iPod Touch Silver 6th Gen 32GB $100 @ Target

I was in Target Canberra Centre when I [noticed the iPod touch was on sale. Gold and Grey were down to $250 but Silver for some reason was down to $100 (see photo). There were a few left when I was there.

  • Damn, good price for one for the kids!

  • Silver's not even on Target's website. Maybe that's why?

    • I still have a Creative Zen…

  • Seems like quite a lot of stores showing "limited stock" across (Northern) Sydney if anyone's interested.

    • +4

Macquarie says “limited stock” but I was there at 5:15pm and they were all gone (apart from 1 that was “on hold” awaiting pickup).

      • +1

You literally saved me a trip to Macquarie. Thanks, bro.

      • That's funny I was there around 3:30pm and there was 2 still left. Didn't grab because I didn't need.

I guess it's still 1hr 45min for one to bought and another held.

I always phone the store beforehand if I see limited stock on a clearance item.

  • My wife wants to start out in iOS development but I am hesitant to drop hundreds of dollars on an iPhone. Would this be sufficient?

    • Check stock levels before you go down that path

      • +2

Stock levels aside, Im more interested in general whether an iPod Touch would suffice when doing iOS development to test apps, or whether the proper/best way would be to actually develop and test on an iPhone.

        • -7

          definitely test on an iphone.

The market is iphone not ipod touch..

        • +4

@pinkybrain: They pretty much the same thing, this iPod is using the iPhone 6 cpu

        • -7

          @Jetship:
Yes, but it is still better to test on an actual device you want to sell apps on.

not to mention an iphone has other features that an ipod touch lacks.

And in terms of IOS updates, iphone would get more updates..

        • +5

          @Jetship:

yep, they just took out the phone tx piece,

it's the same as an ipad for apps, we've got one as it was a cheaper way to have IOS in the pocket without buying iPhone as some apps my son wanted were ios only.

        • @garage sale:

we've got one as it was a cheaper way to have IOS in the pocket

          Yes, great for non-iphone users,
when there is something you want which is apple store only.
Can just comnect to wifi, hotspot from your main phone, for data :)

I also use some old cheap asf ipods/iphones just because of the music docking. Picked up great little alarm clock with the old iphone connector for $10 .
And picked up portable unit with 10 hours battery life, 4 speaker stereo again with old iphone dock comnector for $12.
Generally CEX store has gone downhill, buy for less, sell for more policy… However some great deals can be had if you search their site webuy.com for units that dock with the old iphone/ipod connector.
Apparently there are adapters for lightening connector, to use the cheap older connection speaker dock units. The adapters don't always work for every function on every dock though. But the adapters are $10 or $20 I think.
If you order online, they have $3 delivery pee item, and 12 day change of mind, type return, after receiving . I ordered 2 of the logitech portable anywhere docks, 1 didnt work. The other has battery cover missing on remote. So I ordered a 3rd 1 lol, and I will keep the remote of the 3rd 1, of it is complete. And return the other 2.

The main concern would be the version of iOS the device supports, if its the latest, then all good. Very common for iPod touches to be used for app testing in my experience.

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP720?locale=en_AU&viewlocale=e… shows that iOS 11 is supported!

        • @neil aus: Thanks!!

        • @Trishool: good luck to your wife on app development I am also pursuing this field as well asking with some pc development.

Check if PUBG mobile or vainglory runs on your touch.. that should determine if it is good enough to run some intensive games.

I sold my iPhone 6 128gb for $400 to cash converters in October last year

        • -8

Id love to believe that. But i dont.

        • +4

          @TightTerry:

          You don't have to believe

I posted an ad on gumtree and they replied offering $400. I quickly went next day and sold it to them so they didn't change their mind

        • +1

@TightTerry: yeah but you’re just some random on the internet so who cares what you believe.

        • @TightTerry: You might need some explanation as to what happened here. Before you doubt people, check their credentials. EC has been around for like ever and done heaps of great posts, that builds a lot of trust.

      • lol

    • +1

yep, runs same stuff as an ipad

    • You could just use a virtual phone that is implemented in the ioS Dev thing they use (i think it was called iCODE)

      • X code?

Not sure why you have downbeards :/

    • My wife wants to start out in iOS development but I am hesitant to drop hundreds of dollars on an iPhone. Would this be sufficient?

Does she have a Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac or iMac Pro? Or, she intends to go with Hackintosh? An iPhone is generally required as you would prefer to target iPhone market, rather than iPod Touch market. This one is kinda like iPhone SE with weaker CPU and without phone, GPS, 3G/4G.

      • if it works on this it works on ipad …. if it works on ipad it works on iPhone …

the lack of the phone component limits use with applewatch ….. doesn't work as apple watch wants to use the phone as its gateway to the internet.

    • +3

you can test on the mac. You don't need an iphone to develop an app unless your app is related to phone call/ msg.

    • +4

Yeah it’s fine. Just test screen sizes on the simulator and use the iPod touch for hands on testing.

  • +5

Between these needle in a haystack and firearm deals, OzB has been annoying of late.

    • +4

It was the whole gun "thing" that did me in.

      • +1

Yep, especially since it's the bullets that hurt people.

      • -1

would you be as hurt if it was knife deals?

A knife would likely have killed/hurt more people than guns have in Australia (due to our strict gun control laws)

        • +1

OMG it's not about what kills/hurts more people!!!
It's about the massive controversy and shitstorm that follows from every deal from both sides.

        • @pennypincher98:

Personally I don't give a shit about gun deals been posted.
I just ignore it if it doesn't interest me.

I didn't even know if it is easy to buy guns in Australia…

Don't why they can put deals for guns..

is it that easy to get a gun in Australia?

        • +1

@pinkybrain: No it's not easy, but a bargain is a bargain.

      • Quick, can we have a safe space over here for these people. Stat for those that watch american medical shows.

Perhaps a valium or 2 might help in these trying times.

      • For me it was the flood of junk food deals, given that CVD kills 45,000 Australians a year I'm really upset by OzB promoting genocide.

    • Hmm I’m kind of the opposite actually. OzBargain used to be almost only needle in haystack deals. Now it’s your first stop for 30% off luggage.

  • -1

I can use my mobile phone to listen to music…what's the point to buy a ipod?

    • +16

so you can have 2 screens and listen to 2 songs (1 each ear) at the same time

      • +3

        Good idea. Buought one!

    • +13

Cheaper and better alternative for a child that doesn't need a mobile phone.

    • +4

Yeah i mean if it doesn't fit your requirements then i suppose apple better take it off the market. Its not like people might want to go running or workout with one of these, or they have kids that dont have a mobile they might want to buy it for.

    • +5

My car has native iPod support, so I just have a 120gb classic sitting in there with thousands of tracks shuffling away

    • +4

It’s literally an iPhone in every way without cellular. Or an iPad in small form factor. This is a bargain.

    • This is basically a smartphone without cellular. If you’re usually within range of WiFi, it could almost substitute for a phone. Hell, but it and use it when overseas - just pick up a mobile hotspot device and you’re set.

But dedicated music players also have their place. The iPod isn’t a particularly good one for that purpose in this day and age, but I listen to music on a Sony Walkman device. Audio quality is significantly better than my phone (its DAC is much better), and I don’t burn through phone battery syncing music from the cloud and playing audio. I just put my whole music collection on an SDXC card in a lossless format - there’s no need to compromise on quality, because the entire device is dedicated to audio.

    • It's a little smaller and lighter than their mobile phone offerings so it makes a great portable music player for running etc

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if they can price match with Officeworks ?

    • Your post beat me by 28 seconds =)

      • +5

You beat me by 3 hours and 51 minutes

    • unless you can find stock at a local store, no chance

      • Actually ow will price match as long as their competitors website shows the identical item details advertised.

        • That’s not always true, last month when I price matched something they made sure they had stock

        • Not true at all.. I know this has happened in the past for some people usually cos they picked out the biggest dooface with zero people skills to price match at the counter but generally any rep. with half a brain and an ounce of intelligence will make you prove there is stock available around your locations or online. Since this is not available online and stock is non existent in most states.. good luck

    • Out of stock for most of the post codes around me

  • What about JB reckon they will price match?

    • +6

      Tell 'em they're dreamin'!

      • +1

        lol
Remember when JB used to be cheap? Someone needs to rip them a new one for the “always lowest prices” written over the top of their doors.

    • They do I just got 4 from jb

  • Just thought about it, I use spotify for my music. Don't think there would be much use for this.

    • +1

my son has an ipod touch but spotify and his data plan has made it a dust collector …. now just uses it for extra game accounts so he doesn't have to change accounts between game on his phone and tablet for 3rd account ????????

    • Doesn’t the Spotify app work on an iPod touch?

    • Can always download music offline in spotify (assuming you have a paid account) when connected to wifi as an option

  • Says limited stock Perth store but they said silver sold out when I rang.

    • Ocean Keys has 16GB units left for the same price if that interests anyone

  • Says limited stock in Cranbourne store but they said silver sold out when I rang.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Checked online and called the store to hold the last one they had in stock. Needed one to replace the aging iPhone 4 I have been using with my Sony music system.

    • You called the cranbourne store..

      • I am in Brisbane so one of the local stores.

      • It was me who called Cranbourne store did you answer the phone?!
