        • I'll be buying from revcom….not

  • +1

Why is the price of the Galaxy S8 still so insanely high?

    • Likewise the Note 8! $1428 at both SydneyTec and AllPhones.

    • +2

To make up for the ‘discount’ they pretend to give,

    • The Galaxy S8 has the same guts as the Galaxy S9 (same CPU, and some mild refresh on the clock speeds)

Because the S9 isn't considered by most people as a very big upgrade, so that's why the price of S8 still remain high as there is still a very desirable device.

  • :P raise …. The prices

  • +12

    Usual actions.

    • Post gets loads of upvotes.
    • Many prices get jacked before sale date.
    • People complain on OzBargain.
    • A few bargains can still be found and sometimes those are shared here.
    • Yep..

    • -3

      And people post usual actions..

      • Yes they do.

    • -3

      "Post gets loads of upvotes”

      To many ozsheep around

      • +1

Look here everyone, an independent thinker, no one has ever slapped 'sheep' into a comment to represent mass conformity before.

        • -3

I'll send you a box of tissues :)

I dreamed that Amaysim was adding the Huawei P20 PRO to its eBay store for the same price they are selling on the website, and that I could use the 20% OFF coupon… :)
Thats just a dream... My birthday is coming and its time to buy a new phone after two years… :D

    • The way how it's going in the US, Huawei no more… soon.

      • +1

Not sure if that will hit Australia, but I'm sure the P20 will be officially released here in May as expected.

      • Huawei no more you reckon?

They are above Apple in worldwide smartphone market share, second only to Samsung; and they did that without a strong US market.

Don't see how the US warning against them is going to effect that.

        • Amaysim repeated that very bad behaviour… Price increased before adding to eBay.

    • Might grab an Amaysim monthly credit.

  • What a shame they don't have sparesbox on the list - I could have bought brake rotors for my mum…

  • I cant stand Graysonline. All the good stuff is pick up only. Why promote when you have pick up or super expensive shipping. Its eating your own pen*s madness!

  • is Genesis Genesisaus ?

  • +1
  • Might be time for me to grab an NVMe finally

Catch just changed their Switch consoles to "Out of stock".

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Console-…

Yet somehow, magically, available on their website:

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/nintendo-switch-joy-con-con…

    • +3

Dang.. even with the out of stock price.. these guys just went nuts jacking..

    • +1

Yep I noticed this too yesterday, was looking forward to grabbing one. They certainly have it in stock on their own website. I just looked again now, looks like they pulled the listing all together.

  • +23

I posted a -'ve vote because I have major issues with price jacking retailers.

    • +2

Gave you a +ve for the -ve.

      • They're a pack of dodgy exple-ves

    • -8

If you don't like the price jacking, then don't buy from eBay. However there are still deals to be had with codes such as these, therefore this is a legimate deal and your neg is not valid.

    • +2

I am sure if someone collated theM we could take eBay to the ACCC

  • How long does this sale last normally?

    • Until it ends

    • This offer commences at 10.00 (AEST) on 1 May 2018 and ends at 23.59 (AEST) on 7 May 2018 (“Offer Period”).

    • Another sale will probably start before this one ends. You'll have enough time I'm sure

  • Here only for jack and Something about ACCC…

  • Ryda prices are a little bit higher than their webstore but overall 20% off makes some Panasonic (and probably other brands) lenses a bit cheaper than elsewhere.

  • +4

I posted a -'ve vote because I have major issues with price jacking retailers

  • +6

    Price jacking

    • Laptop I was looking at yesterday is $30 cheaper today at 20% off than it was yesterday at 10% sitewide.

So yeah, slightly cheaper, but not 10% cheaper.

  • Need a NUC. Search link does not work for me…

  • no book sellers in the promo this time round :(

  • REVCOM
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-U2715H-27-UltraSharp-LED-Mo…

have been keeping an eye on this one and has been $599 for the last month or so…. the night before sale up to $689.00

  • +2

I'm all for getting some good jacking, but not price jacking

  • jbl charge 3 pls

This is the bargain we've all been waiting for

  • iPhone 7 plus - $100-$200 above apple price! Grrrrrrrrrrr

    Sony KD65X9000E

    Videpro website $2,537
    Videpro eBay $2,996

Voted negative due to PRICE JACK!!!

    • Isn't that 2396 on sale then…? That's still cheaper?

We all know eBay prices > elsewhere… But eBay - 20% < Elsewhere sometimes.

      • It's not elsewhere it's the same company 'Videpro'.

        • +3

Price has been the same on their ebay store since Apr 5th. Price has only changed twice this year, being more expensive back in February.

Prices of their website is cheaper than their ebay store, it has always being the case. Even when there isnt any 20% sale.

          Invalid neg IMHO

        • @aldoduco:

Sony themselves have it selling direct for $2537, so saying 20% discount from an already inflated price of $2996 is false to myself, hence the neg seems valid

        • @Celts88:

It's not elsewhere it's the same company 'Videpro'.

        • @Celts88:

The RRP on Sony's website is $4299.00. Regardless of what Sony have been selling it for on special, your neg is invalid. Nowhere do eBay say that this promotion is 20% of the lowest price available. The price on eBay is $2396.80. Have you found cheaper then this to warrent a neg?

    $839.20 if no price jack.
    E480 with 8550U + RX 550.

Note sure if price error, these are usually $1k+ on sale…?

    • It's a refurb, but yeah, they are normally $1k. grays online is actually a surprisingly good place to find laptop deals.

Feel free to post that in the ebay low quantity forums
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/361464

      • Oh ofc! Knew I was missing something lol

  • not yet ready?

    • These sales start at 10am and the coupon often doesn't work straight away.

    • I was gonna say; 'Looks like this code isn't ready yet. Please try again later as we need more time to price jack'.

  • I never understood why sellers jack prices except being greedy. Because eBay is the one subsidies with this discount it's not like the seller losing revenue…..

I guess it's just like retailers liking to rip off Aussie and it's the culture even for online shops. They just want to rip you off whenever they can

If they can get away with it they will do.

This mindset is morally wrong eventhough ACCC can't do anything. Because a voucher code being offered is such a grey area as you don't have to use the code.

    • +2

These "selected store" coupon codes do come at a cost to the sellers involved because they act as a form of advertising. It's the sitewide x% off eBay deals that there shouldn't be any price jacking for, which is why there are so few of them nowadays (if any do come up, they're 10% off at best or capped at a low max. discount) and so many of these selected stores deals. As long as consumers continue to buy during the selected stores deals, eBay won't put out more sitewide deals. You can be on of the stoic ones that doesn't buy from these deals, but the reality is everyone else is buying. You'd be stupid not to take advantage of these deals, because yes, despite the rampant price jacking, there are sometimes some diamonds in the rough.

The ACCC does have the power to change things, but no one really cares enough to act. This is one of those things that you yell in the moment at but ultimately just ignore.

And suppose the ACCC slaps eBay/the stores on the wrist. What do you think happens then? eBay starts putting out 20% off codes with 0 price jacking? No, the deals will just cease to come out.

By the way, does anyone know if sometimes the codes work before 10, let's say 9:58am?

      • +1

By the way, does anyone know if sometimes the codes work before 10, let's say 9:58am?

No. sometimes start working at 10:02am tho

      • These "selected stores" agree to absorb the "10%" of the discount for the opportunity to be promoted as part of the eBay sale, which in itself is excellent publicity and will lead to extra sales. They should be passing on the discount they agreed to, rather than price jacking to cover their cost for this promotion. Basically these stores are trying get free promotion from eBay and don't want to meet their end of the agreement. That is why sellers remain quiet about their price jacking practice. No sellers can justify price jacking their goods for these promotions, because they are not victims of these promotions, but have chosen to participate knowing what they should do and shouldn't do.

  • I don't think there'e ever been so many negs in ozb history

  • +7

Search Link wont work? wont let me ''search'' as it just resets the stores

    • +2

      Having the same problem.

    • +2

Same here, could anyone kindly provide a new link?

    • Seems it's just ebay being silly, as clicking through the code link on the site does the same thing :(

  • Can't imagine Dell would Jack would they? Looking at an Inspiron Gaming Desktop that is $1599 on the Dell website but currently selling for $1399 on their eBay site. An extra 20% would take it down to about $1120.

  • Perpetually 20% off

  • +1

I still can't search (when i use the search link) without the seller filter disappearing? What's the trick to this. I'm on a windows desktop and have tried both chrome and edge.

  • +1

The search link seems to include a bunch of stores that aren't a part of the sale FYI.

  • bought a mattress. it seemed reasonable all said and done. The old one was on its wayyy out. Free shipping also helps.

  • +1

    Thanks nocure! :D

    Grabbed a Dell XPS 15.

That search link is busted. It's showing shops not participating.

    PC Byte jacked their prices.

  • so desperately need a new phone. mine keeps dying and resuscitated. looking at samsung s8.

i know $1050 for the S8+ isn't a deal, but with 20% off + TRS refund I can get in a month, it comes down to $765.

What do the professionals think? Think we'll see the S8 or S8+ lower than 850 in the next month?!

  • Amaysim is ridiculous:

    Today that's on eBay:

    Shameless

Got almost $1800 off a Macbook Pro, no price jacking complaint from me :)

    • Wow, i thought maximum discount of $1000 per transaction.

      • was already 1000$ cheaper than the RRP - although I would never spend $600 to get a 500GB bump in SSD..

        • Aaaaah RRP

    • which store did you get your macbook pro? thanks

    eBay scam…

BB Keyone $819 before discount, $648 after 20% "discount"
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blackberry-KEYone-Black-Edition-…

The usual price is $670, or $636 after 5% discount from other sellers.
