The application is what affects your credit rating.

    • Applying for a credit card (or any financial product) will impact your credit score. After some months you will see your score increase again (unless you're not repaying your card/loan/mortgage). Keep in mind this particular product will leave you with 2 separate enquiries on your credit score.

    • +5

Seems like your application isn’t the only thing getting rejected

      • It meant to be a warning message as I knew I wasn't the only one got declined due to the same reason from Westpac. If others don't like my comments then by all means.

    • +2

They wanted proof of regular income and you rejected. Did you think they were going to approve you on your scout's honor?

      • What they asked was extra business not proof.

  • -8

Too many places don't accept Amex or charge higher surcharge for using Amex, that's what stopping me from keeping the Amex card but doing this exercise purely for the points seems ok.

    • +5

You literally get an amex AND a visa with this deal.

  • Conditionally approved

  • Cant see a min income listed? Im on 50k and thinking thats too low for this one..

    • Go to the offer page and look at the 'application requirements tab' - it's 50K minimum income

  • So these points are DIFFERENT to amex points? I got the explorer a couple of months ago, now looking for the next card - these points wont combine though correct?

    • +1

"amex points" are either membership rewards or membership rewards ascent etc. This is not that.

    • This is a Westpac card

  • Why would you choose Amex Westpac Altitude Platinum - Qantas card over the non Qantas card?

    • Earn qantas frequent flier points?

    • Because the qantas points are worth more on a 1 to 1 basis.

  • +4

$6k in 3 months is a big ask

    • -7

you must still be in school. you have a big shock coming your way when you grow up

      • +2

        I wish.

I have no doubt I could pull it off (I come to this damn place enough) but based on past points based CC deals I feel $6k is the highest I've seen.

        • I'm doing the Virgin High Flyer at the moment, 3mths, 3k per month, total 9k.
But it has lots of exclusions.

    • +2

I can lend you my family if you want. They'll chew that up for you in no time

  • You mention that you have to apply trough finder.com.au?
    Is that correct?
Cant you just apply trough westpac website?

    • Yes go directly to the westpac site and apply for the same deal and no referral bonus to the original poster

  • can't find "If you choose the Amex Westpac Altitude Platinum - Qantas card, you’ll only pay a $50 Qantas rewards fee in the first year." from the application web pages. Does anyone find this from the page?

      • Still don't see this. I can only fine either,

Annual Card fee: $0 annual card fee in the first year* ($150 thereafter, plus a $50 Qantas Rewards fee applies for customers who choose to earn Qantas Points through the Altitude Qantas rewards program).

        OR

*Annual card fee waiver: $0 first year annual card fee promotion. The first year annual card fee waiver is available when you apply for a new Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa Card between 28 May and 31 July 2018. The first annual card fee will be debited on the 12 month anniversary of the first transaction (including balance transfers) on your account and annually thereafter.

  • +1

    Minimum income?

    • Yes keen to know too, appears to not be listed

  • +1

Anyone find the minimum annual income required?

  • +1

Wow that's so painful. My partner signed up for this about 2 weeks ago. I wonder if we can get this honored?
This is the link to Finder's page: https://www.finder.com.au/american-express-westpac-altitude-…

    $50000 minimum income

    • https://www.finder.com.au/westpac-altitude-platinum-credit-c… $30k minimum for just the Visa for those who don't meet income requirement, I assume you can apply for it separately and just cash in on the 75k points without the extra 15k on the AMEX.

(Note don't use above link to apply - that's the full price 60k points for $150 annual fee link, use deal link)

Edit: Not sure you can actually apply for the two cards separately on this deal

  • Oh well, just bite the bullet. Even though I don't get the bonus point due to existing Altitude Black card member, at least I am still accumulating points. Only a bit lose of earning points comparing to Black card.

    • Why are you applying even if you have altitude black?

Just closed my qantas altitude black so i assume no bonus points for me too?

      • I applied Platinum one. From my past experience, they still give the bonus points when you reach the spending requirement. I will take a risk as I almost have nothing to lose, just lesser earning points comparing to Black rates. You can try to apply for the Platinum if you have never have the card for the past 12 months.

  • Does the amex attached to this allow access to the amex lounges at airports? Cba have announced they are closing off the amex like every other bank so am looking for a new card

    • Oh? Where's the info on that? I was searching to see if CBA will hold on or not but haven't found details.

edit: and no, amex lounge applies to Altitude Black AMEX, not Platinum AMEX.

  • I wonder if this application will have 2 credit checks: one from Westpac and another from Amex?

  • Thanks. I just applied.
Just in case, is there any reminder such as app, web .. to close the account on the time?

    • Add it to your own calendar

  • I closed my Westpac Qantas black (visa and Amex) in September

Currently I have the Amex issuer Qantas card ( which stupidly didn't check I didn't wait the 18 months buffer - and didn't get the bonus points of 100k :(

So with this deal, am I able to get the visa still? With platinum? Or no cause I had the black card before? And I won't be able to the the Amex bonus cause I have current Amex?

Am looking at the ANZ Qantas but I got declined in September after closed my Westpac. But accepted by Amex Qantas

So a bit worried to try anz but Im losing out on my points as I don't have a visa or Mastercard!

  • Got only 20k bonus points for my Westpac AMEX platinum, sigh.

  • +5

The 75K points and $50 (Qantas rewards) annual fee alone make this a good deal to me. (up from the normal 60K points + $200 annual fee) As others have suggested, not going to touch the Amex.

    • Doesn't look possible to get the Visa only card without the Amex to get the 75k points via the promo link.

It won't let you proceed without checking the -

"If Westpac approves my Westpac Altitude card and is satisfied I could service additional credit I consent to my information being shared with American Express to assess my application for an American Express® Westpac Altitude Card."

      box.

      • I was just on the phone with Westpac and they said it was optional. Having said that I haven't applied to confirm.

        • I believe they are thinking about the normal application. I was on the phone for 40 minutes and transferred back and forth 7 times and no department is aware of this deal, nor could they control it or apply this offer retrospectively to my recently successful application. Finder does state on their website it is strictly online only which may explain why the phone operators aren't familiar with it

      • I just meant get the Amex but not use it.

        • +3

I'm trying to avoid another credit enquiry for a card I wouldn't use ie. the Amex card as part of the bundle.

  • Hi guys, I'm keen to apply.

Would you recommend going for the Qantas card or is there a way to transfer Altitude Points into Velocity/Emirates/other FF programs?

    Cheers, Marc.

    • Usually if you're in the Qantas program, your points can only go to Qantas. If you're in the Bank's reward programs, they usually allow you to transfer to a few other partners (eg Velocity, Krisflyer etc). Check the details though as I don't know the nuances of Altitude, but that's the gist 99% of the time I've found.

    • yes your can transfer Altitude Points into Velocity/other FF programs. also I think if you have a business altitude credit card you can transfer to Qantas too thus saving having to pay the $50 program fee? does anyone know if you can transfer Westpac Altitude Points to another family members account?

      • At 1:1 exchange rate? I think velocity is 2:1 so better off paying the 50$ for the Qantas.

  • such a good card but I can't apply as I don't have PR….

    • Are you on 457? Thets usually fine

      • nah, I'm on 485. I already have a qantas card from anz but can't have any amex cards.

  • Thanks mate.

  • Is paying my ATO bill going to be an eligible purchase to get the bonus points ?

    • its considered a cash advance

    • You will not earn points for ATO payments issued by WESTPAC: https://www.westpac.com.au/docs/pdf/pb/credit-cards/Altitude… (Section 4.4)
So do you get points with AMEX? According to the website below you get 0.5x per $1

I usually refer to this website: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/westpac-altitude-…
but if anyone has the official Westpac Altitude documentation which states this, I'd appreciate the link.

Points earned from spend with the Visa:
0.5 Qantas Points or 1 Altitude Points for every $ spent on the Visa

Points earned from spend with the American Express:
1.5 Qantas or 3 Altitude Points per $ on foreign currency spend
1 Qantas or 2 Altitude Points per $ on domestic spend
0.5 Qantas or Altitude Points on government spend

Confusing. Not sure if it's considered a cash advance as the terms don't state that. Just no points for Westpac issued but 0.5 point/$1 for Amex.

  • +3

Is there any way i can apply for only the VISA card? Cant progress without checking the box on westpac sending my info to amex. not really fussed about the amex card.

    • no you can't on the application

    • It's a bundle… you have to apply for both.
You can get the Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard with 60k points but that's a different deal.

      • I was hoping the same to avoid 2 credit enquries vs the 1.

        • In that case go for the just go for the Westpac Mastercard black with 80k and pay the $250 fee. I'd pay $250 not to get hit twice on my score.

        • @points4life:

          Higher income requirements.

  • +1

Has anyone had any luck applying with Westpac as a contractor?

    • -4

Wouldn't you just provide a payslip? What is the issue?

  • Do I need to pay the $50 Qantas rewards fee if I am already holding a QFF account?

Is this paid to Qantas or Westpac?

    • Sounds like a Westpac fee for opting into the QFF option

  • +4

OP can you confirm if 75k offer can be accessed seperate to 90k? ie just the visa with no bundled AMEX?

    • I'd be all over it if that was the case! What can do you for us OP?

  • +5

I applied when I saw the deal posted, got the conditional approval email asking for payslip - they have a new system where you can verify this. Did that, then in an hour I was approved email with tis on the bottom of the email:

"We have also given American Express your application details for the American Express ® Westpac Altitude card for their assessment. They will contact you directly regarding your application."

Looks like its definitely 2 applications and the Amex part sits with Amex directly.

    Pretty quick turn around though!

    • Got the approval as well and an email just then letting me know the card is on its way. However the included fact sheet shows the annual fee. Is yours the same?

      • Yep same.. i assume generic

  • Additional cardholders?

  • Hi all,

It seems BPay and BPay related transactions are excluded from the offer (for bonus points). Do you know how POST billpay are classified?

    Thanks

    • isn't billpay provided by BPay? If it is I think you know the answer…

    • Use PayPal for POST Billpay to get points.

      • Just be careful. The Virgin Credit card doesn't allow the Paypal loophole anymore.

      • Thanks mate. Are you sure these transactions will not be classified as exclusions? I have about $2k a month going to billpay.

  • Thanks op. Was looking for a good deal after cancelling ANZ black.
Now it's time to dump AMEX Explore before renewal charge comes up.

  • Bah. I just spent like $5000 on a holiday recently.

I cancelled my AMEX card 3 months ago. Am I eligible?

  • If you choose the Amex Westpac Altitude Platinum - Qantas card, you’ll only pay a $50 Qantas rewards fee in the first year.

So the free one is only the Altitude without Qantas? Are the bonus points Altitude points or still Qantas points? Title is a bit misleading

    • The free one will only earn Altitude points

  • Is this better than the ANZ FF black?

    • 🌮

  • anyone threaten to cancel their Altitude cards to see if they'll offer us the 90k points? :)

  • Is it possible to sign up to one of these credit cards, spend the rewards points then cancel the card? Would it affect my credit rating?

    • Yes and Yes.
As long as you haven't had a Westpac Altitude card in the previous 12 months

  • Is this only worthwhile if you fly a lot?

    • +1

I wouldn't say that. The points only expire if you leave them untouched - earning more points keeps them going. You can also use the points to buy gift cards, but it's no where near as good value as using them on flights.

    • +1

you can use it to buy stuff at the Qantas FF shop; although generally its only worthwhile when they have a sale on (and its a limited range). But even if you dont fly much, they can sit there and be used for upgrades etc

  • +1

This bundled AMEX is really busting my balls.

    Separate credit check
    Separate spend criteria
When I dump my Velocity Amex this card is going to extend the 18 month gap before I can get another AMEX with bonus points.

But am thinking the $50 for 75K Qantas points is going to be worth it. Just dump it ASAP.

    • Does this Westpac AMEX card count as an AMEX card for the purpose of the 18 month rule. I thought not given it is bank-branded. Have the rules changed?

      • +3

This bundled card is issued by Amex directly but it's similar to the DJ Amex card so you will still get the bonus even if you already hold a "real" Amex card or have held one in the past 18 months.
