  • does anyone use the 8bitdo SF30 for switch gaming? is it comfortable holding for long periods of time like these?

    • Use my sf30 pro a lot, almost definitely not as comfortable for long periods (compared to say a DS4, as I don't have a switch pro controller to compare) since it doesn't have the handles, but much more compact, and looks to retro biz.

    • I would have if the one I got from Zapals actually worked. It wouldn't power on. Luckily I got my money back from them and my return postage from PayPal.

  • Just a heads up – purchased from them a couple of weeks ago (during the $10 discount) and my controller has the issue with the d-pad input not being registered correctly :(

Great price for the controller though.

    • return it .. or check online to see if theres a way to re calibrate the controller.

      • +4

It's not a calibration thing, it's a known problem with the internal design of the pad.

Very disappointing considering Nintendo normally have great dpads

        • There was a tape fix covering up a portion of the pads inside to stop the accidental registering. Haven't needed to do it for mine which was bought day 1. It may be there and I just don't use it enough. But Ive finished Zelda and odyssey with it and it hasn't caught my attention.

        • +1

Was thinking this is a good price but considering this dpad issue I'll pass.

        • @TLZ:

i have 2 pro controllers and no problems…

        • +1

Although I hear the xenoblade version has a bigger ball. I suppose that fixed it?

I'm waiting until a new themed version comes out, because I assume itll have the same ball as the xeno's.

        • Still can return it to Amazon or Nintendo.

  • +1

    Should be $59.99

    • Corrected, thanks.

  • Thanks OP, I wanted this for a while. Thought about buying it at full price after missing out on the Catch deal. It can help with long sessions of Zelda and Bayonetta. Plus the battery life on this is fantastic

  • Managed to get myself one of these using the code despite not being a new customer!
I've been waiting on getting one of these for a good price for about 6 months.

    • Worked for me too :)

      Thanks OP

    • Me too, on both counts!

  • +1

    That’s a good price aren’t these worth $99

    • +1

They turn up for $80 regularly, this is a great price.

      • They turn up for $70 regularly, this is an amazing price.

Code not working for me as current user

    • Code only works for new users.

    • Make a new amazon account with your second email. It took me like 1 minute with autofill

  • Working for some not for others ???

  • I had to create a new account to order.

  • Cheapest I've seen. Upvote for you.

  • That's a great price if you are in the market for a Switch Controller .

  • The controllers that come with the switch can be used on android devices as well. Does anyone know if this controller can?

  • Got one thanks OP

  • Anyone know if these units will have the updated D-pad?

    • It works with android phones but with PC it works with some games and not all due to its API which is not up to date. There are workarounds however.

  • Code works for me - but shipping was added (no one mentioned this before is there a way to get free shipping?)

  • +2

A guy at work got jb-hifi to price match it at lunch

  • Thanks, been wanting one for ages!!!

  • kinda need this for BotW. good for mario, too. cant wait for smash!

  • Pro controller or more Joycons for another $15?

    • Pro controller all the way

  • One of the most comfortable controllers I've used since the Gamecube days. Got the Splatoon Version of the controller and it's been my go-to controller ever since.

  • I think 'new' user must mean 'new to Amazon Aus'. I've been an Amazon US customer for years, but never purchased from the Aus site, and it's accepting the promo code for me, no problem.

    • I just setup an account on my work address, glad you can use the same card across different accounts unlike paypal.

  • Now I know this one have or had dpad issue. My question is IS IT STILL WORTH GETTING? even with that issue let's say.

    • Absolutely. Great controller and I imagine it’s the vast majority with issues. If you have issues talk to Amazon or Nintendo. Otherwise it’s great, especially at this price.

    • The dpad issue is exaggerated. I can understand that it could be an issue with 2d platformers and fighting games, but I've never noticed any issues with inputs in zelda, shovel knight, rayman legends etc. Would prefer the dpad to be less mushy though, but the "pro"s outweigh the"cons" with this controller (pun intended)

      • Thanks for your suggestions.

      • +2

It's actually impossible to play tetris on my two pro controllers.

        Far from exaggerated.

        • +2

Yep. I sent mine in to get it fixed and they didn't do anything. Just a horrible dpad design

      • +2

It’s not exaggerated, it just affects different people differently.

It definitely is 100% absolutely without any doubt whatsoever an issue for a lot of people. No question about it. It just may not be an issue for you, the games you play, and the way you play them.

        • So is it a design flaw that affects all controllers or a manufacturing fault?

        • +2

          @phil1311:

It’s a design flaw. I believe the d-pad doesn’t have enough of a ball/pivot in the centre, so when you press in any direction the contacts for the two neighbouring directions can also be touched, leading to incorrect inputs. This doesn’t matter for a lot of games, because an errant input is not a big deal - but for some (like Tetris, where “up” is immediate drop!) it is a major issue.

One “fix” is to open the controller up, and tape the contacts so that there is a larger deadzone - this means an input has to be more deliberate in order to be registered. Apparently this “tape fix” makes the dpad better, but it’s still not 100% accurate.

Apparently on some of the newer ones (eg Xenoblade pro controller) Nintendo extended the length of the post. But there are still mixed reports of whether this made any difference or not. AFAIK, it’s still an issue, and a design flaw Nintendo refuses to acknowledge.

I use my pro controller for everything except d-pad orientated games (eg. Puyo Puyo Tetris, 2D platformers, fighters, etc).

        • @caprimulgus:

So you'd avoid the pro controller for the new street fighter game?

        • @Lunchguy:
I wouldn’t recommend it. I’d suggest a stick, or a controller with a decent dpad.

Otherwise, if you’re happy to open it up and void warranty, you could try the tape mod.

        • It's exaggerated by the people it affects, like those who play tetris etc. They're vocal and make their opinions known far more forcefully than those who don't have these issues and that exaggerates how much of an issue this dpad is.
The dpad is one element of the controller (albeit an important element), but its problems honestly wouldn't deter a majority of potential buyers of the controller, like myself, from enjoying the many benefits of what it brings to the switch experience.

So, yes, I do find this gripe with pro controller, although fair, heavily exaggerated.

  • Torn between getting this or just another 2 joycons (but then I'd need the charging holder)

  • For the people making a second account, how much of the information (address, phone, credit card, etc) has to be different from your main account?
I have just made a new account with a second email, but it won't let me use the promotional code.

    • i use my partner's name, mobile. that's all . same address, same credit card. i can use the code.

      • Cheers. Ended up changing everything to be safe.

anyone recently brought the pro controller from amazon, could you pls share your model number i think maybe above the barcode. as i read from the internet, in US, they have 104889A, 104889B and 104889C. B version is slightly better than A, and C is much better, most people on C have no issue. not sure if we have the same code, buy i think last letter maybe useful. thanks

    • +1

Placed order, and will report the model number and if it is a better version when I receive it.

      • +1

Ok, so just receive the pro controller. According to the test, it does register wrong input on the dpad. BUT at a very very low chance at least for me. I tested under my normal way to press those buttons. UP, LEFT 99.99% CORRECT. RIGHT, DOWN 97-99% CORRECT. of course if I try very hard to press the left side of Down , it does get like 30% chance confused and jumping between down and left. That is the worst I get from mine. Right side of Down almost doesn't affect. It is not perfect, but I think at least i do not need to get replacement or refund which I am happy with it. Plus I do not play a lot 2d games.

About model version, looks like our stock does not have a special model number printed there. Or maybe hiding too deep. I think I can not report any. I believe if anyone buy from Amazon recently, those stock should be the improved version compare to a lot old YouTube videos. Good luck guys.

        • i tested puyo puyo tetris demo, according to my experience, i have no problem at all. 100% what i want it to be. maybe i am too gentle. lol

  • It's coming up at $67.99 with free standard delivery for me

    • It's coming up at $67.99 with free standard delivery for me

I wish I'd said 'yes' to the JB guy who came down to $70 now.
