[WA] iPad Air 16GB Wi-Fi (1st Gen) $229 in-Store Only @ Target Fremantle, Rockingham, Ocean Keys

621

The gift of Target clearances keep giving. While looking for an iPod today as per this post I came across these. At the time of posting I can confirm Fremantle has a heap, all sealed at the Digital counter upstairs. I didn't buy as I didn't need.

I asked if they had any others but they said they went on clearance the other week and the other models sold out fast. Sadly iPad Air 2 32GB were $199 but didn't last long. Possible there is some stock still around so I have added those links for reference/Hail Mary for you all.

Great price for the mini 4 and air 2. mini 2 and Air 1 is ok.

  • +2

    No stock anywhere near ACT

    • Thanks mate.

  • +7

limited sometimes means none as well :) Normally the staff buy them when they dropped in price

    • That is true, I jus called Belconnen store in ACT, apprantly none in stock, even though it says limited on website

      • +8

Because your call most likely informed the staff member who bought the remaining unit.

        • +1

I remember a few years ago Bigw selling out iphones.. went into the store straight away after the post
The guy behind the counter said none left he been looking for one for himself in all the cupboards :) and calling other stores after checking stock on computers :)

        • Can confirm we keep stock for ourselves but if you call then it's fair game and we'll keep it for you if it's not already on hold.

        • @nurries:
          Sure you will… ;)

          @DonaldDr4per:

Next time someone puts stock on hold under the name of DonaldDr4per, I'll just hang up ;) haha

          Hey, it's Dick Whitman here…

  • 1 iPad Air 1 Silver at Maribyrnong. Who is going to be there at 8am to try and find it? (If it’s there at all)

  • +3

I have an air 2 and on the latest version of iOS it's starting to show signs of it age. Still a great device, especially if you can find one at $199. Wouldn't want a 1gb Apple device at this point, especially with only 16gb of storage.

    • Lol in my household we have an iPad 2. Still use it every day.

The IPad 5G can still be had for $339 refurbished just brought 2 last week. Was posted here a few weeks ago. None again today.. Keep seeing them go in and out of stock. so keep a eye out

  • Too old for the Air 1 to be much of a deal and virtually no stock showing around the country.

  • +5

I absolutely don’t recommend getting this unless it has the old iOS version. Since updating to the latest iOS my iPad lagged so much, basic operations like typing and switching between apps are a pain.

I since got the latest 9.7” iPad which is a pleasure to use again but I hate that they bloated the most recent OS.

    • Yes, 1gb of ram isn't enough. The iPad air 2 now reloads pages in the browser all the time. Never used to do that. The iPad air though has always struggled with browsing because of lack of ram.

      • +1

Totally agree. Even when it was the latest and greatest device it was so rubbish with web browsing, which is my only use for a tablet. Hated the constant lag.

iPad Air 1… can that even take ios11?

  • +1

So basically zero stock Australia wide.

  • Should I risk driving to Bankstown to check for the limited stock of the Ipad Air 2 in gold… might not make it back alive.

    • Hi mysterymeat BANKSTOWN is my local store will be heading there.

I am assuming limited stock maybe more than one…

      • +4

Limited stock is code for "on hold for staff"

        • Sounds about right

Any feedback on the iPad 2 air in terms of iOS update or it should be ok?

        • +1

@chocis6: Well if I get there before you or visa versa I'll let you know.

        • @Mysterymeat:

That’s fair let me know and I will let you know when I arrive

    • +1

You know you can ring them up and get them to hold one?

      • Hi penny pincher I don’t think the store will open till 8am which will be the time I arrive

        • Oh :( in that case you'll probably have to chance it I guess.
If you are already going that way it's not so bad but going out of your way for potentially nothing is not good :/

        • +1

          @pennypincher98:

Hahaha yeah have a day off today and it’s literally down the road worth a shot

        • @chocis6: Any luck mate? I called the store at 7:45 am. Lady over the phone told me to call after 8. Now it says, unfortunately I am calling after store trading hours. Funny

        • +1

          @ashftc:

Hi buddy it was missing stock

          Oh well worth a shot

        • @chocis6: Definitely!

    • Don’t bother, I wasted my time going in there and they didn’t even have any. Apparently they didn’t even receive any.. yeah right ! Staff probably took em all

      • Is that Bankstown store you're talking about?

        • +1

          Yup, Bankstown

  • Since when did these stores have stock as nothing shows up.

    WA
    - Fremantle
    - Rockingham (Limited)
    - Ocean Keys (Limited)

    • Op said fremantle had some unless now sold out otherwise the online stock count is not accurate.

  • +3

Per others above, I'm using an air 1 now, its borderline unusable with the last iOS update. I think 1 more iOS update and it's bin time for this old friend which was once the pride of the fleet.

    • +11

Wonder when a class action will occur for Apple deliberately offering iOS upgrades without telling customers that it will degrade performance to force a customer to upgrade to a newer device.

      • I'm still using an iPad 3rd gen lol, slow as…… good thing is, it will never get any update so performance cannot be further degraded.

      • +1

That's not just Apple, i remember my nexus 7. When updated to android 5 became totally unusable. I had stopped using it since.

        • It's the nature of updates. Adding extra features usually slows down the os. Bit like how Samsung offer a feature rich boated version of Android at the expense of performance.

    • Yep same. I remember when ipads used to last forever

My air is so laggy lol. Used to be so snappy. Im literally doing the same stuff. Web browsing.

      • +1

That's the whole point or else no one would need to upgrade.

        • Remember your old FM radio that didn't need an upgrade to listen? I think he's implying the same thing.

      • I’m still happy with the Air 2. I was never happy with the air. To be fair the iPad Air is coming up to 5 years since being released. Doubt it sees iOS 12.

  • +2

    Picked up a new sealed 2018 iPad 32GB 4G for $350 off gumtree and a 2017 for $230.

    • Must be from Optus plan

    • Wait isn't the iPad air decent specs both 1 and 2 over original iPad's?

  • +1

Interesting to read about these complaints that the iPad Air is slow on iOS11. I’ve got one myself and it’s certainly not the fastest, for me it’s a great device to watch Netflix on (beautiful screen) or to read the newspaper and also more than capable of normal web browsing and email. I’m always the first to notice lag on my iPhone but for some reason, I don’t mind it on the iPad. Perhaps because I’m never in a rush when using an iPad (at home).

  • Are we able to get a price match from somewhere ?

    • Who is still selling such outdated devices?

  • Only reason for me to get the current gen over this is apple pen.

  • Target Earlville (Cairns) shows limited stock. Telephones at 8:01 am and the assistant said sold out. Walked into the store at 10:00 and confirmed they had none. 😪

  • Anyone get one from fremantle store?

    • Just got my wife to pick one up from Freo for my mum - sounds like they had quite a bit of stock still. I called first to reserve one and the guys said don't bother reserving there are lots, but got him to anyway.

BTW my mum is 82 and computer illiterate- need to teach her how to browse, e-mail and skype which will be the main use for the pad so the ipad won't get stretched much. I won't upgrade the IOS (think it comes with 9.?).

      Thanks OP.

      • Air 2 or air?

        • Air 1 $229 as per OP. Realise there were better deals but they had no stock.

Played with it last night - comes with IOS 8.4. Will not upgrade (would like to upgrade to IOS 9.x, but you can't). Had to install Gmail app to get gmail to work - could not get gmail through the standard mail setup in settings, kept falling over.

Otherwise looks like it will be fine for what i want to do with it.

        • @Lead Wings: definitely don't update to IOS11. But keep in mind a lot of apps require IOS 11 to work. Sad that Apple is dodgy to slow down older gen idevices with IOS11 and my kids have so many paid apps so I am forced to fall for this trap and bought iPad 2017 for him.

  • Checked up on Mini 4 and Air 2. No stock anywhere in WA.

  • +3

Not one person apart from the OP has been able to find stock. I don't consider this a deal as there's insufficient quantity. I appreciate the OP's post just in case there was however.

    • +1

Hey mate, definitely stock in Fremantle still. Someone above got one and confirmed stock still available.

This deal is for the listed stores in WA only, can’t confirm any of the others as I can’t actually go there to check.

Appreciate the neg and comments though, I understand it’s a very limited set of stores and stock but the stock in the main store I posted (Fremantle) definitely had enough to qualify for a post.

      Thanks

      • +1

Don't take the neg personally. I really appreciate anyone that takes time to post on here to help others. As you mentioned it was a 'Hail Mary' for 99.9% of the OzBargain population. Personally I feel stock needs to be available for at least 5% of the population to make it a viable post but that's my opinion only. Glad to hear freemantle is pulling through for those lucky enough.

        • I’m not, sorry if the message came across wrong. All good man, just wanted to try and be positive on here and try accept everyone’s opinion. Dunno why OPs take deals personally, I’m not Target not a rep for them and I’m not personally selling any stock heh. Just think it was a fair call for anyone not able to get to Fremantle to get one.

Anyways good luck to everyone else, hopefully someone can obtain one.

        • @Mysterymeat: What do you think of the deals where some company is giving away a beverage (Red Bull, Choc Milk etc.) at a particular train station? (eg. Central in Sydney or Flinders Street in Melbourne) - Should they be posted?

        • Wow, and how did you come up with that percentage…..?
