      • hahahaa i guess it might just be cheaper to fly single at $1000 then. (Rep said)

    • +3

You're misunderstanding the sale. Because the kids are half price it makes the per person price average out to being 75% of full price. However the adults are still paying full price, only the kids are discounted.

      • edit: right…i didnt read the last bit that says pp(per person)

        hahahaa

(eg 1 Adult + 1 Child from Melbourne will still be $741pp).

  • +19

@Overlook, it's not always about you, mate. If the deal is not for you, then move on.

  • Those are some excellent prices, thanks for posting OP.

Anyone with a child to rent?

    • +16

I have 6 of them. Just let me know what age, whether boy or girl, and how long you need to rent them and I'll organise a quote for you :)

      • +5

I'll beat any written quote by 10% :):)

          • Coupon offers excluded.
    • +1

Hey there! Why don't you take a seat right here

    • +2

Jimmy Savile or the Podesta brothers maybe…

  • +1

What age is consindered a child?

  • +1

    Great Deal IWTF..
Will I get the deal if want to travel as single/couple without kids?

    • +1

      Hi,

Unfortunately, no. Without kids, the price jumps up to around $1k per person.

      • +2

Ohh ok thanks. What if I just add kids and do not get them to board while travelling… Will that be OK to get the benefits of this deal?
That will give 2 extra seats too to stretch during long flight.. 😊😜
Just trying to get the best bargain out of it πŸ€“

        • Will probably work but most likely a passenger flying on standby will take that seat if the flight is full.

        • @j0hnd0e: ohh ok..then will only tell them that kids are not flying when they make final boarding calls ..πŸ€“πŸ˜

        • @Being Askhole:

Nah, standby passengers gets to board after final boarding calls are made (from my experience on Virgin).

        • I'm doing this now :) But I haven't worked out how to get one ticket at the price of $750

      • +4

I think I misunderstood the deal

        You mean this?
        eg. 1 Adult + 1 kid = $741 + $741
        1 Adult = $1000

        • Correct. It's only worth it if you care about the kids going

        • How do you actually function in society?

  • +7

Family sale but blackout dates during school holidays :(

    • Isn't that typical? They're likely already heavily booked during school holidays. They're trying to encourage people to go when they're not heavily booked.

      • Trying to encourage kids not to go to school.

  • +1

I think I misunderstood the deal

    You mean this?
    eg. 1 Adult + 1 kid = $741 + $741
    1 Adult = $1000

    • +1

Yes. Kids/adults WERE the same price, ie $1,000. Now kids are half price, ie $500. Adults are still $1,000. So 1 adult and 1 kid is $1,000 plus $500 = $1,500. Close enough to 2 x $741. Hope that helps :)

  • +14

Thanks OP, now I know which flights to avoid.

    • +3

      14 hours of children

      • +1

Still easier than 18+ years of children.

  • Target price of $799 SMASHED, great deal, well done!

  • Hi
Long time viewer of the site but first post.

I am trying to book the opposite USA-MEL,and the fare is literally double any particular reason why?
My ideal route is IAD-MEL via LAX.

    • Are you booking one-way flights? If so they are usually more pricey than return flights. It's kind of ironic but I guess supply and demand model is working as intended.

      • no return, getting price $1800 upwards

        • no idea, I guess there's heap of americans wanting to fly over here. Maybe Summer break for them, peak time while we are in low season.

  • Those Perth fares though +++

  • Wasn't child price usually 75% of the adult base fare ?

  • Increase your savings with https://www.cashrewards.com.au/byojet#coupons
Or book with BYOJET and use the CODE: MERRIER40 to TAKE $40* OFF PER PERSON ON ALL INTERNATIONAL RETURN BOOKINGS

  • -2

Very misleading pricing in the title.

    • -3

      What were you expecting?
      The Spanish Inquisition?

  • On most airlines the pricing schedule is as follows:

12 years and up: 100% of the fare
2-11 yeras: 80% of the fare (this may be up to 15 on a couple of airlines)
    0 - 1yr 11months : 10% of the fare

Children/babies must still be within the age bracket on the return flight.

So if you find any fare for adult that is cheap - then the kids will as mentioned (in the same fare/booking class).

But still a $1000 on Qantas west coast USA for an adult is a good price, and the deal posted is cheaper than the norm.

    • Hello,

I thought under 2 years of age = free.

      Any experience with this one?

      • +1

Domestic yes, you will pay a small fee on international, usually in tax and some airlines charge 10%. I have been out of the travel game for a bit. The airlines have children and babes rates on their websites if you are looking at flying on a specific airline. I can ask my good friend, who one of the high ups in the Flight Centre food chain.

        • Many Thanks.

          That would be appreciated.

  • 747 out of Brisbane's swansong.

I’m a Child At Heart. Do I qualify?
    Pls no childish comments.

  • Very very tempting. Is it easy to go around LA with public transport. Was going to Japan but this is really tempting. ☺

    • Public transport in LA is pretty much non existent. You will want a hire car.

      • Ahhh thanks mate, as i have guessed :P Thanks

      • My years of GTA training has taught me public transport in LA is fantastic if you’re packing heat.

      • I had no problems with LA public transport last time I was there.

        • Me neither.

But you need to be aware that the poor are highly represented on public transport in LA.

          Like I said I didn’t have a problem either.

(LA isn’t one of my favourite cities; but I’m sure like everywhere there are nice areas).

        • @Eeples:

For security reasons I don’t look rich when I tavel, so I should be able to blend in.

    • If you want to waste a lot of time then sure, use the LA public transport. I did one trip and I made sure I know how to drive on the 'wrong side' now to avoid doing the same in the future. (note: driving on wrong side isn't as hard as you think it is)

  • Should add to the description that you can have multiple children per adult and they are still half price

  • QF still flying those old 747s to the USA. Even United has upgraded to the new 787 Dreamliners.

I swear 10 years back they were saying they were getting rid of the old ones.

  • Any tips on a one-way fare? They prices seem astronomical.
