[QLD] AGL Solar 20c/kwh FIT - Up to 10kw Systems

80

No discount applicable though. The sums for my household definitely have AGL way out in front with this deal.

  • FYI, it seems to be in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland (where AGL operates). Max size of solar system is 10kw so can't have anything bigger than that.

Also, The Solar Savers electricity plan lasts for 24 months (but has no lock in contract) so it would seem that the higher FIT only lasts 24mths?

  • It appears that way yes, 20c FIT for 24 months. No lock-in contract though and no exit fees that I can see.

Also, the solar meter charge (7c ex GST per day) is actually included in the daily supply charge rate (which is $1 ex GST) whereas on other plans it is usually on top of the daily supply charge.

    • Actually the solar metering charge of 7c ex GST they charge in addition to the daily supply charge on this plan, regardless of what the price fact sheet says. I've seen this in a confirmation email from someone that signed up to this deal with AGL.

      • That's interesting. I specifically asked about this and the guy at AGL said they've waived it. What's the point of that clause then!?

        • I'll take the liberty of sharing, there doesn't seem to be anything personal in it: https://imgur.com/gYUvA2M

        • @adam:

Thanks, that's disappointing. I'd love to know what that part of the price fact sheet is referring to then

  • FYI for those living in Ergon areas of QLD. I'm pretty sure we still don't have a choice about our electrical retailers.

    • But they still get cheaper power.

  • Nice find! Looks better than my diamond energy, as their FIT of $0.20 is capped pretty low

  • Nice find. I might have to move providers yet again.

  • Usually the daily connection charge is really high on these large FIT solar plans, this is a really good deal. Have just signed up, switched from Diamond. Thanks OP!

I'm already with AGL how do I get this 🤔

  • I’m getting 16 cents FIT, plus 28% discount on usage from Energy Aus. Proabably a better deal than the posted deal. I haven’t receive my first bill yet so not sure if it was error on my contract or not..

    • I've done the sums for my household.

AGL (this plan) puts me in credit for $139.
Energy Australia's plan (as you've listed above - not an error btw) puts me in credit of $97.

AGL came out $42 a quarter better off.

      • The Ozbargain Electricity Prices Spreadsheet can compare the exact prices for you. The AGL Solar Plan isn't their flagship plan so is in a hidden column you'll need to expand.

        • I created my own spreadsheet very similar to this - the figures are identical so at least I know I did it right haha

That's a great speadsheet for anyone who hasn't already got one

        • So how do you expand these hidden columns? It's not obvious to me

        • @k23man: Don't worry. Worked it out…..

        • I think there is some errors in the Ozbargain Price spreadsheet for Queensland. The feed in Solar Tariff for AGL is actually 10.6c/kwh, not 6c/kwh listed in the spreadsheet. This can be found here:

          https://www.agl.com.au/-/media/agldata/distributordata/pdfs/…

Also the set and forget discount is current 28%, not the 12% in the spreadsheet.

If you factor both changes AGL comes out significantly better in front compared to most retailers and Origin, especially for solar customers.

      • Thanks will do the same. Haven’t had any credits since I sold my original house that was eligible for solar bonus scheme.

  • I get around 12-14% discount on Agl with gas too but 16c. Need to work out if this is better, doubt it.

    • I get 22% discount (12% pay by direct debit + 10% for having both gas and electricity with AGL) for gas, which still applies.

  • Just confirmed with Pearl at AGL that this deal doesn't include pay on time discount of 25%.

My last bill would have been around $5 better off with the .20 feed in, however coming into winter my feed in will be less, so will be worse off in the colder months, overall I won't be better off. But this will vary, I guess, for everyone. I have a 6kw system.

    • I was getting 28% pay on time discount. This plan, for me, works out $42 better off a quarter. We have an 8.4kw system but we're also not home during the day so all the energy we produce ends up back into the grid so the more for us, the better.

  • What is the supply and usage charges

  • Payment processing fee
    Percentage of bill - 0.45%
The amount is GST inclusive and applies to payments made by debit and credit cards.

  • What isn't shown properly is the total FIT for old installations. Is it 44 cents or 64 cents?

    • 54.6c for PFIT I think

    • Solar feed-in tariff options
Solar bonus scheme pre 9 July 2012 44 cent
      scheme(exc. GST)
      (cents per kWh exported)
      44.00
AGL Retailer Feed-in Tariff plus AGL Solar Savers
      bonus (exc. GST) 20.00

      • My understanding is it will be 64c in total (44c scheme + 20c AGL)

          Solar feed-in tariff options
          - Solar bonus scheme pre 9 July 2012 44 cent scheme(exc. GST) (cents per kWh exported) 44.00
          - AGL Retailer Feed-in Tariff plus AGL Solar Savers bonus (exc. GST) 20.00 (cents per kWh exported)

One or the other not both

It was always 44c with AGL, not 44c plus 8c
The 20c is for people that cant get the 44c, why would electricity supplier pay more then they have to, they already trying to get money back with solar supply and higher supply charges

        • @asa79: Pretty sure it's $0.44 + $0.20. The 20c per kWh is an incentive to sign up with AGL as opposed to another retailer.

        • @k23man: is that what agl told you?

        • @asa79:

My father has been getting 44c + 10.6c (54.6c total) for ages with AGL. I have proof of this on his bill. He signed up for this deal recently too and gets 64c now.

The 44c comes from the Government - nothing to do with AGL. AGL are offering the 20c on top.

The government 44c scheme ended years ago and I missed out therefore I only get 20c although I believe a small portion of that 20c is made up of some from the Government as well but I'm unsure how much exactly.

This looks like an awesome deal for people with large solar systems. I especially like the 2-year guaranteed feed in rate. This looks to be taking aim at Origin's Solar Boost plans, which they've beaten with a longer locked-in period and higher feed in rates, although the Origin plan does at least have a 10% usage discount.

What this also does is really cement how worthwhile getting Solar panels can be. Even if you didn't consume any of the electricity they produced, a 6.6kW system in Adelaide with un-shaded north-facing panels could get you almost $2000 a year in feed in tariffs, which means the cheapest systems available (advertised for $3,700 or so for a 6.6kW system) could be 100% paid off before the 2-year guaranteed rate from AGL expires - a simply amazing return on investment and even better if you actually use the electricity. Not that I would recommend getting the cheapest possible system - I'd pay a bit more for quality and the return would still be amazing.

However, personally I'd wait another few weeks - Origin, AGL and Energy Australia usually update their electricity prices on 1 July and Origin already have a note on their site saying the new rates will be available on the site from 15 June. I think it would be worth waiting until you can see the new rates from everyone and then comparing. I was and still am very happy with my 18c FIT guaranteed from Origin for 12 months, but if they don't improve that in the next few weeks, it looks like I might be jumping ship to this deal.
