Microplane Elite Graters (Coarse, Extra Coarse, and Fine) (Old Models) - $12 Each (Pickup) @ The Good Guys

270

Whilst looking for a good deal on the standard Microplane zester I saw on Price Hipster that The Good Guys are clearing out their old Microplane Elite stock.

Pickup was available at a few stores I tested. It also looks like you can buy online if paying for shipping is your thing.

These usually go for close to ~$30. What a grate deal.

New model replacing the old. Is cheese grater technology developing so quickly, or are the changes purely cosmetic?

You obviously don't keep up with the technological advances in the grating and zesting industry.

usually cosmetic, i have an older model and it’s all stainless so that it goes into the dishwasher. although the plastic ones are also dishwasher safe, the plastic does go brittle eventually. would be interesting to know what the new model is,like.
the break through with microplane was rather than just pressing a cutting. edge through a sheet of metal, they acid
etched the edges to make them sharper.

several brands now do etched edge graters , eg even at kmart, woolies, though microplane were the original.

    • The new model is probably a blue tooth IOT device now. Lets you analyse your grating stroke in real time on your phone and improvements over time.

of all the cheese graters I've tried then these are the gratest.

    • I hope you don't rind but I'm going to use that joke.

Thanks this is perfect as the plastic bit of mine just broke yesterday! Probaby a good 8 years.

    • +2

they are programmed to disintegrate after 8 years

      • yep, i got all stainless ones many years ago, the plastic ones do go brittle especially if put in dishwasher., but stainless were $30 each and that was about 12 years ago.

  • Grate deal

  • These are grate. Would get more if it was delivered.

  • These work very well but the plastic is a little flimsy and flexes when in use. If I buy more it will be the ones with the metal frames.

Also, I would describe the "coarse" version as "fine".

    • they have microplane professional range which is all stainless ….. no plastic including handle.

      • aka gourmet range, about $30

      • Yep, thanks although they are the "ones" I was referring to.

    Zest we forget

  • Doesn't seem to be available in SA metro.

These look like the home series grater, not the elite.

    • Yes, these are Home series (not Elite).
I still think the price is good if you can find any stock…
