If thats the RRP then this seems quite good.

Although I'll just stick to free OpenOffice, & the MS Office Starter bundled with this computer.

    • MS Office Starter isn't Office, it's a teaser for Office.

Good enough for me. I'm not inclined to buy a full version.

  • +1

There are plenty of ways to get the Academic and OEM versions, I can't imagine too many people would need the retail version.

  • I got mine for $15 through Microsoft Home User Program :)

trick for new players, if you are eligible for HUP, go to (your HUP link).co.nz instead of .com.au and buy via there for NZ$10 (approx A$8)

      • heh nice… I might do that for a second HUP purchase…

        • How can one be eligible to HUP?

        • +1

You need to work for a company that is eligible for the MS HUP program.

Failing that, if you still have your university email or TAFE email address, you are eligible for the Its Not Cheating promotion.

If you don't have a .edu.au address, perhaps get a friend / relative / your children to buy a copy for you.

how do u know who is eligible for MS HUP?

  • +3

haha wow if anyone paid that for a few word processing general programs i would be amazed..

Technet subscription is US$199 which gives u loads of office 2010 licences…

    • that's not much use to a business!

  • My daughter is going to Uni in March. Anyone can tell how to get MS office cheap. Or any trick if want to get it now? If want to put in few PC, which one is better? Thanks

    • +1

I think they're still $99 for all students on a site called "itsnotcheating.com.au". You just need to have a uni or tafe email address. That was the case last semester but I haven't checked this year. Might be worth a try.

    • Speak to her Uni. Most universities have special Microsoft deals for students. She may get a copy free, or at a huge discount.

However, you could try something like open office. It's free. If there isn't a specific requirement for Microsoft software from her Uni, it's just as good.

      • Many Unis and TAFEs are MSDN members and will give out free (or very cheap) copies of many Microsoft products for their students and staff - unfortunately this does NOT usually include "Office".

    • If you want it for multiple PCs your best option would be "Office Home and Student" - each copy will install on 3 PCs (buy another copy if you have more than 3 PCs).
      You can buy it online;
      http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/home-and-student/
but you may get a better deal buying a "physical" version from a retail store.

      If you want a more fully featured version try this;
      http://www.itsnotcheating.com.au/
      http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/itsnotcheating/de…

    • Office Professional Academic can be installed on 2 PCs (as per MS - "Product keys will be available for 2 installs for a desktop and mobile device").

    WOW $394?
    Thanks to torrent!

    • +3

Yeah I would have posted a link to the torrent but that would prob get myself banned.

Haha $400 for word processing software…tell em their dreaming.

The thing that really takes the cake is the $4 shipping…

    • Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, and Publisher are not used for word processing. It's like saying "who would pay $3,600 for a photo editor like Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection?"

Some people only need GIMP. Those people don't need Photoshop - GIMP does everything they need. But it doesn't mean Adobe is dreaming with their $3,600 design suite.

Some people only need OpenOffice. Those people don't need MS Office - OpenOffice does everything they need. But it doesn't mean Microsoft is dreaming with their $394 office suite.

      :)

      • Eug has totally missed the point.

The entire MS Office suite is available for much cheaper, though of course while not everyone is entitled to either the HUP or It's Not Cheating Promotion they can always get a friend or relative to purchase one for them.

        • +1

"Haha $400 for word processing software" - it's not just "word processing software".

Anyway getting a friend or relative to purchase one through HUP or itsnotcheating … is cheating. It might not matter much to home users, but to (honest) business users, it matters.

you can get this free if you know where to look..

    • +10

You can get anything for free if you know where to look and are willing to steal it :p

      • +1

Best thing is to get a paid genuine Operating system with good antivirus (either free or paid). Still few things left? get it from Torrent.

      • +3

Its not stealing, its illegally copying :)

  • This is a really good deal for small businesses.

The license for "Home & Business" and "Professional" Editions allows 2 installations for commercial use.
"Home & Student" Edition licenses allow for up to 3 PCs for non-commercial use.
"Academic" Versions are only for non-commercial use.

  • Good deal for me !! Thanks for finding and posting it, just ordered for my work notebook !

  • Hi, Can I ask $394 is it PKC ? Thank you.

    • Hi, it's Retail version, comes with DVD and licence
