  • Thanks OP, I’d go Bunnings as better price beat 10 vs 5 %. Just checked same product code so can’t do their dodgy it’s a different model scam. Also allow you to get the cheaper chimeras in this post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/381403

Really like the idea of this, heard v1 laggy and delays in being notified so by the time you get the notification they’ve already left your home - unless your internet is good. Also have to pay subscription for video records? Any feedback on v2 would be great.

    • $207 at Bunnings with price beat is a great price fo V2.

Better get in today before they update their price

    • Would also like to know if it's worth it considering the fact I have to pay a subscription for cloud storage. Is there a similarly priced alternative if not? (With cloud storage)

      • If you have an arlo set up they are going to be releasing their own version of this. Will link with existing Arlo setup and of course won't cost subscription fee unless more than 6 devices I believe.

        • do you know when they are planning on releasing this and what the product is called?

    • you need high upload speed, Telstra updated my upload to 5meg recently Ring been better since although it is still hit or miss with videos sometimes,
Sometimes you just get sound no video. or nothing..
I run 10 Hikvisions cameras via a NVR and always get access to those within a few seconds.
Ring you need to try sometimes a few times. With higher upload it might be better as said below..

Help is useless and as others said it is $4 a month to save videos.
Also probably best to get the chime pro so you can hear it inside :)

      • Where did you purchase your hikvision set up from?

  • And anything without cloud storage and an electronic door lock/knocker?

  • Note you you need decent upload speed for this to function well. NBN25 is recommended

    • There usually is no NBN25. It's NBN12 or NBN50. Well there is no NBN25 on iiNet NBN that i'm on.

NBN50 would be even better with its much faster upload speed. You don't want to ruin the internet experience for the rest of the family because the Ring Video Doorbell is uploading some big video recordings and the rest of the family can't even use the internet while it's doing it because the upstream link is being hammered with data. Like the pitiful 100kb/s upload speed on NBN12. So definitely don't use this if you run NBN12.

      • Well there was original sell of NBN25 and for those that are currently on it I suggest it as the minimum to have it function okay as a note to those currently on ADSL and NBN12 and there still many RSPs out there that still offer NBN25 so you're incorrect on that fact

        • Yeah true. I was just staying that if you are on NBN12 then don't even think about the Video Doorbell recordings as it's no better than ADSL2+ with the crippled upload bandwidth 1Mbps which you i doubt you could even upload 1080p video in real time. And that would cripple the downloads.

I agree that NBN25 would be recommended as a bare minimum (if you don't also run other uploads in the background) if you can even get on it (if you're not already an NBN customer on NBN25). NBN50 would be even better because of the 20Mbps upload bandwidth as standard. I mean you don't want to be trying to run torrents while the Video Doorbell is trying to upload heaps of 1080p video at the same time. Even on say 5Mbps upload bandwidth that may be a struggle.

And i don't think that there would be many major ISPs offering NBN25 any more to new customers.

  • Any risk of it getting stolen?

    • They will replace if it is. Not sure of required steps, maybe min police report

  • Will be a bit less with Amex offer.

  • -1
    • Did you try it?

    • 720p..yuk

  • Got it this afternoon, what a disappointment, hasn't worked once. I have top tier NBN.

    • What problems are you having? Read reviews on Amazon, there appears to be problems with motion detection.

      • Doorbird way better. Costs a bit more but can integrate to door strikes, smart locks, NAS drives, control systems. It's a 'proper' smart home device. I bought mine from www.doorbirdintercom.com.au

  • Whats up with Gerry?

    • The Amazon GST stuff
