Nokia 8 - $578 JB HI-FI. Good price to local stock.

Design
The Nokia 8 has a 5.3-inch display and averages 7.3 mm thick and 4.3 mm thick at the edges. It is available in four colors: Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel. The device features a full-length graphite-shielded copper cooling pipe that is designed to pull the heat away from the Snapdragon 835 chip and dissipate it across the full length and breadth of the smartphone. The phone is not water-resistant, but is IP54 splash-resistant.

Hardware
Nokia 8 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, backed by either 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage (Tempered Blue, Steel and Polished Copper-coloured models), or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage (Polished Blue). Both are expandable with microSD cards. The QHD display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The device includes the USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port for charging and data transfer (up to 5 Gbit/s).[citation needed]

Cameras and multimedia
Nokia 8 is the first Nokia-branded phone to feature a dual-lens camera system. The rear camera module includes a set of two 13 MP sensors, of which one is an RGB sensor, and the other a monochrome sensor. The rear camera is equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, an IR rangefinder, and a dual-LED flash.

The front and rear cameras' combined standout feature is an advanced dualphotographic image camera (rebranded "Bothie" by Nokia), where the cameras can be used simultaneously by dividing the screen into a split-image setup, a technology Nokia calls Dual-Sight mode. Both the front and main cameras use ZEISS optics.

Video recording can be done in resolutions of 2160p at 30fps (4K) and 1080p at 30fps (FHD), with single-touch live streaming to social networks. The cellphone contains several microphones able to record spatial audio 360° with binaural audio codecs, providing high fidelity playback through OZO Audio technology, which was derived from the Nokia OZO camera. The phone is equipped with a single rear mounted loudspeaker, so is not fully Dolby Atmos compatible.

It is equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and Bluetooth. These audio outputs use the OZO spatial audio playback to produce high quality 360° surround sound from two speakers(or ear buds) and use decoding standards compatible with Dolby Atmos and other earlier surround sound standards.

Software
Like the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, it ran a near-stock version of Android 7.1.1 "Nougat" on release. One difference is the camera mobile app, so as to cater for the phone's Dual-Sight feature. It also comes with an always-on display, similar to Nokia's previous Glance Screen on the Nokia Lumia series.

On 24 November 2017, HMD started rolling out a partial (it will not include the Treble feature for device independent system updates) software upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo. The main rollout was phased over two days, however some network operators will release the software upgrade in the following weeks.

On 13 February 2018, Nokia released Android 8.1 Oreo for the Nokia 8.

    +1 for detailed post.

  • Due to be superseded by the Nokia 8 Sirocco in the next couple of months so the price may drop further. The other nokia models are being updated also.

    • The Sirocco is not a superseding model. It's a more premium version for a different group of customers.

$464 here with 1 year Aus warranty - https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/nok8-64gbp-blue-ins-p-9… if people are looking to save $110

Plus around $75 shipping… That's how some of these places get their cheap listings to show up first, it's a pretty dodgy practice.

Jeebus, I missed that, shocking. I was just looking for a local seller that offered an Aus warranty. Personally I've bought all my phones for me and Mrs Texan from overseas the last few years, saved a lot of money and touch wood, haven't had any warranty issues. Sellers like DWI, who I have bought several phones from, even offer Aus warranty - https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/nokia-8-4gb-ram-64gb-du…

As an alternative, $475 at catch.com.au with free shipping, Hong Kong stock.

the last time i ordered a new tablet from Becextech, I received a 2nd hand/tampered one which had the original seal sealed over (and fingerprints on the device). No response from the seller when i raised the issue.

I recommend staying clear from this company

      • thank you to let me know.

      • They probably purchase cheap carrier locked models then open the box to change the language to English, do a carrier unlock and put an AU power supply in the box.

  • How does camera compare against other flagship phones such as iphone X, huawei mate 10 etc?

    • Not as good. Improved by using different software, but… A new camera app is coming in the 8.1 update, but haven't received that yet.

Can price match at Officeworks to get extra 5% off.

  • Ugh I really want this. Good specs with stock android is amazing.

But I just can't get over those big ass ugly bezels. Surely they could have made them a bit smaller? Going to wait for the nokia 7 plus instead.

    • …and yet some people love the notch. I can handle bezels. If I bought one with a notch would spend the first 2 months hating the phone.

      • I can handle bezels too. But these are huge. Like I said, surely they could've made them a bit smaller.

    • This is the 2017 model, not the new Nokia 8 Sirocco.
      Not 100% pure Andriod.

      • Yeah you know what I meant, it's close enough to stock lol. It's not like it's running a full fledged custom interface like Xiaomi etc

  • Nokia is back!!

    • Interestingly, as a company, a lot of the old OG Nokia from the early 00's are back there.

  • FYI, Aussie version is not dual Sim enabled even they are physically the same one. Flashing rom could be possible but not as I'm aware of.

  • This is $569.05 delivered @ Officeworks eBay w/PULL5.. They were also selling it for $578 a couple of days ago however that sale has now ended. You can also try price matching as mentioned above

  • It is $538 now! (Likely price matching Officeworks)

    • Never mind, back to regular pricing at JB HiFi now. (Although still can get $538 + extra 5% discount with Officeworks eBay)
