    • I had the exact same experience with these sharks. They keep jacking the rates up repeatedly. It is simple bait and switch. Avoid at all costs.

By the time I ported they were charging me $200/qtr more than pretty much every plan available on the market.

  • +1

Had a conversation with Amaysim and despite these freebies and joining bonus they couldn't beat my existing electricity bill with 32% discount with Energy Australia NSW. It probably shows how high their rates are.

    • Correct.
The whole energy market is all smoke and mirrors.
They are all playing thier little deception games.

      • The whole energy market

Exactly right, Amaysim is no trail blazer here. 3/4 of people at least are paying too much just as the same rate of people are paying too much for insurance that is constantly hiked on loyal customers

      • Its odd how they arent matching discounts or waving a better carrot

    • What was the freebies and joining bonus?

      • They've had several promos - $100 Kmart gift card, $250 energy credit and so on.

  • +2

Just did the sums. AGL (QLD - savers plan) rates are lower and give 25% discount (off usage only) for on time payment. On average, Amaysim would cost me $35 a month more than the plan I'm on with AGL.
$35.00 a month for Internet is not bad - I pay $70 a month with ABB.

  • +3

I have been with Amaysim more than 6 months. Here is my review if it helps anyone.

Started with Basic Plan around 12 Mbps.

    • Got around 11.7 Mbps most of the time.
    • Peak time could be worse depending on which city, state route your NBN connection is made through.
      • Anytime I had really bad internet during peak hours, I would turn off the modem wait for 5 mins and reconnect to get a new ip address for a different city, state route - some worked fine and some were bad during peak hours

After promotional period - upgraded to Standard Plan around 25 Mbps

    • Same as above.

Changing plan is really troublesome without losing few days of money and having to wait till the end of the month, why?

    • Anytime you change plan, you forfeit the previous pad plan with no pro-rata credit for the remaining days.
      • Than means if you are charged for the plan just today and you want to upgrade it right away and want to pay the difference, you won't be able to. You will be charge full price for the new upgraded plan and will not get paid for the previous plan you paid
    • Changing plan takes 2 - 5 days and needs to be done before the next prepaid billing time,
      • If you apply 5 days ahead and they are able to process in two days - you billing will move 3 days ahead and so will your plan.
    • They will let you know right away in chat if you want to change the plan

They have already suspended Standard Plan (25 Mbps) and will mass upgrade all the existing clients to Standard Plus Plan on June 30, no idea why so late but that's the plane.

No idea if their Standard Plus Plan speed is any more than 25 Mbps.
    Why?
Because they will not answer, if you inquire about it.
The only way to find is to switch the plan and check the speed.
That's what I had to do when I upgraded the plan.

Today just saw this deal, checked my plan but my plan "Standard Plan" started on 2nd April, so I can't upgrade till the end of the month unless I want to pay again. And when I do upgrade, I will lose couple of days again like last time when it was on the 5th of the month.

  • With amaysim everything is smoke and mirrors. They have turned into shamsters.

Their prepaid mobile plans are not monthly at all but 28 days.
Whilst that doesnt sound like much difference it works out to exactly 13 payments a year instead of 12.

And with thier electricity plans the rates are boosted so far up so as to more than offset the 40% discount…
or in this case the cost of their sub-standard standard plus nbn plan (with no speed quoted)
As many have pointed out here you end up paying more with amaysim.

And as many have also said - you need to do your numbers - ALWAYS!!!!

    • Can't understand why would you shame amaysim if all numbers are there for your calculation?
With their numbers (for SA) it's 35c for kWh and 67 supply, which is pretty much very close to other providers, but solar feed in is 20c

Waiting for the switch to them from dodo with their $250 voucher connection offer.

      • +1

No, the Solar Feed in is not 20c. This is how Dodgy they are. They say you get a 20c FIT but any pay on time discounts is also apply to your FIT with them. This is mentioned in their price fact sheet "net of solar export".

Same with their subsidiary Click Energy. Dodgy.

  • So $70/month NBN = $2.34 a day

    For SA "electricity nbn" (9% discount) supply is 99.66.91=$0.907 1kWh=52.58.91=$0.4785 . If use 12 kWh/day = $4.309 per 90 days = $387

If we compare with current "electricity 3" (32% discount)

    12 kWh/day = 99.66.68 + 52.58.68*12 = 67.78 + 478.01 = 545c = $5.45 a day. 90 days = $490 + 3 * $70 = $700 per quoter

So in SA using 12 kwh/day and paying $70 for nbn, you would save $313 per quoter.. having solar will bump it up even further.

Good deal, bad I don't have nbn and already existing customer :-)

    • For SA pay on time discount is only 5% for the NBN plan vs 33% for the non NBN plan.

    • Your calculations are off. You cannot subtract the NBN cost from the power bill in scenario 1 and add it in scenario 2: that leads to double counting. The deal is to waive the $70/month NBN fee; your calculations suggest that Amaysim is waiving the fee and paying customers $70/month to use its service. So the cost in scenario 1 should be $598.

That puts the hypothetical customer about $100 ahead of scenario 2, not $300. Of course, $100 is still a decent difference, but the comparison is still an imperfect one.

First, you are still only comparing Amaysim's energy plans. What about other electricity retailers? Is Amaysim really the cheapest point of comparison to use in scenario 2? My fiddling about with energy comparison tools suggests it is far from the cheapest option, although of course individual circumstances vary.

Secondly, you are still only considering Amaysim's NBN offer in isolation. How does its service compare to other RSPs? For example, comparing Amaysim with Aussie Broadband would probably be like comparing Red Delicious apples to Pink Lady apples. They are both apples but is the former really on par with the latter?

There seems to be a lot of incorrect maths in this thread. Is the power more expensive than the best electricity deals out there? Yes.

However even if considering a cheap 50/20mbps connection at $60 a month, your total extra electricity charges must exceed $720 a year for you to be worse off.

    • Did my own maths yesterday. I have a 5kw solar system so my overall usage would be low. Even with the lower 20c solar FIT (I'm currently getting 22c) and the lower pay on time discount, I will be forking out <$200 more (12 months) but I will be getting 12 months free NBN. Sounds like a deal to me. Obviously, people need to do their own maths as everyone situation would be different.

    I got Amaysim NBN.
Offpeak Speed Saturday at 8am http://www.speedtest.net/result/7283254418

A few negative to consider prior to joining:
    - They use AAPT and any fault will be routed through ticket system of AAPT - no real time result.
    - Technical Support not 24x7
    - Can't claim internet expense in your tax return as you are not paying.
    - Discount may be higher for low usage of electricity/gas.

A few positive to consider prior to joining:
    - $60 discount
    - Discount may be higher for low usage of electricity/gas.

    • +1

What speed plan are you on with Amaysim?

    • How to get the $60 discount?

  • -2

suckers. nothing in life is free. especially from private corporations. but sign away.

  • Not sure about this deal. However, amaysim apply 40% discount (electricity) on Total bill, which including usage, supply and GST, but some company only apply discount on usage charges. I went to amaysim with "Beats Powerbeats3 wireless head phones" deals,And save $40/quarter plus $150 head phone resale.

    • +1

This is not the first comment to make reference to a 40 per cent discount. It should be made clear that, in the context of this offer, the claim is wrong.

A person who takes up this deal will not get a 40 per cent pay-on-time discount or anything close to that. The pay-on-time discount for Amaysim's "electricity/gas NBN" plans is as little as 5 per cent. This reduced discount is one of the costs of getting "free" NBN.

It should be added that the concept of a "pay-on-time discount" in energy retail really is misleading, considering that the tariffs are higher to begin with. The difference can just as easily be thought of as a penalty for overdue payment, rather than as a discount for timely payment.

      • Overall compared to my AGL plan, it was already going to be 200 more a quarter. Its not a great deal at all unless you dont use much electricity and have gas/battery/panels etc

        • Did you try comparing your plan on Wattever.com.au or your state govt site? AGL is usually not the cheapest provider unless you live in the ACT.

    • I have done calculations and connected the gas only on their gas nbn plan to get a free nbn for 12 months.
Upon connection they offered me 40% discount on electricity bill if i move electricity to them as well which I have done.
It will save me about $30 on electricity bill, but i will pay more about 10-15 dollars for the gas per quarter compare to my current energyaustralia rates. So by doing that I will be $15 ahead on the bills plus a free nbn for year :)
Nbn has been connected within a day which is a super fast. Speed is quite good surprisingly:
      Download 47 Mbps
      Upload 18.6 Mbps
      Ping 10ms

      • When did you sign up and when was your nbn connected?

        • Signed up for gas on Tuesday, got called to sign up for NBN on Wednesday. The NBN was provisioned on Thursday.

  • Again WA not included in the offer..

    • WA won't be included until your electricity retail market is deregulated.

This is up to your state government so you need to lobby them

  • I just switched my electricity to Red Energy through referral and QFF special. Transfer has not been completed yet. What would be the process should I decide to go with this deal instead? Do I have to notify Red Energy to stop (cooling off period) or could I just sign up with Amaysim and they do the rest? I'm not in a rush, but Amaysim offer needs to be taken up by 20th May

    • +1

Just take this deal up on the 15th May and you should be fine. No need to contact Red.

  • Does anybody know if you can forward date this deal? Eg. Set my NBN to change over in a month or so?

  • +1

Has anybody noticed if these guys do a credit check at all when you move your power and internet to them? I hate how some providers add a pointless entry on your credit file for changing!

  • +2

I had a chat with their online support and a few things:

    1. They can't future date NBN connections
    2. They do a credit check when you sign up, not an issue for me but I'm not a fan of companies putting these stupid enquiries on my credit file for unnecessary reasons.
    3. They won't give any extra freebies or sign u bonuses for coming over to them on this NBN/Energy deal.
    4. As stated, the speed is 50/20, but they only state around 30mbps durning peak times.
    • Thanks mate

  • I wish there was a law requiring unbundled and itemized pricing.

  • Don't do it, this is the worst decision i've ever made

    • +1

      The customer service is atrocious
