  • +2

Which store is this? And how many are left?

  • -1

    Was discussed here.

    • +1

      That's a different model.

  • +1

Hi there, this was salamander bay nsw and there were two left :) sorry for the format error - I’m new

    • Do we have digital radio here in the Hunter? Last time I tried it didn't exist.

  • +2

Serious question: Does anyone actually listen to DAB+ regularly?

    • +14

Yes, I love it. Usually I tune to Double J but I like SBS Chill and some of the other stations too.

      • you can get those on ya telly now

        • +14

          not in my car.

      • +13

        SBS Chill

        I had no idea.

Tuned in, first song by Lemon Jelly.

Thank you, this is a keeper. Am gonna look for this radio just for this station.

        • +12

20 min in and it just keeps getting better!

        • +5

@thevofa: Gotta say, I have a Sony DAB Clock Radio and I have the alarm set to wake me via the SBS Chillout station on a nice medium-low volume. It's a really nice way to wake up in the morning.

      • +4

sbs chill during morning shower, good stuff.

used to listen to buddha radio but then more and more ads creeped in. no thanks.

        • +1

exactly my routine too…if im in the shower/shaving/brushing teeth its sbs chill :D

        • Buddha radio was my go to until they saturated it with ads.. don't listen anymore.

    • +3

Yes, Double J and Triple J Unearthed in the car. (As well as regular Triple J, sounds a lot better than FM)

      • Technically it's still FM, just in Digital rather than analog & a little higher in frequency… :)

        • +3

DAB uses QPSK modulation - phase not frequency.

    • +5

Smooth FM for me :-) (On DAB+ not FM radio :-) )

      • +17

Smooth 95.3…. Smoooooooooooooooooooooootthhh ninety faaiiiveee poooiinntttt threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

        • +1

          Moooooore music breakfast shooooow.

        • +1

          It's Smooth 91.5 in Melb :)

        • +1

          @megabytez:

I was singing the above in my head going it isnt 95.3… but yeah 91.5

      • I've never understood how a DAB station can be called Smooth FM. I guess 'Smooth DAB' isn't as catchy.

    • +2

      Yes!
The audio quality is great and there are sooooo many channels.

I used to listen to ABC 702 which was AM-band only.
      On digital it was perfect.

    • +2

Yes I leave it running so burglars may think there's someone at home and i go to sleep with RN or BBC (ABC News 24).

Got one of those Dick Smith branded Sangean's for $29 … allegedly they sell for $199 without the Dick branding.

      • Also grabbed the DS Sangean . Fantastic .

      • Are we talking DS bricks and mortar (i.e. R.I.P) or DS Kogan?

      • +2

I used to leave the radio on for the budgie … 🐥

    • +6

Sadly yes, our cat was an unwilling audience. He was psychotic, highly strung and hyper so we had a DAB+ running softly 24/7 in his room on (can you guess….?) SBS CHILL and I swear it did calm him down a bit.

      • +2

Your cat has its own room?

        • +25

i remember when cats used to leave home at 18 and go get a job. damn millennimeows

        • +2

          @antikythera:

          Now they're just pussies!

        • +5

I don't have a cat but when I asked my friend that exact question he said, "I'd rather him have a room than the whole house."

        • (embarrassed look) yeah..! Three bedroom house, childless couple with a cat that annoys us senseless so he got his own room.

      • +3

My budgie was a bit particular too; fir him no punk, heavy rock, Pink Floyd etc. I left the radio on for him as he craved company after being on his ownsome while we were at work all day.

    • +1

Yes abc kids listen But the listen through from midnight is worth running all night and a wake up call at &6am

    • +2

most definitely. kinderling kids radio is an absolute godsend for any parent of young children.

    • Yep, everyday. There’s some great digital stations broadcast by triple m, triple j, 4mbs, abc612, triple z…All different to what they play on regular radio. Love it!

  • +4

Damn! Grabbed a couple of these a few months ago @ $19 thinking that was cheap (one for work, one for home). They're nothing fancy - e.g. no equalizer settings / bass treble adjustment. I don't listen to any of the DAB+ extra stations - just enjoy the normal FM stations in crystal clear quality.

Runs off 5V power via a USB power adapter (power adapter with mini USB plug on it) - although I've got my work one plugged into a USB port on my computer.

Kmart @ Marion SA had shitloads of them at $19 a while back - at the "front" of the home entertainment desk area, and also on one of the back walls in the same area… don't know if they still have them though, and if they've dropped them to $9 too.

  • -3

    Kmart clearances should be nationwide,

'should be', but highly unlikely you'd find one…

This shouldn't be posted until it can be verified there are > 10

Take it up with the mods. And there doesn't need to be more than 10 for this to be posted.

  • Im looking for something like this that can auto play audio from a SDcard to used as a white noise player.
Any suggestions for something from anyone ?

I dont think this unit can use an sdcard.

    • I have this one, it's a little quirky but it does what you need.

      • thanks will check it out.

        • chews battery like anything, would not recommend if buying for the protability

    • Expensive than what zzymurgy suggested, but this one does too.

  • +1

What's the bet that if I actually make the effort to go to my nearest store all I will find is an empty shelf?

    • +1

      I'll take that bet.

    • +3

Just call ahead and check stock.

I called Burwood, they had no stock, and according to them the only store with stock (In Melbourne? in the eastern suburbs? I'm not sure) was Southland which was reporting 2. I'm not bothered going out there but if anyone wants to call Southland to check they are welcome to.

      • Damn, I was just there this morning. Picked up some air duster cans for $5 (they recently restocked)

        • Are you walking on sunshine now?

  • +1

low stock in joondalup wa and alice springs

  • +2

i can only listen to Triple J and SBS because feelings are more important than facts.

    • +2

TBH I don't listen to the radio for political views or social commentary. Been listening to Triple J for 22 years because I like the music and the diversity of music therein.

I understand some people's aversion to their views though.

Have an upvote because I don't believe having a different opinion is a negative thing.

    • Summed it up right there. How dare you swim against the BS tide :)

  • could i use this in overseas?

  • Is this top quality?

    • +5

Nope, it's $9. And when it was $49, it was an overpriced, bad quality product.

      • sure….but for $9-$19 its pretty damn decent.
at the original rrp of $49 id agree it doesnt present the best value

    • -1

Absolutely no way could this produce HiFi quality sound. It only being powered by a piddly 5 Volt USB power adapter. That's nowhere near enough to power two large speakers and the DAB+ electronic circuitry.

      • its a small kitchen counter/bathroom/bedroom/shed radio….i dont think anyone claims or expects this to be hifi quality!
from memory its 5w per channel so not large speakers but enough to fill a small bathroom for example with ample volume & neat little LED panel displaying info/time etc. no probs with the power supply thus far

    • +2

      he cute

      • Thanks, no one else got it. Or clicked the link.

    • +1

      Oh, Bill.

  • +1

Dab? Not Dab+ (plus) ? What's the diff anyway anyone?

  • Nothing left in Kmart Mirrabooka.

Been trying to search for a DAB radio that will turn back on after being turned off at the mains… My Phillips one is playing up.

All require at least one button to come back on again.

  • I dont listen to Australian radio. Would this have an alarm function?

    • +1

yes it has an alarm/snooze function & dedicated controls….but to be honest ive never used it! :P

      • Great. I might just pick one up

  • spotify

  • +2

Damn you K-Mart. I was checking the discounts on Radios every time I went into my local, and now, now you’ve got the nerve to clear them when I haven’t checked recently. I am displeased.

    • +2

Isn't that always the way :(

  • -2

probably has the power adapter missing… looks like no box or instructions either, hence the mark down

    • -1

Incorrect, the picture is merely the display model on the shelf. Boxed units were available with everything complete, three were available and I got one of them for the $9.

  • I suddenly need this in my life.

  • they been selling zillions in non DAB enabled areas. Bought the small one for $9 and still waiting for a signal…
