  • difference between blue and green?

    • +14

They both belong to the Cyan family of colours - its really just different shades

get green - blue is better but doesn't do itself any favours for only offering a 3 yr warranty.

For that price range you'd be better off with the Crucial MX500 range.

Green is a no-frills drive capped at 240gb and priced reasonably so for that price range covered by a household name, i'd be happy to make do with the warranty period.

Also worth considering the new intel 545 SSDs which are also very competitively priced.

      • How about Samsung EVO850? How does it compare to Crucial MX500?

        • Samsung is a bit better offering great endurance/reliability and customer support but they generally the same.

        • Pretty much what nefereski said - probably safe to say that Samsung have been the pioneers since the start of the SSD era and this is pretty random but it's like Roger Federer in his prime but in recent times the crucial and the Toshiba and I'd like to throw hynix in as well as they're very very good but so far been the prime OEM suppliers for DELL.

Back to Samsung - aoart from them still being number 1 (although I think I read a recent review stating the mx500 tests were said to be on par with the 850 evo I oresume)

Here's one interesting aspect that I've heard too many times to disregard - the use of Samsung's data migration software is probably the best there is and is strictly limited to usage only when a Samsung drive is involved.

Others such as WD who provides you with a paid version of Acronis which is good too apparently is still no match for a no frills drive clone utility with ppl claiming a near perfect strike rate for the Samsung software.

Only tried it once and yes it worked but I'm not fussed as I was used just used to the free ones like the classic macrion. But yeah the success rate on the samsung software is said to work on any given circumstance.

Oh yeah crucial has theirs too but didn't bother with it as I was too used to using the generics.

Good that they're finally dropping Ryzen prices, but with Ryzen 2 coming out next week and launch prices looking extremely competitive, this might not be worth it when you can spend another $30-$40 to get a 15% performance improvement out of the box.
