    BEWARE

Their store credit usually expires a couple of weeks after it's issued…

    • +3

Store Credit will be valid until 16/09/18.

      • -1

        Hopefully…

That's not been my experience in the past though…

Note that you're not going to get your credit until late July

        • how do you know?

        • +2

@pinkybrain: The T&Cs linked in the OP above state that credits will be issued no later than 16 July.

    • +8

      Either way store credits suck

      • Not if you are planning to buy a toaster

        • You will have to spend at least 50 to get that 20 back

  • +13

Anyone can lend me your $20 Store Credit? I will return it after I made the purchase :P

    • +29

You can borrow my $20 store credit if you pay a non-refundable $20 deposit.

  • Any suggestions of a good (and cheap :-) ZigBee bridge to work with Google Assistant?

    • Use homeassistant

      • Thank you but how does that help with Zigbee?

    • Samsung SmartThings is an option for Zigbee, but needs to be imported from overseas. It's not as cheap as other Zigbee hubs like Xiaomi, but where Xiaomi and other hubs are generally manufacturer-specific, SmartThings is compatible with heaps of manufacturers, especially since they have an open API where others on the net have added support for manufacturers that don't officially support it (eg Xiaomi sensors). People often get the Xiaomi Zigbee sensors for it which are super cheap and miniature compared to sensors by Samsung and other brands.

What do you plan to use Zigbee for? That will probably begin to narrow down which Zigbee hubs are most suitable for your needs.

  • +11

These are getting so cheap, soon Google will be paying you to take one. Which they should, since you're willingly bugging your house

    • +20

That’s fine - you can keep wearing your tin foil hat, while I’ll be able to set a timer with my voice. Yay!

    • +2
      • Ahahaha, I love that movie!

    • +13

Constant surveillance is a small price to pay for fart noises on demand.

      • +1

Wait for the random laughing like alexa

    • Yes I have wondered about that myself. Google is following me everywhere I go with my phone, and is asking for feedback on the stores I visit. That Doctor Who episode where people were “taken” while they watched television comes to mind. Some people thought televisions were spying on them when they first became available …

      • +1

Yeah its pretty creepy. Even if you disable location tracking, it's still asking me to rate the woolworths or other shops I spent time in. htf do they know which shop i was in?! and how long for? If i dont stay long in a particular shop, i dont get asked to survey or upload my photos of the location.

        • If the shops have WiFi they might be able to identify where you are from the WiFi ID?

        • Perhaps we should turn our mobiles off when going out.
Have come to depend on Google Maps app for navigation, so don’t deny Google’s usefulness, but yes, creepy it is.

        • @Cap N:

If the shops have WiFi they might be able to identify where you are from the WiFi ID?

Nope. Mobile data. I have a crapload so I don't do wireless at all

        • @JediJan:

          Google Maps

          I don't use it.

I reckon Google is doing what Facebook is doing. Difference is that Google hasn't been busted yet….. Yet

        • +1

          @D6C1: exactly!!!!!

        • +1

          @D6C1:

You don't have to actually connect to WIFI networks for them to be used for location awareness FYI. Wifi networks are like a beacon that broadcasts the information when you're in range, the phone can passively collect that data and use it to work out location. I don't really use Android personally, so I have no idea if that's how it's finding your location in this particular case.

        • Did you swipe Woolworths reward card for your purchase? do you have your gmail ID linked to rewards card? So many things and you can’t escape these days lol

  • +1

To be eligible to receive the bonus, eligible products must be purchased at full ticket price.

    • $53 is the full ticket price currently, they don't mean RRP

      • Cheaper for cash ? Isn't that their motto

    • +1

I wonder if the ebay 5% discount affects this?

      • +1

I don't think so. From past experience TGG won't see the real sale price i paid on ebay. Discount is absorbed by ebay and not the seller.

        • This is what I found in T&Cs

          2) To be eligible to receive a Store Credit claimants must purchase eligible products from participating The Good Guys stores, online or from The Good Guys eBay store during the Promotion Period.

      • This is what’s in the T$C

        2) To be eligible to receive a Store Credit claimants must purchase eligible products from participating The Good Guys stores, online or from The Good Guys eBay store during the Promotion Period.

  • +1

Do I have to purchase two separately to claim two? Or can they be in the same receipt?

  • Good find; thank you for sharing. Still trying to evaluate why I really need one.

Have been thinking of buying a Nespresso coffee machine … but I usually look for sale prices, and I am usually the only one that drinks coffee here. Decisions … decisions!

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/nespresso-breville-essenza-mi…

    • +2

Coffee is over rated. Drink Vodka - you will sleep much better.

      • I do love my coffee and wouldn’t want to swap one form of addiction to another. I rarely drink any alcohol. Vodka is pretty yucky stuff too.

        • Coffee and vodka are great together! They are both key to an expressotini.

    • Don't, too much pollution and the cost per cup too high.

    • Still trying to evaluate why I really need one.

I've been contemplating similarly, for the last several deals on these. I still cannot really justify why I need or even want one of these. But with this deal, I'm thing I might as well just buy it and see if I can find a use (and/or get buyers remorse) later.
Thinking ahead, although there is probably nothing that I want for $20 store credit, as long as the store credit vouchers can be stacked, I'm guessing a heap of ozbargain users will put their $20 store credit up for sale for $15. Buy a few of those and put them together, could get something $100 for $75 …

    • Consider getting a grinder and aero press/handdrip/French press instead. Much nicer coffee imo

  • +3

Ugh, waiting on the 2 for $79 to come back :(

  • Beware, the $20 store credit isn't treated like cash. I went into a store for a valid price match on an item the other day, the store manager willingly agreed to the price match. I told him I would be part-paying with $20 store credit from a previous promotion and then he reneged on the price match. Dodgy.

    • +5

Wow, that's 100% the store managers fault, you should complain to head office. I can't even see why that would be an issue, you're following all of their rules.

I've been able use price match + store credit + gift cards in one transaction multiple times with ease.

      • +2

        I might do that.

The weather was great that day, but the store manager and his customer service skills were terrible.

  • Just bought one.i can't find any order number to make a claim? Does tax invoice comes a day later or something?

  • +1

The fact that these things are getting cheaper and cheaper worries me. I own one but can't help but think this will be the next Cambridge analytics scandal to break. Feels as though they may as well pay us to be part of the Google surveillance programme. That said, it's a pretty useful device.

  • How do you guys actually use this in a practical manner? Forgetting the novelty factor.

    • +1

Turn on/off all my lighting, turn on/off my TV, change channels on my TV, open my garage door. I have integrated it with ifttt and home assistant, it's awesome.

      • +4

Ghee, google can really f—k with you, when it gets hacked, or bought by China or Russia.
You'll be watching your favourite show, and just at the crucial moment … google change the channel.
Then you get up to look for TV remote… google switches lights off so you can't see the remote.
Then you're like f—k this, Im outa here, my smart home is turning against me :/ , fumble around in dark for car keys, while google randomly flicks through tv channels to annoy the crap out of you, finally you've found your car keys…. head to the car and start car up …. then google baits you, opening car door, then as soon you drive towards door, it closes again :/
So you then ask Alexa for help :)

        • +1

ROFL you forgot to mention the bit where it locks you in and sends a screenshot of you from the webcams to afp.gov.au haha

        • So you then ask Alexa for help..

And then Alexa goes Let me Google that for you..

      • What wrong with the remote?

    • lights, weather, alarm, reminders, time, music.

    • +3

Personally, I find mine pretty pathetic. We get a lot of "I'm sorry, I can't help with that" responses. Can't even link it to an Android TV which is pretty ironic.

We use it for timers and the weather. Wow. We are the Jetsons

      • We got that a lot at the start too. Been about 4 months now and it seems to have gotten better, we use it a lot.

Mainly for controlling TV as we have an open plan space and not always near the remote. While cooking dinner we can just ask it to change the station, play something on Netflix or next video on YouTube or just turn it off, saves washing meat covered hands before using the remote. Also use it for grocery shopping list management. Easier than writing it down, can do it on the fly.

Also listen to music a lot on it, set alarms and add events to my calendar. Generally don't ask it random questions like what is the 3rd planet from the sun. :p

Also use for bedroom light management. Use the yeelight so I can have it bright white while getting ready. Jump into bed, then tell it to turn to a warm dim light colour, so I'll read a book and get tired. Then finally ask it to turn the light off to save getting out of bed.

  • First of all Who need this stalking device ?

    • +1

Exhibitionists who want their love making heard by foreign government agencies ?
Im off to buy 2 right now, 1 for the bedroom, 1 for the loungeroom ;)

      • Is that all?

  • +1

Been burnt by Erina Good Guys before with cashbacks - sales assistant recommended Lavazza pod machine as it had $20 cashback, had sign in front of machines on shelf saying same - didn't even think of reading the small print to verify the sales assistant was correct, only to later get the cashback rejected as the purchase was made too early. Zero response to email asking them what the point was of putting a sign up weeks before the promotion started. Dodgy. Beware of this mob.

  • +1

As others have mentioned be mindful of Good Guys store credit. I walked into a store, needed a shop vac, which didn't have a price on or near it. I asked a consultant "how much is this?" - they came back and said $97. I grabbed it and walked to the counter - only to be told there was no way they were selling me that item for $97 if I was using a store credit. Of course I protested that I didn't even attempt to haggle I simply asked what the price was , they simply said "pay $110 or leave the store" = fun times ;-(

    • Less for cash policy? Still that's bit sux. Once I ask, how much cheaper for cash, sales person said can't reduce any more. So it's all for their benefit.

    • I thought store credit is supposed to be considered ' just as good as cash ' …that seems like dodgy practice.

  • I don't understand why anyone would want this

  • Be careful, applying ebay discount might make you ineligible to claim $20 voucher!
I will call good guys customer care on Monday, see if that's okay/not

  • +1

There's not a 24/12m Google Drive offer storage with these boxes anymore, nay(?).

  • Went in store today and purchased a Google Home Mini, went to claim it online same day and…

"Unfortunately you do not qualify for this Bonus Offer. If you would like to query this, please email your contact details, including name and phone number, docket number and date of purchase to [email protected]. Alternatively, you can contact us directly on 1300 Good Guys (1300 466 348). Please refer to our website for terms and conditions."

    • I had the same issue with the purchase I made this morning.
I will try again tomorrow in case something needs to be done on their end before the claim can be made (which may not occur on Sunday's), but would be disappointed if I really don't qualify for it.

      • Following up from this, I just received the following email from The Good Guys

We can advise the correct promotion which applies to your purchase is our $20 Store Credit Mother's Day - Google Home & Mini, Fitbit Charge 2 & Alta HR.
We advise that our claim forms for this promotion will open after 3pm today so please feel free to follow the below link to claim.

I have confirmed that this promotion is now showing on the Bonus Offers page and my claim is now being processed.

    • That's false advertising then, go back and tell them, I'm sure they'll help out, well hopefully.

If not, that's going to be a big issue for them.

    • Got the same error as well and I also bought instore today. I've sent an email to customer care.

  • Does anyone know if only one credit per household or multiple credits be claimed (if they come through..)?
Thinking of buying a few for gifts overseas.
    (TRS + Credit = win…)

  • +2

Update for those that claim is not working - call them up they will process it manually over the phone and you should receive the cash back offer in 7 days

    • Hey - Do you know if multiple units be bought and claimed by one household?

    • Tried doing this and they said no! What magic did you do?

    • +1

Turns out the issue is that it is actually the Mother's Day promotion that this is eligible for. I put my docket in using that claim form and it worked.

    • +1

JMC is right, under the $100 bonus store credit is the correct $20 Mother's Day offer if you bought the Google Mini.

  • Once you claim do you get the store credit quickly via email or is it mailed? Also can you use the store credit on the ebay store?

    Thanks

    • -1

can you use the store credit on the ebay store?

I’m really surprised, you’ve been using Ozbargain from last 5 years & still not sure about these kind of simple facts.

can you use the store credit on the ebay store?

TGG & eBay are separate businesses/companies.

It’s like asking can you use TGG store credit @ HN

And just in case, you are unaware —

TGG stands for The Good Guys
      HN stands for Harvey Norman

      • -1

I know TGG & eBay are separate, I was asking if the store credit can be used on the TGG eBay store (hence why I said (on the ebay store and not on ebay). As in do you get a code or something that you can use on the ebay TGG store checkout, or even the TGG website - or do you have to use store credit directly in store.

So you do have any actual answers?

        • -1

As in do you get a code or something that you can use on the ebay TGG store checkout, or even the TGG website

          Wrong,

          • eBay discounts are backed by eBay itself, regardless which eBay store, the promotional code is for. Those eBay codes only works @ eBay.

To answer your question You can not use TGG store credit @ eBay/
          / TGG eBay store

  • Well decided to try it online after rep did it manually and still didn’t receive a code or email and got this

Thank you for registering your claim for the following promotion:

    $20 Store Credit Mother's Day-Google Home & Mini, Fitbit Charge 2 & Alta HR

Eligible claims will receive the bonus by 16/07/18.

  • Does invoice supplied for purchases from TGG ebay store has the same ABN as invoice for items bought instore?
I am planning to combine items bought instore previously with this one for TRS

  • My claim doesn't seem to work for some reason. Tells me to call them up :(

    • +1

You clicked on the wrong $20 claim offer, scroll down below!

      • Sweet, thanks, worked this time!

  • Has anyone received their voucher yet?
