Blimey, looked at lunchtime and only 20%…..took them a while to launch the extra 30%

  • been waiting for this thanks OP

  • Was wondering what to do with the 75,000 free points from the recent promo. Thanks!

    • So does that mean it's 75k Velocity if transferred right now?

      • +2

75000 Anz would normally get you half ie. 37500 point's. With the 50% Bonus you would get 56250 Velocity points from your 75000.

Oh I thought it works the same way like flybuys. Would have been sweet if it was 1:1

  • I thought generally you end up with less when converting to another company's points. JB Hi-Fi gift cards, for example, cost 18,000 on Velocity rather than ANZ Rewards which is great in general but if I were to convert 20,000 from ANZ I'd only get 15,000 even with the bonus. How does everyone else use their points?

    • +1

15000 is about a return economy flight from syd to mel for example (especially good for last minute and peak season flights). better value can be found in international premium cabins of course

    • Where do we get this conversation? How can I buy JB cards through velocity points?

      • +2

Google Virgin Velocity —-> redeem points

          Thanks mate

$200 JB HIFI = 44,445 ANZ Reward Points
          $250 JB HIFI = 45,000 Velocity pts

I transferred this morning, I assume ill get the extra 30%.

    • Yep same. Fingers crossed. It does say from 1 May so should be right.

    • Yes you will

  • Is there a cool down between doing multiple transfers? Wondering if I should transfer now + at end of month or just once at end of month

    • +2

There is no cool down.. but I normally do once at end of the month.

  • Is this the best way to cash in ANZ reward points? I've just checked and have 127k worth.

    • -2

Absolutely! With that you're 3k shy of getting return business class with Singapore Airlines. I'm guessing 127k Anz Rewards equals 127k Velocity FF.

      • +1

2 ANZ points equals 1 velocity point. Plus the bonuses i guess

      • I don't think you'll get one for one. 127k ANZ rewards will get you about 95k Velocity, as you get 50% of the base velocity points instead of ANZ reward points.

EDIT: I see ANZ rewards gives you 0.5 velocity per point, where ANZ travel gievs you 0.75 velocity point

  • +1

brilliant, this means my effective earn rate on my ANZ Travel Rewards Visa is now to 1 Velocity point per $1 instead of 0.75 points per dollar (on the basis of 1.5 ANZ points per $1 earn rate)

EDIT - at least for the month of May!

    • for the first $2000 only, after that, it is 0.5 pts / $1 spend

  • I'm somewhat confused here - I can't see any condition around the "could" part, how would you not qualify? And also confused by this as it seems to have different numbers compared to the current Velocity promo.

    • I see, the 20% bonus and the tiered bonus are not commutative, they're one or the other. So the velocity bonus for ANZ is 20% and then ANZ stacks their 30% on top.

      • Also confused. Both paragraphs only require you to do a valid points transfer (ANZ to Velocity) within the specified dates … therefore you would not ever fail to get the additional 30% ??

Are they separating the 20% and 30% to highlight that one promo is run by Virgin, and the other run by ANZ?

        • They are sending are separating it out. Maybe just because the 20% is at the discretion Velocity, that being their promo?

        • @ely: yeah must be… I don't understand the "could" condition but anyway it's a good deal

  • I just realised I never received my 30% booster from the last promotion in November i think it was. I think i'll have to contact somebody about that. Anybody else had this issue before?

  • +1

I'm so confused. The velocity site gives us a different conversion rate on a sliding scale based on the number of velocity points you transfer. ANZ and Velocity need to sort out their messaging.

    https://go.velocityfrequentflyer.com/bonanza?cmpid=vf:edm:pr…

    • They're separated into two columns, the ones on the left are on the sliding scale, right is 20% fixed.

      • Where are you seeing these left and right columns?

        • Where the bank logos etc. are. ANZ is in the lot of logos on the right hand side.

I'll be watching me Velocity account with a keen eye to make sure I receive both the 20 and 30% bonuses :). Hopefully no need for a follow up phone call. Transferred points, first thing on May 1st :).

    • All arrived, safe and sound :)

I got a printed reward summary in post today from ANZ. It states the May bonus offer has been extended to 10th June 2018.
