  • I use my Australian account and transfer it over to US to buy something over there.
Just search for an app (via Google) that is only in the store you are requesting
    - eg Walmart for US
    - eg Gumtree / Yahoo7 for AU

Don't see why you would pay more than the face value?

    • Sorry I am not sure what you mean by transfer over to the US. Are you indicating that you use a separate iTunes account or change the region of your existing Australian account? As it seems like a hassle to change the country, especially if you have iTunes credit or ongoing subscriptions.

This isn't more than face value. This is USD $10 for AUD $10.37.

      • Ok what I meant was "transferring stores" not changing your country or region.

And yes it is more than face value. I can (could) use Australian iTunes GC's and then transfer store over. That way it's only $10 maximum.

YMMV but still worked for me when I tried it about a month ago, and has (had) been working for several years.

        • Ah I see, I had no idea you could use an Australian iTunes Balance for another region/countries' iTunes store. So are you indicating that you can convert $10 AUD balance to become $10 USD balance or does it end up being about $7.78 USD balance from conversion rates?

          Thanks for sharing this!

@Detective Pikachu: whenever I did it (note I always have to speak in past tense because I haven't done this for a while) it would come up as $10.00 balance still.

Did this because everything is much cheaper in US app store.
          No probs :)

          Cool beans!

        • @pennypincher98: Could you be more clear on how to do that?

          @Detective Pikachu:

You can't use Australian iTunes Balance on the USA store. These people thinking that you can are dreaming. It's like saying you can use an Australian bank note at a store in the USA.

@hollykryten: It's possible that they may have got it patched but you aren't changing the country/region. That requires stuffing around.

It still works simply type Walmart into Google click on the second app and this message will come up.

        • @pennypincher98:

That's not making a payment on the USA store using Australian currency balance. That's just opening up the item on the USA store and you need to have a USA account and USA currency balance to pay for that.

@hollykryten: how do you expect me to prove using an Australian gift card for an American store??
If you come up with a way that works, keen to hear it.

          @pennypincher98:

There's no such thing as using iTunes Australian currency balance on the USA store.

You obviously had an iTunes USA account with some USA currency balance on it. Did you some time in the past make a USA account with some credit on it using the same email address and password in the past and forgot about it?.

I can 100% guarantee that it was an Australian gift card. I have never purchased gift cards overseas. It was from Coles actually so unless they suddenly have a random American iTunes card??

Stop trying to be belittling, I know full well what I did thank you.

        • @pennypincher98:

The Walmart iTunes app is free so this is why it allowed you to get it. It had nothing to do with any money currency since it was free. No money charged.

I can tell you right now. You can not buy a purchased app being charged in $USD credit currency on the iTunes USA store using $AUD credit currency. It will never even recognise Australian currency credit to begin with.

Man this has been a troll.

@hollykryten: Find me an app only on the US app store thats paid and I'll show you.

That same message comes up. It allows you to purchase.

But I don't want you to give me more negs so I'll not tell anyone.

    • Not sure what you're on to there mate, but iTunes Store has always had region locking. You can't use store credit bought in a certain country (and currency) at another country's store. What's the point of setting up regions and different pricing if users can use AUD to buy something that's listed in USD?

Thats why my little disclaimer was that I could, not that I can.

Works for me at least. I bought an app off the US store using an Australian gift card. Obviously credit cards won't work but this seemed to.

It still works simply type Walmart into Google, click on the second app and this pops up.
