ASUS PG348Q 34-inch 100Hz G-Sync IPS Gaming Monitor $1299 @ PC Case Gear

230

PC Case Gear has lowered the price on this monitor. Scorptec also has it for $1300 until the end of the month. I am not sure if the next generation of this monitor is about to be released, but that may be why they are trying to get rid of stock. I guess that since they have dropped the price, it may indicate that the next generation will come with a lower price tag. A lot of maybes from me. It is still a fairly expensive monitor but it has all the boxes ticked for me. Ultrawide, 100Hz, IPS panel, 1440p, G-sync and height adjustable stand.

For this price it would want to be incredible.

Nope, higher price tag for the next generation of monitors.

    • Is there any information on the web about the next gen? I am not sure what to search for in Google.

      • +3

Not just a higher price tag, but a stupidly high price tag.

They won't sell well at all. The only people who would buy them just dropped 1k+ on a 34" ultrawide or fast 27" GSYNC in the last couple of years and with the state of HDR gaming these days on PC being an absolute joke, there is no reason to upgrade considering there's no GPU that's going to drive 4K at those FPS. They can't even hit it with a 1080ti and 1440p 100+hz now.

        • I just dropped 1k on a 1440p 165hz, only thing im in the market for is a ultrawide for productivity so the hz on a secondary is not crucial but nice. I will probably weigh up between a super-ultrawide (C49HG90) or just going with the new HTC vive with virtual desktop software

          @sageownz:

VR is still very far away from being able to do what you need it to do. I've had my Vive since early 16 and have used VR with better resolutions, but they are still way to low to be useful in a productivity environment.

It's nearly torture to have to watch a movie in such a bad resolution, writing and reading text across multiple virtual displays would be actual torture.

        • @c0balt: "HTC just announced a new Vive Pro with higher-resolution displays and built-in headphones. HTC has increased the resolution of the dual-OLED displays to 2880 x 1600 (1400 x 1600 per eye""78 percent increase" Depending on the FOV/how much of the 360 degrees this resolution takes up I would be happy spinning in my seat to accommodate a bezel-less experience. It is one seamless experience not multiple virtual displays.

        • @sageownz:

Multiple virtual displays = seamless experience, or not if you want to put in virtual bezels.

Have you tried it? I have, I own a Vive, and stand by my comment that if you think that we are at the point where VR hardware can be useful in that application - you are going to have a bad time and a much lighter wallet.

You can buy a Vive Pro today, it's not some future tech like the Pimax 8K or LGs yet un-named superheadet with more than 4x the resolution of the Vive Pro.

Aus retailers recently announced the RRP for the next gen 4k, 144hz, 27inch monitor is a cool $4,500

        • I suspect it will be under $2000 in reality.

You left out HDR although it's limited to 98Hz using HDR at full resolution due to full DP bandwidth being reach.

        • +2

          Hahahahahahahahahaha

          GLWTS.

    • 34" will be mainstream and 38" is going to be a next gen.

  • Um it's not 144hz?

    • +3

Where does it say it is?

    • +3

They were already pushing the boundaries of DisplayPort 1.2 with 3440*1440 at 100Hz (DP 1.2 only supports up to 17.2Gbps) to run 144Hz at that res in 8bit, it would require 21.4Gbps, and this would have required DP 1.3.

Um ultrawide 1440p dont come at 144hz atm

      • No, but Alienware has one at 120hz, which would be nice… but over $2000.

If you contact Dell and ask for the best price you can get the AW3418DW for around $1500 shipped with Dell's fantastic warranty. If you do do this you will get a voucher for $120 off a purchase of $240 or more, ask if you can use that on the extended warranty BEFORE the sale goes through. In Australia they don't allow you to add extended warranty after the sale goes through for some stupid reason.

AW3418DW is still probably the king of monitors when you consider the after sale support.

        • There is the Acer X34P which is ~$1500 which is 100Hz overclockable to 120Hz.

        • @papercutter:

I asked dell for the best price and they said $1750 or so.

Beware the 100Hz isnt guaranted. Mine is stuck at 90Hz. If I select 95Hz or 100Hz, it get a glitch at the top of the screen (flickering bar across the screen).

    • Have you contacted Asus about it?

      • +1

        The item is described incorrectly.

This is a 60Hz monitor overclockable to 100Hz. The buyer is not buying a 100Hz monitor. Anecdotally it seems most people can set 100hz but there is always the chance that you will get less.

$1260 delivered at futu online ebay with 20% off code

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-ROG-Swift-PG348Q-34-LED-LCD…

    • Nice find. They must have adjusted their prices. I checked the ebay sale yesterday and PCCG was cheaper then.

    • Id pay the extra. I wouldn't trust futu to accept returns for blb or whatnot.

  • Scorptec also has it for $1300 until the end of the month.

Cheeky PCCG just had to have the lowest everyday price.

ACER X34 is only $1060 on ebay 20% off
It is the same specs as this screen

FYI these monitors r 3 years old. Old tech. HDR monitors will popping up this year plus HDMI 2.1 Next year. And to top things of its 60hz with luck determining your upto 100Hz OC.

    • +3

Who cares if it's 3 years old? HDR for desktop computing is broken with no signs of it being fixed without further fragmentation (at that point HDR standards shouldn't even exist), DisplayPort overtook HDMI a long time ago when it comes to desktop computing being able to offer superior bandwidth, no licensing fees and compatibility with HDMI and the HRD monitors you are suggesting people get have already got a retail price in Australia, $4500.

'Old' monitors with excellent colour reproduction, response times, viewing angles are still fantastic and will be a much better buy than what you are suggesting.

Calling this thing old is like calling Tailor Swift, ugly.
