levels) and then within those the checklists.

There was one app that supported an infinitely nested list, but I can't remember which one (it was impractical anyway, and there was no UI that allowed you to make any useful sense out of it).

        • @zzyss:

          Thanks

Wunderlist doesn't support more than one level. Let me check out Trello later.

I want something that can create Companies, Objects under that company, outstanding and completed tasks under that object.

          Not that complicated.

        • +1

I find workflowy an excellent hierarchical task manager.

Deceptively simple and deviously feature rich.

        • @ckc: How much does it cost? They have no pricing page that I could see

        • @ckc:

Thanks except only add a small note, I hope they have option to allow put it more details for particular objects like a card.

        • Try Todoist - it does this very well , being able to nest up to 3 levels of projects.

        • +1

@abb: I only use the free version (default when you sign up). Personally never needed any other features.

Upgrading to Workflowy Pro gives you extra features. Price and features can be found here.

        • @superforever: I'm not sure if this addresses your card question but you can add commentary, hyperlinks, tags etc… to each item. I don't think you can display lists as cards though, if that is important to you.

        • @ckc: Great, thanks. I still can't see the pro price, but the free version sounds enough for me :)

        • @abb: Hmm yes…sorry!

          $4.99/mo or $49/year (both USD).

    • +1

I was also going to recommend Workflowy.

Been quite happy with another Melbourne based startup called Listium if anyone's looking for an always-free-option.

    • +2

Thanks for the mention, @wying17. I'm the founder of Listium, and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has. Also, we are always free for 99% of functionality, and have a very cheap paid plan (currently $3/mo… we have to make money somehow!). But we are more about growth than revenue for now, so I'm more than happy to offer free credit to any Ozbargainers who try us out and like us enough to give an upvote to the comment that I am replying to, or share a link on social media, etc. :)

  • What benefits does Microsoft To-Do have (or this) over using Google Calendar?

    • It's a todo list not a calendar?

      • GC let's go add "to do" to a certain day and then it keeps pushing over to the next day if you don't mark it as complete.

        • GC task list is a total joke in comparsion to the major players but watch out for that space. Google is about to get serious in it (seeing Google Task is a rumored app now).

    • To do syncs with outlook tasks
If anybody has tried doing that with android apps before, you will probably know what a nightmare it is
Can't see wl doing it, can it be done?

  • Looooooove Wunderlist. The Pro features don't seem to add that much though, maybe I should try using the features as intended more. But that's half of what I like about the app, that you can do logical things and the app sorts it out for you, you don't have to learn to speak its language like so many other organiser apps.

  • I just use the Notes app. Thousands of notes all over the place, dozens of folders :(

  • Thanks OP!

Oh dear lord there goes my marriage. Best app for grocery list sharing ever.

    • Wife and I share lists as sms messages. Works fine. There you go. Marriage saved.

Tried to use a couple of different shopping list apps like GotMilk once. Was overkill.

      • But but but Wunderlist's list is live…and we can tick it off if we grab something so we don't double up and the other gets updated. SMS just isn't the same! I tried GotMilk too, it hurt my mind.

        • it's certainly not as convenient but a message "I got, milk, bread, and buscuits." would fulfil the same role.

I like the idea of being able to keep a shared list. I don't like having to share it via a 3rd party, or that as you've seen they can just take away the software at any time. It's a tradeoff.

        • @syousef: That's very true, and it seems to happen with all my favourite apps!

        • +1

          @MissG:

Large companies seem incapable of managing apps without ruining them.
Small ones get bought out by large ones.
Open source loses traction once the core developers leave or die. A few projects do find a worthy successor.

I just tried both Wunderlist and ToDo and couldn't get either to export or import a list as plain text. (Wunderlist did have an obnoxious print function)

I feel better off using a plain text editor, as clunky as that is :( Yes I know I won't get reminders, and marking off and sorting tasks is painful.

        • @syousef: This is going to blow your mind: http://todotxt.org/

        • @misu p:

Thanks for sharing. Neat little program. The prioritization commands is mildly interesting. But from the demo I'm not seeing a hell of a lot I couldn't do manually with vi, cat and grep.

A todo Google doc on Google Drive or Dropbox gives you a lot of the same things and add the ability to share (at the expense of privacy associated with using a cloud service).

What you won't get that Wonderlist gives is reminders on your calendar and ease of editing.

  • Great. I am going to assign more stuff for my cat to do.

Love Wunderlist! Been using it for years! Love that edited notes/lists don’t get pushed to the top like Apple Notes and Evernote. Although I admit I’d like it even more if Wunderlist allows uploading pictures. Maybe the PRO version supports it?

Edit: the standard version already allows attaching photos! Yay!

  • I love Wunderlist but since I started using Trello for projects, I had to adopt Todoist because they (Todoist - Trello) integrate via IFTTT. If Wunderlist would integrate I would swap back in a jump.

    • I have Wunderlist working with IFTTT so that I can use the Google Assistant to add items to lists.

    • Would love to hear more about your Trello-Todoist workflow!

  • this is sad news for users, but good for the Wunderlist guys obviously. Inevitable really if you build something right.

The apps have a great balance of features vs simplicity and they work pretty well across all platforms.

  • I love wunderlist, better than To Do

  • The big advantage Wunderlist has over its coming replacement To-Do is that you can easily share the list with colleagues/friends/family. It is possible to share To-Do but it involves sharing your account, which ain't good with colleagues…. maybe okay with family.

To-Do has an advantage in that you can sort the completed tasks, which great for recurring things such as shopping lists.

  • Is this a bargain if it is actually free?

  • I believe Astrid To-Do is a better option. Multiple reminder options and settings without losing simplicity. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tasks

Option to hide tasks until x days before due is great.

    • Yeah Love Astrid To-Do. Wish the snooze had better options (e.g. like Google's Inbox) but yeah it's minimal and works very well.

  • +1

does this have any benefits over Evernote?

    • +1

Wunderlist is a to do list, not just a list of things. You have due dates etc, things that at least Evernote does not really have from what I know.

      • Evernote does have a function to add an alarm (set date/time) to notes, which could be used as a 'due date'.

        • Recurring tasks for me is a difference, I have a lot of them to remind me to:
water the garden 2 times a week
          fertilize it every 3 months
          take out the garbage
spray around the house for roaches every 6 months
remember to pay some bills every month
          cleanup my emails :)
          bill clients
see some series when it comes out

I even put in there some things like:
call my grandma - I know that things like this should come without a reminder but it has made a difference for me

        • @misu p: Oh cool. I think I'd find this useful as well. Thanks for your insight :)

      • Ahk cool, thanks. I guess between evernote and the reminder app on my iphone, I'm pretty covered. Won't need a third app.

  • *Unlimited Files????

    Surely they don't mean that

  • I don't understand why MS is focusing on To-Do and why it's more popular. Wunderlist seems so intuitive though, I like the interface.

    • Microsoft says, though, that Wunderlist will be retired once Microsoft To-Do "incorporate[s] the best of Wunderlist"—so eventually, you'll have to switch.

  • Is it worth swapping of Todoist? Or pretty similar?

    • Similar but different. You really have to give it a go to know. But if you're happy with Todoist I'd stick with that.

  • -1

For iPhone users. Do you guys find this better than Notes or reminders or Evernote? Dun know if I need so many apps for just making a to do list.

    • Wunderlist is a to do list, not just a list of things. You have due dates etc, things that at least Evernote does not really have from what I know.

  • I've been using Wunderlist since they weren't acquired by Microsoft, tried the pro trial but free was enough for me. Still use it till today and for me it's the best to do list app ever. One of the must have app on my phone.
