        • Thanks for this - is the reverse also true - if getting this card it doesn't kill your 18 month purgatory before applying for a new direct Amex card (e.g. Explorer/Edge/etc) and getting the signup bonus points?

  • Hope the free Amex supplement comes with a different card number

    • Yes, It would have to have an Amex prefix. They would have to identify the surcharge fees to slap you with

    Hi Guys,

I've just received an approval email. however, it did not mentioned about $0 annual fee, 3K spend to get 75K points instead (annual fee $150, plus $50 Qantas fee)
Did you guy get the same? if not, i will need to call them up.

We’re pleased to let you know your application has been approved and your new card(s) will arrive shortly.

Annual Card Fee : $150.00 annual fee. Charged to your account following the first cash advance or credit purchase transaction and charged to your account in subsequent years on or after the anniversary of the first charge.

Qantas Rewards Fee, charged annually: $50.00 including GST. The Qantas Rewards Fee is payable when you choose the Altitude Qantas rewards program. This fee is charged to your account following the first purchase or cash advance transaction made on your card account and then each year on the anniversary of that first purchase or cash advance transaction, for as long as you remain in the Altitude Qantas program

    • Me too. Possibly just a generic letter.

      • anyone different here; letter show $0 annual fee ?

        • I got the same, account has been added to my westpac account. Will call them later to clarify.

    • Same here…

      • anyone call to verify yet?

    • Hey zfcwjc,
Were you able to sort this out with Westpac yet?

If not, could you please message me privately and I can find out more information for you?

      Cheers!

      • +1

called them, just got confirmed (from Application & Progress team) i only pay $50 Qantas reward fee.

      • Hi OP,
Can you confirm the $50 rewards fee? There's no mention of it on the website as being payable

        Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa Card
Annual Card fee: $0 annual card fee in the first year* ($150 thereafter, plus a $50 Qantas Rewards fee applies for customers who choose to earn Qantas Points through the Altitude Qantas rewards program).

American Express® Westpac Altitude Platinum Card
Annual Card fee: $0 for the first year when you apply by 31 July** ($49 thereafter).

        • not sure.. store rep can you please confirm?

        • +1

($150 thereafter, plus a $50 Qantas Rewards fee applies for customers who choose to earn Qantas Points through the Altitude Qantas rewards program)

It does sound like this is for the second year

        • @muncan:

          Hey all,

Confirming that the $50 Qantas Rewards fee is payable in the first year.

          Cheers.

          @findercomau: 💩 thanks

        • @findercomau: nvm. worked it out

        • @findercomau:

Instructions unclear, got my d*** stuck in a toaster 49x.

Finder lied. Said they are waiving the $49 fee for the first year. Honestly, you should be reimbursing us $49 fee.

          https://m.imgur.com/a/tmdDTbG

        • @findercomau:

Is there any way to avoid the $50 Qantas fee?

  • is it also $0 for the first year on additional cards?

    • Hey bkllo00,
There are no extra fees for adding a secondary cardholder to this account.

  • +1

Does having this Amex card make you ineligible for other Amex bonus points offers seeing as it is issued directly from Amex? The deal might not be worth it if so.

  • Applied over three days ago and waiting to hear back - anyone know what their standard processing times are?

    • Shouldn't be that long. Applied and was approved the next day. The westpac card came in the mail the day after.

    • I applied yesterday just before midday, got the conditional approval email straight away and submitted the pay slips, and got the full approval email just before 7PM same day. I also got the initial Amex email which says they will be reviewing the application at 7PM, but then got the full approval email from AMEX at 7:02PM

      • Crazy! Five days later I finally received a conditionally approved email, and have submitted my pay evidence. Now waiting for that one to be approved.

I must have fallen into some crack and my application is being approved slowly!

Ok worked it out for those wondering about this product.

There are two products on offer:

American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Bundle
    https://www.finder.com.au/american-express-westpac-altitude-…
Collect up to 90,000 bonus Altitude Points when you meet the spend requirement and save with a $0 annual fee for the first year.

American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Bundle – Qantas
    https://www.finder.com.au/american-express-westpac-altitude-…
Score up to 90,000 bonus Qantas Points when you meet the spend requirement and save with a reduced annual fee.

Product linked by the OP is the first one. If you were to apply for the Qantas one, the $50 rewards fee applies.

Has anyone who is an existing AMEX Platinum Edge Cardholder tried to apply for this bundle product? What was the response?

    Cheers, Marc.

    • Same question

  • I am having trouble loading the link from finder.com.au
Specifically, the link once it loads into Westpac, then pressing 'apply'.
    Anyone else has this issue?

    • Nope. Use the direct link on page 1.

  • Still can't get confirmation one way or the other on whether this Amex card feeds into the Amex bonus points cycle (ie whether you'll need to wait 18 months after cancelling this Amex card to get other Amex bonus points). There seem to be conflicting answers from Finder employees in the comments on the Finder page. It would be nice to get some clarification as this seems like a pretty major point.

    • As it's a bank issued AMEX I'm pretty sure those sorts of rules only apply to that bank.

      • Yeah that's what I thought, although the Westpac page says "Issued and serviced by American Express" for the Amex. There's nothing in the fine print for this card about being exempt if you have another Amex card but I'm more worried about future promotions…

      • +2

Where does it say bank issued?
I have this card and AMEX confirms it's their card just with a Westpac badge on it.
The only Bank issued Amex is the CBA Diamond
Refer to: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/amexoffers/austra… at the bottom of the page

It's also printed on the card that it's issued BY amex. When I login to amex website, it has the points but it knows it's Altitude points belonging to Westpac.

  • All,

I have received my Cards and activated already. A few notes

    1) The link is not important as to if you get altitude or qff points. It is determined when you do the application and you select qantas or altitude. If you selected qantas you will get the $50 fee.

    2) I have not and cannot activate my amex but i dont really care about the 15k points so may not even activate that card and just smash the amex.

    Anyone anyone thoughts?

    • Why not activated Amex? Even if you don't use it, you may get Amex offers which can be useful?

    • Thanks for the info, I thought that might be the case.

I heard that Westpac are getting rid of AMEX like the other banks but I can't find anything on their website and the google articles were all 6 months old so maybe they aren't??

    • @lextsy: I'd still activate the Amex to avoid the (albeit remote) possibility of complications with receiving the Visa 75K bonus.

@billybob1978: I don't think Westpac are offering Amex anywhere aside from this special offer. I'd see this bundle as an exception and Westpac have already gotten rid of Amex.

      • Thanks for the info. Did not realise they had already got rid of AMEX. I guess this is like a trial to see how many people sign up to get AMEX.

      • +1

I have this card from a previous offer. The Amex is issued by American Express directly and they send the bill. Then you get a separate bill for Westpac for the VISA.

        • Do you have supplementary cards with it and do they have different card numbers?

        • @Peanut money:
I have supplementary cards for both the Mastercard (sorry not VISA) and Amex.
The Mastercards have the same number. The Amex have the last 5 digits different. This way each one can have its own log in and special offers.

  • @findercomau:

While applying, when I reach the page where I need to select the type of rewards program, there is an option to enter the promo code. Since I started the application through finder, its pre-filled with AFF75 but when I press continue, it says

"The special offer code you entered is incorrect. Please re-enter the code or continue applying for the Altitude Platinum Visa Card with standard features."

Its not allowing me to move forward. If I remove the promo code, will I still get the same offer (no annual fee for first year and bonus points on spend)

    • Would like to know this too. I had to remove the prefilled code to continue. And now I’ve got my approval email and it says the annual fee is $150

      • I had this problem also and it's because I attempted to finish the application through the link provided to my email that returns you to the form (I had to close down the application and finish it on another computer).

I had a hunch that if you complete the entire process from going through the Finder link, this wouldn't be a problem. The promo code field prefilled with AFF75 doesn't even appear if you do this, and so it lets you just naturally continue.

So I would recommend starting the whole process again from the original link, so you don't get this problem at all!

        • Thanks.

        • @jsb: Hey jsb and others, please let me know if the fix described by zlot isn't working for you.

Also @lakers1222, were you able to get your annual fee issue rectified? In most cases, others applying have been fine as long as they contact Westpac and give them the details of the finder deal.

        • @findercomau: Hi Store rep, I have an issue with the promo code. Just had a very frustrating call with Westpac customer service

Like zlot, I did not finish the application in one go and instead I came back using the link. It gave me the error that the AFF code was not valid.

Unfrotunately, I did what lakers1222 did as well and I removed it to continue as I thought it was a system error. So now, I have the card and have been using it for the past couple of days but I wanted to clarify whether I was still applicable for this promo

I just called Westpac customer service (got transferred to 3 different teams) and I found out the following:

          • Because I removed the AFF75 promo code to proceed with the application, the code is not listed on my current account
          • Because the card is now activated, they are unable to add the promo code as they can only do it for existing applications (or at least thats what the person kept telling me) and they cannot edit my existing card account.
          • The person on the phone suggested a very pointless solution. Which was to cancel the card, re-apply and hope that I get approved (which is silly because the promo T&C says it is only for new customers)
          • I told her that I couldn't apply for the card because it gave me an error, and if I apply again I'm not eligible for the promo so what can I do? She just said sorry and immediately put me through to the automatic feedback line that happens when you end a call. Very frustrated right now.

I told asked the person that surely there is a way to escalate this or to be able to ask the accounts team to manually edit the account, but she said no.

@finder.com.au was wondering if you have any suggestions? this is pretty ridiculous lol… i got handed off 3 times and had to explain my situation all over again everytime i got transferred

          cheers

        • @findercomau: hi @findercomau, do you know of any other suggestions to solve it? i called westpac but they said they can't solve it. I got put through to the philipines call centre though, will try again today and hopefully i get an aussie so i can explain things better

      • hi @lakers1222, how did you resolve this? i'm in the same boat as you, and the westpac customer service told me they can't make any changes… :(

  • I applied, got approved and recieved my Visa card on Friday.
I called Westpac about the Amex side, they say they have nothing to do with it and to call Amex directly.
A bit of disconnect here :-/

    • I thought I remember reading in the comments that this is an Amex issued Amex, and they were two separate credit applications. That sounded about right to me as banks were not issuing Amex cards anymore these days - so you'll probably get these sort of bank card/amex card offers in the future?

      • Super strange and SUPER CONFUSING… even the Westpac call centre staff had no idea what I was asking.

  • I applied and got approved.Received my Visa card and activated it yesterday.

I called Westpac re the Amex card. Two hours on the phone to Westpac, being passed from one team to another, revealed they know nothing about the 90000 points, no fee, bundled Amex offer.

The Visa card I received is for 60000 points. Not the offer I applied for.

I have a pdf of the application prior to submitting. It clearly states the application is for the Westpac/Amex bundle.

A time wasting, frustrating experience !

  • +4

I called and spoke with an Amex representative and clarified the situation with the Westpac Amex for me:
    * Westpac are essentially giving you an offer to apply for the Amex
    * Although there is Westpac branding on the card, it is directly issued by Amex
    * As the Amex is directly issued, you will be ineligible to receive further Amex offers until the waiting period (18 months typically) has elapsed

    • +1

Which also means if you already have an Amex you won’t get the Amex bonus points.

      • Errr…are you sure? That contradics what others have said here, i.e. this:

        "+3 votes
        points4life on 30/05/2018 - 18:56
This bundled card is issued by Amex directly but it's similar to the DJ Amex card so you will still get the bonus even if you already hold a "real" Amex card or have held one in the past 18 months."

        • Sorry, was late last night and somehow missed Durmax's comment. I suppose I will take Amex's word for it and pass on the Amex for the time being as I just wrapped up my Explorer card. Not to get off topic, but what other Amex options are there for people sitting out the 18-months? I'm keen to have access to the regular Amex statement credit offers but want to cool off for the next 18-months so that I can grab a sign-up bonus.

        • @High PSI: Just did some searching…looks like the DJ AMEX is the only option?

        • @High PSI:
Not familiar with the DJ Amex but the only bank issued Amex is CBA. And they announced this week that they're also shutting that down from Nov 18 : https://www.commbank.com.au/latest/amexclosure.html

That just about ends all options for Amex alternatives.

  • Question: if I am going to sign up just to get the points is it worth paying the $50 Qantas rewards fee or consider Altitude? If I select the Altitude option I would transfer the points to KrisFlyer but I would only get 30k points due to the "3000 Altitude Point for 1200 KrisFlyer Points" transfer rate.

So is it better to get 30k KrisFlyer points for $0 or 75k Qantas points for $50?

    • +1

Not to be snide but if you're not partial to Qantas points, something for free is always going to be financially better or equal to something you have to pay for.

      • +1

Not necessarily. I would pay $5 for 1 24k gold watch than take 100 plastic bracelets for free, even though I'm not partial to gold watches.

The OP has to determine the value of the 40k or 75k Qantas points to them. Would billybob1978 sell them? Go look at the going rate and do the maths. Would
billybob1978 redeem them for a flight? Look at how usable both would be. 30k KrisFlyer points may not be worth much if billy wants a flight that is 125,000 KF's and he doesn't have more KF points to pool them with to hit the redemption desired. He might be better off getting the Qantas and selling them for cash, then using that towards the flight. On the other hand, if he had 100,000 KF's and was eying a business flight to LAX for 125k KF's then you bet those 30k KF points would be the way to go.

        • Well played 👍. Should have added the footnote: Provided neither option is worthless.

  • Has anyone received their Amex card yet?

    • No

    • Got it yesterday.

      • Did you get any phone call, email or text prior that your card is coming?

        • Yes, got a call for a mini and got email after 2 min that application was approved 3-5 days after got my card in the mail.

  • so apparently I got approved by Westpac Visa but rejected by Amex… what does that mean in terms of bonus points earn?

    • How did you know about Amex rejecting your application?
I'm still waiting on some sort of confirmation for the Amex havent heard anything

      • Got a text message to call amex to verify details. Then they told me I was rejected on the phone and that a letter explaining why was coming. Sad.

        • +1

I actually think this is the BEST outcome - you can get way more then 15k amex points with other offers and this will set you back 18 months anyway…

  • Conditionally approved, 120K points I think though.

  • +7

Okay so after a back/fro ping pong call between Amex and Westpac today I've gotten down to the bottom of it.

If you have no idea whats happening with your Amex side of the bundle you'll want to read the below.

When you launch your Westpac app, you will notice that there is an application sitting at 80% for 'Westpac Platinum Visa'.
It's basically asking you to verify your income, debts etc - this information is then moved from Westpac onto Amex to assess your Amex card application, which is definitely a 2nd credit card application. Until this is complete, Amex won't receive their side of the application.

Basically if you don't complete it, you won't get the application through to Amex nor will you receive that card.

Personally in my view, a $50 fee (for the Qantas program) with 75k QF points for spending $3k in 3 months (visa card) is all I'm sticking to.
I don't want another credit card application with the stress of trying to spend another $3k in the same 3 months for a measly 15k points and also remove myself from any other Amex offers that come up in the next 12 months. (sure 1.5 points per $1 sounds great but no thanks)

Each to their own, but I hope this helps those who were thinking wtf is happening and where is my Amex card.
Poor marketing and a shitty product launch by Westpac!

    • So you only applied for the QF VISA?

      • Applied for both - well there is no way to apply for only 1 card with the link from the post.

        • Do you think that not receiving an AmEx card means you haven’t reset AmEx’s 18 month void for bonus points?

        • I don't know.. i'm assuming
The last Amex I had I cancelled approx 1 year ago.

        • @muncan:

Well I got rejected on this card application for the Amex, but got approved for the Visa.. which I am guessing excludes me from the 18 month wait.

        • @iversonjack: that’s a sweet rejection!

        • @muncan: Silver lining I guess… Did take a hit to the credit history though!

        • +1

          @iversonjack: She’ll be right, mate!

        • @iversonjack: How much did it effect it?

    • It is 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on purchases in a foreign currency ONLY , 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent in Australia. The Amex Discovery card will give you the same earn for no fee but of course no bonus as well.

      • Apologies my bad… just trying to help everyone out understanding this super confusing process Westpac has.

    • Thanks for all the info.

I'd be worried that you won't be eligible for the 75k QF points if you don't complete the amex side. Did Amex or Westpac have anything to say about this when you talked to them?

      • They seem to be treated separately.

Receive 75,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude Points
When you apply, are approved and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on your new Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa Card within 90 days of card approval.#

    • Just to clarify, you stopped the application process at the 75% mark where it says,

      "You're nearly there!

Thank you for providing your application details for your Westpac Altitude card.

Please answer these additional questions for the American Express® Westpac Altitude Platinum Card application."

…and you were approved for the QF Visa?

I stopped at that point and received an E-mail saying:

"Thanks for starting your Altitude Platinum Visa Card application.
You can pick up where you left off at any time in the next 14 days - just follow the instructions below."

When I click the link it takes me back to the beginning of the Westpac App. Everything is pre-filled, so I can just keep clicking Continue to cycle through until I hit the Amex app page again….but it doesn't look like I can "finish" my Westpac App without going the whole way through…

    • With mine, I accidentally sent them two copies of the same payslip. Once I fixed that, I didn't hear anything from Westpac for a few days. Then, all on the same day, I got emails from both Westpac and Amex saying I was approved. Just waiting for the cards in the mail now.

    • Update: Last night I received an email stating my Amex application was being reviewed, a minute later another email to state its approved and in the mail.
WTF! Westpac agents have no flipping idea with what is going on. This has been the worst credit card application process ever. It all sits in the customers lap to go through hoops trying to figure out what is actually going on. Not to mention all the confusion from agents and misinformation along the way.
I call Amex and yes they confirm they have an account for me NOW and the card is in the mail.
Westpac = FAIL… probably the 1st and last card I will ever hold with this lot.

      • I went through this process in March and it was much smoother. But I am also not impressed with Westpac the website is horrible I like the ANZ, NAB and AMEX ones a lot better. To be fair Westpac agents do not know about what is happening with the AMEX application because it is being done by AMEX. I am sure there could have been better communication with the agents and you also but this process only started in March and banks move like snails.

Intersting - this is within the comments of the linked-to finder.com.au page:

    Hi Sam,

    Thank you for visiting finder.

Yes, you may still avail the 90,000 bonus points if you are an existing AMEX cardholder as long as it is not Altitude Platinum Visa Card or Altitude Black Mastercard. To avail the bonus points, you must submit your application before July 31, 2018 and meet the spend requirements within 90 days of your cards’ approval.

    I hope this helps.

Let us know if there is anything else that we may assist you with.

    Cheers,
    Ash"

  • I got a "Thank you, we have received your application… we cannot make an immediate decision based on the information you've provided".

And it says next steps is they'll send me an email outlining the documents to verify income and employment details.

Can anyone mention how long it took for them to receive this email requesting payslips? I want to get the card asap so I can make a big purchase :)

    • When I applied for a previous deal I heard nothing for over a week so I rang them and they told me what they needed. I was approved shortly after. Seemed to me like they could not process the volume of applications but if you rang you would go to the front of the queue. The squeaky door gets the oil.

  • Sorry for being naive, but if I have cancelled an Amex card in the past 18 months, am I eligible for this offer?
Edit: And can I assume that you can just take the 75k bonus offer and not choose the Amex option?

  • If my wife is currently a supplementary cardholder to my westpac altitude cc, is she eligible for this offer?
