    Awesome deal!

      Thanks doweyy!

  • +4

Nice post Op, lots of nerdy detail in the description.

    • +1

You're welcome, I'm glad you approve.

  • +2

@PJC will you weigh in on this deal?

  • +5

    Impressive comprehensive post there @MathNerd.

This has a 3 year warranty which seems odd given the Citizen Eco-Drives generally offer about 5 years. I don't think it matters much - if there's going to be problem, which is unlikely anyway, it generally presents quite early.

    • +1

      Thanks.

    • Why people negged this fair comment?

  • +4

    Great post OP. Excellent price.

    • +1

Great to have your support. Much appreciated.

  • +1

Wait waaaaat? @MathNerd poating watch deals?

    • He does do that now and again.

    • +1

Have you seen my display picture?
Also, previous watch deals here, here and here.

  • +1

Is there matching rubber strap available?

    • -1

What do you mean by matching? This watch has standard lugs so you can put whatever strap you want on it.

      • +1

it’s the gap between the end of the band and the body …. depending on the size of the watch need something to full in the gap from the end of the band to the face / body and that might be tricker with a rubber band.
i know some of my rubber ones are specific to match the diameter of the body, not just lug width.

      • -5

Just going out on a limb here, but i'd say he means the dictionary meaning of 'matching'.

        • +2

I'd go to the ACCC if I were you.

  • +1

Sorry for this question. The watch is solar powered, does it mean that i do not need battery. but it must have battery to charge in so how long will that battery last and what kind of battery is it once you need to change it.

    • +2

      This talks all about it.

If this doesn't grab you, the Citizen Eco-Drives operate on the same principle and you can usually pick one up for a little over $100 when StarBuy have a deal going.

    • +3

It has a 6 month power reserve, so from full charge, it'll last 6 months in complete darkness.
Seiko would have put a high quality battery in there that charges as more light falls on the face.
You won't need to do a battery change, at least for a long long time.

      • +3

one of my citizen solar has been going for 12+ years now …. brilliant technology.

        • +1

All my watches are Citizen Eco-Drives. This deal is just enough to take me over to Seiko land :)

        • +1

Ive got an old mid 90s citizen eco-drive that is still going strong today.

      • I disagree with their statement.
I have a le grande sport and after 2 months the battery went flat. Now my Chronograph starts at 21 second location rather that 00.

        • 2 months

Surely that's within warranty, did you take it back to the location of purchase?

        • +5

Hi there. This sounds like a chrono reset function. You can easily search for that or if easier, feel free to call us and we will be able to guide you on how to re-set the chrono.

          Thanks

        • @MathNerd: I did and they wanted me to pay for delivery of the watch to the repairer.

        • +4

@Star Jewels: thanks heaps.. Googled it and sorted it out. Much more helpful than the store I bought it from.

        • +2

          @maverickjohn: Pleasure.

    • +4

It does not require a conventional battery. There are numerous reports of solar-powered watches working for over 20 years, especially the Citizen Eco-Drive.

  • +2

If the watch actually stops, place it in direct sunlight for a few minutes to get it working, and leave it there a few hours to re-build the power reserve.

    • I did this with a lamp when I was about 10 years old with my grandfathers watch and ruined it, so, I suppose, keep it out of heat.

  • +1

Nice deal and good looking watch. But the still pics make it appear a matte gun metal which I prefer, however in the YouTube video its a bright glossy stainless steel (per the description). The two look totally different colours.

    • The StarBuy picture is a clearer version of that seen on Seiko's website. and the nameitnot immediately below the Model No. is higher than all OP's Price Comparisons.

    • think you need to find a you tube to get an exact vision, the starbuys pic is from a catalogue, and that pic might have even been photoshop'd to get rid of any reflections from shiny areas, other possibility if that the catalogue image is a graphic …

  • This is everything I need in a watch bar the looks. In the video it looks super effimante on that guys wrist, that's not a bad thing, it's just not a look I like :(

My $20 Casio Mudman AliExpress rip off just shat itself :) and my older Casio Protrek is good for kayaking, hiking etc but looks battered about.

I guess i need something a little.more "red necky" ?? I have a TAG and the battery in the POS is always going flat sonitnstays in the draw.

    • Have you the correct battery for that TAG Heuer? Perhaps you can replace it yourself.

      • I don't know, i take it to the jeweller and they do it. And then it's no longer waterproof or so they say.

It's an older Formula 1 model from memory ?

I am no watch enthuasist… I was gift from my ex for a birthday, so i feel conflicted when I wear it anyway :)

        • If the battery is always going flat it may be the wrong battery.

    • Yeah you're right, after looking at a video of the watch it does seem a little feminine. Not to my taste.

      • I think it's.more the size as well ? I am big, ugly and hairy so need something a little larger or it looks like a ladies watch.

This has everything else I want though, sapphire crystal, solar, support for 2 time zones, metal band so thanks to the folk who keep posting these deals, I will keep looking. Great to have a video to check out how it looks on the wrist.

        • I have the black and gold version and I'm hairy big and ugly to some. Anyway lol. The black and gold has always got compliments… Always

        • I would have bought it if they'd had that for 399…

    • +1

Check the battery brand, my Tissot doesn't play well with anything else other than Renata :(

  • +1

    User avatar checkouts!

  • +2

Sapphire crystal glass, seiko chronograph, eco drive at $299 is excellent price.

    • Solar powered, but not Eco-Drive. But you are right, the price is excellent.

      • +1

What is the technical difference between eco-drive and solar?

        • +1

I doubt there is a significant difference. You can't trademark 'solar'.

    • +1

      Isn't Eco-Drive a Citizen marketing term?

      e.g. 'retina display' for Apple.

  • +1

Awesome post and great price. Thanks MathNerd

  • +1

They got the Roman numeral for 4 wrong.

    • +1

Nope. It's often written that way on watches. Dunno why.

    • That was optional even for the ancient Romans.

      • I thought it was done mainly in watches to avoid confusion with Roman number 6

        • Fair enough - except this watch doesn't have a number six…

  • Thanks op
May I ask whats the difference between Calibre v172 and Calibre v192?

    thanks
